What makes Willow Creek Campground so special? According to recent visitors, the property is simply beautiful. Imagine a low-key setting, embraced by the soothing presence of numerous willow trees. This creates a serene and peaceful atmosphere, perfect for unwinding and reconnecting with nature. Spanning across 20 acres of lush, park-like grassland, the campground offers ample space to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
One of the most distinctive features of Willow Creek Campground is its unique payment system. Operating on a sort of honor system, you pay what you think your stay was worth by leaving your contribution in a jar near the front door. This reflects the trust and friendly nature of the owners and fosters a sense of community among campers. Visitors consistently mention the friendly owners, with one reviewer specifically highlighting Skip, the third of five generations living on the property. His warm hospitality and willingness to provide firewood and engage in friendly conversation truly enhance the camping experience.
For those traveling with recreational vehicles, Willow Creek Campground offers five dedicated RV spots. Each spot is equipped with a fire ring and a picnic table, providing the essentials for a comfortable outdoor stay. It's important to note that these are off-grid spots, meaning there are currently no electric, water, or sewer hookups available. This makes Willow Creek Campground an ideal choice for those seeking a more rustic and self-sufficient camping experience.
Despite the lack of utility hookups, many campers consider Willow Creek Campground to be the "most beautiful off-grid spot" they have ever camped at. The natural beauty of the surroundings, coupled with the peaceful ambiance, more than compensates for the absence of traditional amenities. It’s a place where you can truly disconnect and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the Montana landscape.
Nature enthusiasts will find Willow Creek Campground particularly appealing. Lucky visitors have even had the chance to witness the majestic Trumpeter Swans nesting nearby, offering a rare and unforgettable wildlife encounter. Furthermore, the campground's location is incredibly convenient for exploring the renowned National Bison Range, which is just 11 miles away. This provides an excellent opportunity to observe bison and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
In summary, Willow Creek Campground offers a unique blend of natural beauty, friendly hospitality, and a low-key camping experience. Its stunning environment, surrounded by willow trees and lush grasslands, provides a peaceful retreat. The honor-based payment system reflects the owners' trust and welcoming attitude. While the campground offers off-grid RV spots with fire rings and picnic tables, it's the overall ambiance and proximity to attractions like the National Bison Range that truly make it special. If you're looking for an authentic Montana camping experience away from the crowds, Willow Creek Campground is a destination worth considering. It’s more than just a place to park your RV or pitch a tent; it’s an opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the genuine hospitality of a long-standing local family.

Willow Creek Campground Reviews
Called these folks as I was coming through the Mission valley and they said come on by and I am so glad I did. The property is beautiful. Very low key, surrounded by willow trees. The owner, skip, is the third of five generations living on the property and was as friendly as could be. Supplied me with all the firewood I could need and was great to chat with. Payment is on a sort of honor system, pay what you think the stay was worth in a jar by their front door. It’s worth it.

May 03, 2025 · chuck mccoySue and Skip have the most beautiful property. Camping underneath the giant willow trees was a treat. You need to be self contained but the outhouse was amazing it was dated 1941 and still had mint condition magazine’s from the 50’s. Peaceful, quiet and a very friendly pup named Sara
Aug 21, 2022 · skip nielsenI would love to be in touch with the owners to make a reservation inquiry. Tried to call few times from the Netherlands, but the phone number is not working. Can someone please provide another contact method (email)?
May 01, 2025 · Karlijn MuschBeautiful and relaxing place to set up our tent for the night while passing thru the area. Owner told us a little history of the property (passed down from his father who raised cattle) and why he wants to keep things close to nature. Fire pit and water available.
