As a listing in the 'camping near me' category, this campground aims to provide a convenient and accessible outdoor experience for local adventurers and families alike. You can reach them at (423) 663-2562 or their mobile number +1 423-663-2562 for inquiries and bookings.
Based on recent feedback from fellow campers, Winona / New River KOA Journey presents a mixed picture. One visitor in August 2024, traveling solo, highlighted the brand-new facilities, particularly praising the cleanliness of the bathrooms and expressing an intention to return with family. This positive review suggests that the campground boasts some modern and well-maintained amenities. However, this same reviewer noted a potential challenge in reaching the location due to curved roads, advising caution for larger vehicles.
In contrast, another recent experience paints a less favorable picture. This visitor, an experienced camper, expressed significant disappointment, suggesting the campground has "a far way to go before being called a KOA." Their arrival was met with a closed, seemingly unused new office, requiring a phone call for check-in. The location of their "full hook up" site was described as separate from the office area, requiring a drive past a church and over a railroad track. The site itself was characterized as an overgrown field with minimal gravel, showing signs of previous "partying" campers. Furthermore, this guest reported issues with shared water access and a lack of on-site amenities near the camping area. Restroom facilities were only available at the main office, inconveniently located for those with full hook-ups, and the playground was situated down a hill, behind the office, near a railroad track.
This same reviewer indicated that the campground seemed primarily geared towards off-road vehicle enthusiasts who enjoy "partying," suggesting it might not align with the expectations of those seeking a traditional KOA experience. They also raised concerns about safety. Despite these negative aspects, the reviewer acknowledged receiving a refund, which led to a two-star rating instead of one.
Adding to the accessibility concerns, this visitor also mentioned that the campground is located three miles off the main road via a narrow and winding route, which might cause GPS navigation concerns for some.
Considering these contrasting experiences, local users interested in 'camping near me' should approach Winona / New River KOA Journey with realistic expectations. While the campground appears to offer some new facilities and potentially a lively atmosphere for certain types of campers, there are significant concerns regarding site conditions, amenity locations, and accessibility. It's crucial for potential visitors to weigh the positive feedback about cleanliness against the negative comments regarding site quality, amenity placement, and the overall camping experience.
For local users specifically seeking a KOA experience, it's advisable to directly inquire about the specific amenities and site conditions when booking. Clarifying the location of the newer and older camping areas, the availability and accessibility of restrooms, and the proximity of amenities to your chosen campsite would be prudent. Understanding the campground's focus on off-road vehicle activities and its potential impact on the overall ambiance might also be important for those seeking a quieter or more traditional camping environment.
As a platform highlighting 'camping near me', it's important to present a balanced view. Winona / New River KOA Journey offers a location in Huntsville, Tennessee, with phone contact and a physical address. It appears to be undergoing development with some new facilities. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported challenges related to site conditions, amenity access, and the overall environment, as indicated by recent visitor feedback. The campground's apparent popularity among off-road vehicle enthusiasts might be a significant draw for some local users but a potential drawback for others.
Before making a reservation, local campers are encouraged to contact Winona / New River KOA Journey directly at the provided phone numbers to gather the most up-to-date information and address any specific concerns based on the recent reviews. Asking about the specific type of campsite available, the location of amenities relative to the site, and the nature of activities typically occurring at the campground will help ensure a more informed decision. While the "camping near me" category aims to simplify your search for local outdoor getaways, it's always wise to delve deeper and consider the experiences of fellow campers to find the best fit for your needs and preferences.
In conclusion, Winona / New River KOA Journey offers a camping option in the Huntsville, TN area. While it boasts new facilities appreciated by some, recent feedback highlights significant areas of concern regarding site quality, amenity access, and the overall camping environment. Local users searching for 'camping near me' should carefully consider these points and directly communicate with the campground to determine if it aligns with their desired camping experience.

Winona / New River KOA Journey Reviews
This is brand new KOA! Visited during Aug 2024, travel solo. Very clean place even you can see the pictures, bathroom, wow! Defiantly plan come back WITH my family. Only cons is to get there might be little challenge - roads is very curved (have to take shoulder few time when larger vehicles passed by)
Sep 07, 2024 · Nick AspidowWe've never actually left a campground before. This was the first. I feel bad about giving it a low star, but I feel they have a far way to go before being called a KOA.When we arrived, we saw a brand new large office which was closed and looked like never was used. There was a # on window to call when checking in. We called it. Lady said she had an emergency. To the left of us, was the "older" campground that had just electric, water/no sewer. We couldn't figure out where the 'newer' campground was. We had full hook up. The lady on the phone explained to us to go back where we came and turn left. So, it's not just left from the office; it's drive back down the road, turn left, pass a church, cross over a railroad track and its there. It's not even on the same property as the office. The $90+ a night site was a field of overgrown grass, very little gravel and looks like sat a few 'partiers' campers with 20 chairs in a circle. Someone else was using the water from our site. No amenities what so ever. If you wanted to use the restroom, you would need to get back in your car and drive up the street to where the office was. And then they only had one restroom for the entire campground stating well if you have full hook up you don't need to use their bathroom. Their playground didn't even sit near the camp sites. It was down the hill in back of the office near a railroad track. (I'm hoping the railroad track isn't being used.)This campground is mainly for people wanting to 4 wheel and party. It shouldn't be a KOA. The lady even told me Oh yeah, the 4 wheelers love to party. It should be marketed as such. We did not feel save. Anyone expecting to stay in a KOA campground will be disappointed. They did give us our money back and that's why I gave them 2 stars vs 1 star. I am grateful for that. Also, the drive to this campground is 3 miles off main road and is very narrow and windy. We were thinking our gps was off, but no..its definitely out there.
Apr 01, 2024 · A RellokaAmazing campground. Folks I am not sure what the previous reviews were about. But please take reviews with the grain of salt, this location was every bit as nice and easy to get in and out of. This was the wife's first time ever staying in a travel trailer at a campground. I chose this KOA because it was close to our home. But the wife actually enjoyed it. It was NOT a busy weekend. It was quiet. Now, understand this is an OHV campground. And they are several camp grounds in the area. But this campground is surrounded by all kinds of OHV trails. I can't say anything negative about this location. The staff was accommodating. The camp site was terrific. It had FHUs. And forgive me, but the Earth is not flat, so don't expect the sites to ever be. But be prepared if you're going to camp and don't blame the KOA for it's unlevel parking spots. Rain. Wear and Tear. Vehicles coming and going. All these things take a toll on the ground. Thankfully, I came prepared with enough blocks to big a small shelter....but seriously, I brought enough blocks to have the stabilizers out properly. And the few people that was with us on the property were nice and quiet too. We didn't hear them much ... which is probably what they wanted from us too. Bathhouses were amazing!! Huge!! Clean!! SOFT TOILET PAPER. I can't poop in the RV .... sorry, I'm a big guy!!! Shower was great!! I can't say anything negative about this location. And I've been to some less superior locations, and this KOA, rates up there as if it was Holiday style!! I hope to camp again, during a busy weekend, just to see if the experience would be much different. Thank you Winona KOA and staff for making my wife's first trip a lot easier!!
