Lower Provo River Campground Introduce
For local outdoor enthusiasts searching for "camping near me" in the scenic landscapes of Utah, the Lower Provo River Campground, located within the Wasatch Cache National Forest near Kamas, offers an inviting natural retreat. Situated along the Lower Provo River, this campground provides a picturesque environment with varying campsite features to accommodate different camping preferences. Based on recent visitor reviews, potential campers can expect a generally pleasant experience with opportunities for river access and a helpful campground host.
The environment of Lower Provo River Campground is consistently described as "lovely" and characterized by the presence of "trees all around," offering shade and a sense of immersion in nature. This wooded setting creates a desirable ambiance for tent camping and provides suitable spots for hanging hammocks, as highlighted by one reviewer who found site 9 to be particularly spacious and ideal for both tents and hammocks. The natural terrain of the campground appears to offer level areas suitable for different types of camping setups, including truck bed tents, as one visitor successfully utilized site 9 for this purpose.
One of the notable features of Lower Provo River Campground is the varying sizes and access points of its campsites. Reviewers specifically mentioned site 9 as being "one of the larger ones," suggesting that some sites offer more space than others. This is valuable information for local users planning a group camping trip or those with larger tents or setups. Additionally, certain campsites, specifically sites 4, 5, and 6, boast "direct river access." This is a significant draw for those who enjoy fishing, swimming, or simply relaxing by the water's edge. The proximity to the Lower Provo River enhances the camping experience, providing opportunities for recreation and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
In terms of services, the presence of a friendly campground host named Bud is a notable positive aspect. According to a review, Bud was "very friendly" and offered the convenience of "wood for purchase at 9.00." Having a helpful host on-site can greatly improve the camping experience, providing assistance with information, site selection (if available upon arrival), and essential camping supplies like firewood. The availability of firewood for purchase directly from the host eliminates the need for campers to transport their own, adding to the convenience.
While the reviews do not explicitly detail all the amenities available at Lower Provo River Campground, the mention of individual campsites, the presence of trees, and river access at certain sites suggests a more traditional campground setting. It is reasonable to assume that basic amenities such as picnic tables and fire rings or designated fire pits are likely provided at each campsite. However, information regarding restroom facilities, water sources, or trash disposal is not included in the provided reviews. Therefore, local users planning to camp here should be prepared for potentially limited amenities and may need to bring their own water and be prepared to pack out all their trash, adhering to Leave No Trace principles.
A crucial piece of advice from a recent camper is to "Don’t forget to bring mosquito repellent." This highlights a potential environmental factor that local users should be aware of, especially during certain times of the year. Mosquitoes can be prevalent near rivers and in wooded areas, so packing adequate insect repellent is essential for a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience at Lower Provo River Campground.
The positive experience of a visitor from Switzerland, who enjoyed grilling and swimming in the river, further underscores the appeal of this location for outdoor recreation. The Lower Provo River not only adds to the scenic beauty of the campground but also provides opportunities for activities like swimming, wading, and potentially fishing (subject to local regulations and licensing). The ability to enjoy these activities directly from or near the campsite enhances the overall camping experience.
Based on the available information, Lower Provo River Campground offers a charming and naturally appealing setting for local campers. Its key features include spacious and shaded campsites (with site 9 specifically noted), direct river access from certain sites (4, 5, and 6), and a friendly, helpful host who offers firewood for sale. The presence of trees throughout the campground contributes to a pleasant and immersive natural environment. However, prospective campers should be mindful of the potential need for mosquito repellent and be prepared for potentially limited amenities beyond the individual campsites.
For local users searching for "camping near me" that combines a scenic riverside location with a welcoming atmosphere, Lower Provo River Campground in the Wasatch Cache National Forest is worth considering. The positive reviews regarding the host and the natural beauty of the area suggest a rewarding camping experience. To ensure a comfortable trip, it is advisable to bring insect repellent and be prepared for self-sufficiency regarding water and waste management, unless further information about campground amenities is obtained from official sources. The varying campsite sizes and river access options cater to different camping needs, making it a potentially ideal spot for individuals, families, and small groups looking to enjoy the outdoors near Kamas, Utah. Lower Provo River Campground Reviews
We hade site 9. Seemed to be one of the larger ones. Great spot for tents and a few hammocks. Trees all around. It was perfect for my truck bed tent as I was able to back into a level area. Site 8 was small. Site 4, 5 and 6 have direct river access. Bud was the host. He was very friendly and had a stock to wood for purchase at 9.00. Don’t forget to bring mosquito repellent

Jul 16, 2021 · Robert SaenzThis was an amazing camp site! We went hoping to find an open site for the night and found quite the gem at Lower Provo River Campground. The site hosts, Doug and Arva, were so welcoming and always there to help when we needed anything. The bathrooms were always very well kept, as was the camp site. The River was flooded so there was a ton of areas to get your feet wet and listen to the water flowing. Highly recommend this site!
Jun 12, 2022 · Allison StratmanMy fiancee and I had an awesome time camping here. Our camp host, Bud, was totally awesome! He came by twice a day and checked up on everyone. This is one of our favorite places to camp. Bud made it much more enjoyable. Thank you, Bud!
