White Oak Introduce
For local users in the vicinity of Loves Park, Illinois, who are searching for "camping near me," White Oak Campground, located in Loves Park, IL 61111, USA, presents a camping option with both appealing features and significant drawbacks, according to recent customer reviews. With contact available at (815) 885-3311 and mobile +1 815-885-3311, it's advisable for potential campers to gather comprehensive and up-to-date information before making a reservation. This introduction aims to provide a balanced perspective on what local users might expect based on the available feedback.
Embrace the Environment: The reviews suggest that the natural environment of White Oak Campground has its positives. One camper described the "campsites" as "great," implying they are spacious and well-laid out. A notable environmental feature is the lack of excessive lighting at night, which allows for excellent "stargazing." This can be a significant draw for those who appreciate clear night skies and the beauty of the stars. Additionally, the presence of a "kids fishing pond" is mentioned as a fun activity, with children successfully catching fish, indicating a family-friendly aspect to the environment.
However, it's important to note the potential downsides related to the campground's upkeep. One reviewer mentioned that the "park itself is great," suggesting an appealing natural setting beyond the campsites. However, this positive aspect is contrasted with serious concerns about the cleanliness and maintenance of the bathroom facilities. Potential campers should weigh the attractive natural elements against the reported issues with hygiene.
The review also notes that the campsites are "mostly electric only," with one camper specifically mentioning a 30-amp service for a 50-amp rig. This is crucial information for RV owners to consider the electrical compatibility with their setup. Furthermore, another camper reported that their campsite was "extremely uneven," causing significant leveling issues for a Class A RV. This suggests that site levelness might be a concern for some campers, particularly those with larger or more sensitive RVs.
Services and Amenities: Based on the customer reviews, the primary amenities mentioned are the campsites themselves (described as "great" and "rather roomy"), electric hookups (specifically 30-amp service noted for a 50-amp rig), and bathroom facilities (which received overwhelmingly negative feedback). The presence of a "kids fishing pond" can also be considered an amenity, particularly for families with young children.
The drastically negative reviews regarding the bathrooms are a significant point of concern. One reviewer described them as "gross" and "not maintained at all," noting a lack of toilet paper and overflowing receptacles by the end of a weekend. The reviewer also stated that the outhouses were "absolutely disgusting," to the point that their children refused to use any of the campground's bathroom facilities. This raises serious questions about the hygiene and upkeep of these essential amenities.
The mention of a sign stating the bathrooms are "closed daily for cleaning" directly contradicts the reviewer's experience, who felt there was "no way it's been cleaned in weeks." This discrepancy suggests a potential disconnect between stated policy and actual practice regarding bathroom maintenance.
The information about the electric-only campsite with a 30-amp service for a 50-amp rig is vital for RV owners. Campers with higher power needs should confirm the availability and compatibility of electrical hookups for their specific equipment before booking.
The unevenness of at least one campsite, causing leveling issues for a large RV, suggests that potential campers, especially those with RVs, should inquire about the levelness of their assigned site when making a reservation.
Other common campground amenities, such as water hookups, sewer hookups, laundry facilities, or recreational areas beyond the fishing pond, are not mentioned in the provided reviews, so their availability is unknown.
Features and Highlights: One potential highlight of White Oak Campground is the spaciousness and quality of the individual campsites, as described by one reviewer. This could provide a comfortable and roomy camping experience.
The lack of excessive lighting, allowing for stargazing, is a unique feature that appeals to those who enjoy observing the night sky.
The presence of a kids' fishing pond that yields catches is a significant feature for families with children, providing a fun and engaging activity.
The location near Loves Park offers local residents a convenient "camping near me" option without extensive travel.
However, these potential highlights are significantly overshadowed by the overwhelmingly negative feedback regarding the bathroom facilities, which appear to be a major drawback of this campground based on the provided reviews.
The electric-only campsites might be a feature for some but a limitation for others seeking full hookups. The unevenness of some sites is also a notable negative feature, particularly for RV campers.

White Oak Reviews
Campsites were great, there is not a lot of lighting which lets you see the stars at night, but walking to the bathrooms was a little spooky at night. Speaking of the bathrooms...gross. They were not maintained at all. By the end of the weekend there was no toilet paper in any of the stalls, and the receptacles in the stalls were packed full of eww. There is a sign outside that says it's closed daily for cleaning but there is no way it's been cleaned in weeks. The outhouses were absolutely disgusting too. My kids didn't want to use any of the bathrooms at all, luckily we don't live far so we came home to shower and freshen up. The park itself is great, the kids fishing pond was fun too and our kids did catch some fish while we were there.
Sep 16, 2024 · Megan WilsonElectric only campsite, 30 amp for 50 amp rig. Right after Memorial Day , I had to call to get overly high class cut. Site extremely uneven... back hitch on the ground, front wheels in the air on Class A.
Jun 14, 2024 · Nana Cathy & Papa Bob BearRock Cut is a great park for camping. A diamond lost in the Illinois rough. If you can get a site in Staghorn, White Oak, or Prairie View it’s a totally different experience. Plum Grove and Hickory Hill (tent only) are closer to everything, but also more open and the sites are closer to one another. The aforementioned loops are more secluded, wooded, and less “busy.” They are just further from the lake and playground areas. I would give a 5 star, but the bathhouses are not up to snuff in my opinion. Yes it’s a state park, but still… cmon Illinois get with the program. Let’s just say the vault toilet was more appealing!!!
