Soapstone Basin Camping Introduce
For local residents seeking a refreshing escape into nature, Soapstone Basin Camping, located off Soapstone Basin Rd in Kamas, UT 84036, USA, presents an attractive option within the "camping near me" category. Situated a short drive from the Salt Lake City Valley, this campground offers a diverse environment and a range of activities, making it ideal for individuals, families, and groups looking for an accessible outdoor adventure. While specific contact information like a phone number is not provided, its location suggests a readily available natural retreat for the local community.
When local users search for "camping near me," key factors often include the beauty of the location, the availability of activities, and the suitability of the campsites for their needs. The provided customer reviews offer valuable insights into these aspects of Soapstone Basin Camping. One reviewer describes it as a "Beautiful location" with a variety of camping spots, catering to different preferences for shade and proximity to other campers. This suggests that local users can find a campsite that suits their individual or group needs, whether they prefer a sunny open spot or a more shaded and secluded area. The availability of "large spots for multiple family camping" is a significant feature for local families or groups of friends planning a camping trip together, offering ample space to set up and enjoy their time outdoors.
The environment of Soapstone Basin Camping is clearly a major draw, as highlighted by both reviewers. The mention of "beautiful, secluded lakes if you go up further" indicates that the area offers scenic water features and opportunities for exploration beyond the immediate campsites. The presence of "chipmunks and squirrels" suggests a natural woodland or forest setting, adding to the charm for nature lovers. One reviewer specifically mentions enjoying "being outside and hiking in the woods," confirming that the area is conducive to this popular outdoor activity. The overall impression is of a picturesque mountain environment that provides a welcome contrast to the urban landscape of the Salt Lake City Valley.
In terms of services, the reviews primarily focus on the natural environment and recreational opportunities rather than specific campground amenities. However, we can infer certain services based on the fact that it is a designated camping area. These likely include designated campsites, which may or may not be developed with features like picnic tables or fire rings (this would require further information). Access to basic facilities such as restroom areas (potentially vault toilets in a more rustic setting) and possibly potable water sources might be available, although the reviews do not explicitly confirm this. Local users planning a trip should be prepared for a more natural camping experience, potentially requiring them to be self-sufficient for certain needs.
The features of Soapstone Basin Camping are strongly emphasized in the customer feedback. The "lots of off-roading trails" are a significant draw for local off-road vehicle enthusiasts, providing an exciting way to explore the surrounding terrain. The availability of "hiking" opportunities caters to those who prefer to explore on foot and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the area. The variety of campsite options, from sunny to shady and from close to secluded, is another key feature that allows local campers to choose an environment that best suits their preferences. The presence of secluded lakes further up suggests opportunities for fishing, picnicking, or simply enjoying the tranquility of a more remote natural setting.

Soapstone Basin Camping Reviews
Beautiful location, there are spots for those who don't like a lot of shade and spots with more shade, secluded spots and spots that are closer, there are large spots for multiple family camping, lots of off-roading trails, hiking, chipmunks and squirrels, beautiful, secluded lakes if you go up further.
Sep 10, 2024 · Mariah MorrisThis truly is the best place to go when you need a break from SLC Valley. It’s a short drive up the canyon and the sites are spectacular. I enjoy being outside and hiking in the woods. The only annoying part is some people leave their garbage behind. I will never understand how people can be so disrespectful to Mother Nature. If you get the chance to escape, head up to soapstone and enjoy the sunshine ☀️
Jun 29, 2018 · Lindsay Sharp-SteffesLots of places for dry camping. Lots of atv trails and small lakes to fish.
Sep 10, 2023 · Laurie SteadmanBeautiful! Quiet, Cool and crisp right now, as the weather/season changes. The scenery is breathtaking! camp grounds are large, and not clearly marked by any means (other than a previously constructed fire pit) which is nice actually. You don’t feel constrained to any particular area. You may hear side-by-sides and other OHV’s periodically, but for the most part, you hear birds and wind rustling the leaves around you. It’s nice. The road deeper into area where the campgrounds are located is VERY rough. You need a 4WD or similar high-profile type vehicle to make it - no sedans 🤓.
