Great campground located in the Ashley National Forest in Duchesene Ut.It's near the North Fork of the Duchesene River. This is Bear Country, so prepare accordingly (we didn't see any bears though). There are primitive outhouses in the campground, and there are water spouts for water - however it is pretty dirty water, so I wouldn't say it's drinkable. Lots of aspen trees, plenty of shade and awesome views. Would definitely recommend camping here for a couple nights. - Travis May

Iron Mine Campground Introduce

For local outdoor enthusiasts seeking a genuine camping experience immersed in nature, Iron Mine Campground, situated within the expansive Ashley National Forest near Duchesne, Utah (FR 216, Duchesne, UT 84021, USA; phone: (435) 738-2482 or mobile: +1 435-738-2482), offers a compelling option within the "camping near me" category. Based on firsthand accounts from fellow campers, Iron Mine Campground provides a blend of natural beauty and rustic amenities, requiring visitors to be well-prepared for a more primitive outdoor adventure.

Located in the heart of Ashley National Forest, the campground boasts a picturesque environment characterized by abundant aspen trees, offering ample shade, and stunning mountain views. The proximity to the North Fork of the Duchesene River adds to the allure, providing a natural soundtrack and potential opportunities for riverside relaxation, although specific access points and regulations should be verified. The overall ambiance is one of natural beauty and tranquility, making it an attractive destination for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in a mountainous setting.

It is crucial for prospective visitors to be aware that Iron Mine Campground offers primitive camping facilities. According to camper reviews, the campground is equipped with primitive outhouses for restroom needs. Additionally, water spouts are available as a water source; however, it is explicitly mentioned that the water is considered "pretty dirty" and not recommended for drinking without proper treatment. Therefore, local users planning a trip to Iron Mine Campground must ensure they bring an adequate supply of potable water or have a reliable water purification system to ensure their safety and comfort.

Another significant factor highlighted by recent visitors is the presence of wildlife, specifically mentioning that the area is "Bear Country." While one reviewer noted not encountering any bears during their stay, it is imperative for all campers to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of bear encounters. This includes properly storing food in bear-resistant containers or hanging it well away from sleeping areas, avoiding leaving food or scented items unattended, and being aware of your surroundings. Familiarizing yourself with bear safety guidelines specific to Ashley National Forest is highly recommended before your trip.

A recent change in campground management or policy has also been noted by a visitor: trash dumpsters are no longer available within the campground. This means that campers are now responsible for packing out all of their trash. While this change might seem inconvenient, it is often implemented in more remote or primitive camping areas to minimize wildlife attraction and maintain the natural integrity of the environment. Local users accustomed to campgrounds with on-site trash disposal should be prepared for this "pack it out" policy and bring appropriate bags and containers for waste management.

Despite the primitive nature of the facilities and the need for self-sufficiency, the positive reviews emphasize the beauty and appeal of Iron Mine Campground. The combination of the scenic forest, mountain vistas, and the nearby river creates a compelling backdrop for a camping trip focused on enjoying the natural environment. The lack of extensive amenities often translates to a quieter and less crowded experience, which can be highly valued by those seeking a more authentic connection with nature.

For local users searching for "camping near me" who are comfortable with a more rustic experience, Iron Mine Campground in Ashley National Forest presents an excellent opportunity. The key is to be well-prepared for the conditions, including bringing your own drinking water or purification method, being mindful of wildlife safety (especially regarding bears), and adhering to the "pack it out" trash policy. The reward for this preparedness is the chance to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Utah mountains, enjoy the shade of aspen groves, and potentially relax near the North Fork of the Duchesene River.

As a platform connecting local users with camping opportunities, we encourage those who have visited Iron Mine Campground to share their recent experiences and any updated information regarding amenities, wildlife sightings, or specific regulations. This collective knowledge can be invaluable for others planning a trip to this beautiful area within Ashley National Forest. Understanding the primitive nature of the campground is essential for ensuring a safe and enjoyable visit.

In summary, Iron Mine Campground offers a beautiful and relatively secluded camping experience within Ashley National Forest near Duchesne, Utah. Its key features include stunning mountain views, ample shade from aspen trees, and proximity to the North Fork of the Duchesene River. However, it is crucial for local users to be aware that it is a primitive campground with outhouses and non-potable water sources, and that campers must pack out all their trash and take precautions for being in bear country. For those who come prepared, Iron Mine Campground promises a rewarding and authentic mountain camping adventure.
