Shingle Creek ATV Campground

Wasatch Cache National Forest, FR146, Kamas, UT 84036, USA

4.0
One of the best places we have camped. The campground is fcfs, so we lucked out on being able to find an open spot. Make sure to bring cash to claim your spot. I'm usually super weird about campground bathrooms because they're usually pretty gross but these bathrooms were surprisingly clean. The camp host was extremely friendly and stopped by for a quick friendly chat then was on his way. We stayed in spot 8 which had PLENTY of room for our camp and UTV trails were about a 10 minute drive away. Will definitely be back. - Angil

Shingle Creek ATV Campground Introduce

For local adventurers in Utah seeking "camping near me" with a focus on off-road vehicle opportunities, Shingle Creek ATV Campground, located within the Wasatch Cache National Forest near Kamas, presents a compelling option. Situated on Forest Road 146, this campground is particularly appealing to ATV enthusiasts due to its proximity to UTV trails. Based on recent visitor feedback, potential campers can expect a clean and well-maintained environment with a friendly camp host, although it operates on a first-come-first-served basis and requires cash for site payment.

The environment of Shingle Creek ATV Campground is positively described by visitors. One reviewer noted it as "one of the best places we have camped," suggesting a pleasant and enjoyable natural setting. While specific details about the landscape are not extensively provided, its location within the Wasatch Cache National Forest implies a setting characterized by trees, possibly mountainous terrain, and the natural beauty typical of this region in Utah. The mention of "plenty of room" at campsite 8 indicates that at least some sites offer ample space for setting up camp and accommodating equipment, including ATVs or UTVs.

One of the standout features of Shingle Creek ATV Campground is its direct connection to the ATV riding community. The name itself suggests its primary appeal, and a reviewer confirmed that "UTV trails were about a 10 minute drive away" from their campsite. This proximity makes it an ideal basecamp for local users looking to explore the extensive network of off-road trails in the Kamas area. The convenience of accessing these trails without a long drive from the campground is a significant advantage for ATV enthusiasts seeking a seamless camping and riding experience.

In terms of services, Shingle Creek ATV Campground receives high marks for its cleanliness. One reviewer, who typically has reservations about campground bathrooms, was "surprisingly" impressed by how clean the bathrooms were. This positive feedback regarding the cleanliness of the facilities, specifically the bathrooms, is a notable asset and contributes significantly to the overall comfort and satisfaction of campers. Additionally, the campground has a camp host who is described as "extremely friendly" and approachable, taking the time to greet campers and offer a welcoming presence.

It is important to note a couple of operational aspects of Shingle Creek ATV Campground mentioned in the reviews. Firstly, the campground operates on a "fcfs" (first-come-first-served) basis. This means that reservations are not taken, and campsites are claimed upon arrival. For local users planning a trip, especially on weekends or during peak seasons, it is advisable to arrive early to increase the chances of securing an open spot. Secondly, one reviewer explicitly stated, "Make sure to bring cash to claim your spot." This indicates that payment for the campsite is likely required in cash, so campers should come prepared with the necessary amount.

While the majority of the feedback is positive, one review raises a significant concern regarding access to the surrounding area during hunting season. The reviewer expresses frustration that "all the gates are closed" during the deer or elk hunt, which restricts access to areas they have been able to access in the past. They question the reasoning behind these closures, especially since they only last for about a month, and suggest that the management should reconsider this policy. This feedback is crucial for local users who may be planning to camp at Shingle Creek ATV Campground during the fall hunting season, as it indicates potential limitations on accessing certain areas, even though they are paying taxes and fees for camping in the canyon. It would be prudent for campers planning trips during hunting season to inquire with the Wasatch Cache National Forest or the campground management (using the provided phone number) about any gate closures or access restrictions that might be in place.

The reviews do not provide extensive details about other amenities at Shingle Creek ATV Campground. However, based on the context of a national forest campground, it is likely to offer basic amenities such as vault toilets (which are noted for cleanliness), fire rings or designated fire pits at each campsite, and possibly picnic tables. Information about water sources and trash disposal is not explicitly mentioned, so campers should be prepared to be self-sufficient in these areas and adhere to Leave No Trace principles, packing out all their waste and bringing their own water or a means to purify it.

In terms of promotional information, the positive experiences shared by the reviewers serve as a strong endorsement for Shingle Creek ATV Campground, particularly for those interested in ATV riding and a clean, well-managed camping environment. The friendly camp host adds to the welcoming atmosphere. However, the potential limitation of gate closures during hunting season is a crucial piece of information that local users should consider based on their travel dates and intended activities.

For local users searching for "camping near me" that offers excellent access to UTV trails, a clean and tidy campground, and a friendly host, Shingle Creek ATV Campground in the Wasatch Cache National Forest is a strong contender. However, it is essential to remember that it operates on a first-come-first-served basis and requires cash payment. Additionally, those planning to visit during hunting season should be aware of potential gate closures that might affect access to surrounding areas. For the most up-to-date information on campground status, amenities, and any seasonal restrictions, local users are advised to contact the provided phone number: (385) 273-1100 or +1 385-273-1100.
