For local residents in Utah seeking "camping near me" that can accommodate larger groups and offers a blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities, Pine Valley Group Campground, situated within the Wasatch Cache National Forest near Kamas, presents an excellent choice. As a group campground, it is specifically designed to host larger parties, providing a setting for family reunions, group outings, and gatherings of friends amidst the stunning Utah landscape. Based on recent customer reviews, Pine Valley offers a well-regarded camping experience with notable features such as scenic views, ample shade, and convenient access to both the Provo River and numerous hiking trails.
The environment of Pine Valley Group Campground is consistently praised for its beauty. Visitors have described the setup as "amazing" and the views as "beautiful," suggesting a location that offers picturesque scenery and a pleasant natural backdrop for camping. The presence of "lots of trees for shade" is another significant environmental advantage, particularly during the warmer months, providing relief from the sun and creating comfortable and cooler campsites. This abundance of shade also enhances the overall camping experience, allowing for more enjoyable daytime activities around the campsite.
In addition to the shaded areas, Pine Valley Group Campground also features "larger open spaces for tents and for kids to run around in." This combination of wooded and open areas caters to various needs and preferences within a group. The open spaces are ideal for setting up multiple tents and provide a safe and ample area for children to play and engage in outdoor activities. Furthermore, the mention of "lots of places under the trees shaded tents" indicates that even those preferring a tent setup can benefit from the natural shade provided by the numerous trees throughout the campground.
One of the key features of Pine Valley Group Campground is its proximity to the Provo River. Located "about 1/2 Mile from the Provo River," the campground offers relatively easy access to this renowned waterway. The distance is described as "easy enough to walk to," making it convenient for campers to enjoy the river for fishing, wading, or simply enjoying the scenic views. Importantly, the distance is also noted as "not so close you have to worry about the younger children," suggesting a safe buffer between the campsites and the river, providing peace of mind for families with young kids.
For those who enjoy exploring beyond the campsite, Pine Valley Group Campground boasts "lots of hiking trails as well." This is a significant draw for outdoor enthusiasts who want to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Wasatch Cache National Forest. The availability of multiple hiking trails offers opportunities for various skill levels and interests, allowing campers to explore the surrounding forests, enjoy scenic overlooks, and potentially encounter local wildlife.
While Pine Valley Group Campground offers numerous advantages, one potential downside mentioned by a reviewer is that "there may not be enough parking for some larger groups." This is an important consideration for local users planning a trip with a significant number of vehicles. Groups should assess their parking needs and potentially inquire with the campground management (using the provided phone number) about parking availability and any possible limitations or alternative arrangements for larger groups.
Interestingly, one review also highlights the campground's proximity to UTV rental opportunities and nearby trails suitable for off-road vehicles, stating, "Great place to camp with one of UTV Rentals, just right by some of the best trails!" This suggests that Pine Valley Group Campground serves as a convenient basecamp for those interested in exploring the backcountry via UTVs. The combination of group camping facilities and access to UTV trails makes it an attractive option for adventure-seeking groups looking to combine camping with off-roading experiences.
In terms of services, the reviews primarily focus on the natural environment and recreational access rather than specific amenities. As a group campground within a national forest, it likely offers basic facilities such as picnic tables, fire rings, and possibly vault toilets. However, information regarding water sources, trash disposal, or other developed amenities is not explicitly provided in the reviews. Therefore, local users planning to camp at Pine Valley Group Campground should be prepared for a more rustic experience and may need to bring their own water and be prepared to pack out all their waste, adhering to Leave No Trace principles.
Given its designation as a group campground, it is highly recommended that local users contact the campground directly at (435) 783-4338 or +1 435-783-4338 to inquire about reservations, group size limits, parking arrangements, and the availability of specific amenities. This direct communication will help ensure that the campground can adequately accommodate the needs of the group and provide the most up-to-date information.
In conclusion, Pine Valley Group Campground in the Wasatch Cache National Forest near Kamas, UT, offers a fantastic setting for group camping, characterized by beautiful views, ample shade, and open spaces suitable for tents and children's activities. Its convenient location near the Provo River and numerous hiking trails provides excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation. Furthermore, its proximity to UTV rentals and trails makes it appealing to off-road enthusiasts. While parking may be a consideration for very large groups, the overall positive feedback suggests a memorable camping experience. Aug 10, 2019 · Joshua BoothGreat place to camp with one of UTV Rentals, just right by some of the best trails!
Jul 24, 2024 · Uinta AdventuresGreat group camp ground. Huge fire pits, and there were tables available. Great hikes around and plenty of space for large groups. Just camped here 06/13/24 for three days with a large church group. Such a great experience.Note: bring bug spray.
Jun 18, 2024 · Cory AbeelGreat time, great campsites, great group. Everything was clean and nice we had a great visit. Only downside was a dead elk about 100 yards from camp. When the breeze blew from the south every so often we got a fragrant whiff. Great place we will be back sometime soon.
Jun 09, 2022 · Craig GrahamReally like the group sites, but it's expensive considering there are no hook ups or water.
