Carr Point Recreation RV Park - US MILITARY INSTALLATION Introduce
Are you searching for "RV parks near me" in the Portsmouth, Rhode Island area, particularly if you are affiliated with the US Military? Consider Carr Point Recreation RV Park, located on Defense Highway, Portsmouth, RI 02871, USA. You can reach them by phone at (401) 841-2094 or +1 401-841-2094 for inquiries and reservations. It is important to note upfront that as a "US Military Installation," access to this RV park may be restricted to active duty, retired military personnel, Department of Defense civilians, and their eligible dependents. This affiliation is a primary feature and will likely dictate who can utilize this facility when searching for "RV parks near me."
The environment of Carr Point Recreation RV Park is a significant draw, with reviewers highlighting its beautiful waterfront location. One camper described the sites as being "right on the beach," offering the unique experience of oceanside RV camping. The park also boasts "lots of grass," which is noted as being "great for dogs," making it a potentially pet-friendly option for eligible users. The sunsets are reportedly beautiful, adding to the scenic appeal of the location. Furthermore, the park offers "easy access" and is described as "quiet," contributing to a relaxing camping experience.
In terms of services and features, the RV sites at Carr Point Recreation RV Park are equipped with at least electric and water hookups, as mentioned by one satisfied visitor who also noted the presence of a picnic table. This provides essential utilities for a comfortable RV stay. Additionally, a "close and clean portapotty" was available, indicating that while full sewer hookups might be limited or unavailable at all sites, basic restroom facilities are provided. One reviewer who stayed for approximately two weeks mentioned paying $30 nightly for a site with only water, explicitly stating "no electricity or sewed" at their particular site and noting that "the electricity has been non-operational for some time." This discrepancy in reported hookups suggests that there may be different types of sites available, or that the availability of certain utilities can vary or be subject to temporary issues. It is crucial to confirm the specific hookups available at your reserved site when booking.
Another key feature mentioned is the park's convenient location relative to Newport, Rhode Island. One reviewer noted an "easy bike ride to Newport," indicating that visitors can readily access the attractions, dining, and entertainment options of this popular coastal town. This proximity offers a blend of peaceful waterfront camping and easy access to a vibrant tourist destination.
However, potential drawbacks mentioned in the reviews include the presence of a fence between the campsites and the beach, which one reviewer described as a "superstructure," although they still appreciated the "shells galore." Additionally, the same reviewer who reported the lack of electricity and sewer also noted that the area is "really windy." This is an important factor to consider, as windy conditions can impact the comfort and stability of RV setups. They humorously suggested that if you have a generator and plenty of fuel, you would be "good" despite the lack of provided electricity at some sites.

- Potential Beach Access Limitations: A fence exists between the campsites and the beach, which might impact direct access or views for some sites.

Carr Point Recreation RV Park - US MILITARY INSTALLATION Reviews
Our stay was perfect! Site was clean (although the trash was full) and spacious! Easy access, quiet, beautiful sunset and a nice easy bike ride to Newport! Sites have electric, water and picnic table, close and clean portapotty too. We’ll be back!
Oct 22, 2024 · AandL WilletteI liked the area, the large lots right on the beach only to be superstructure by a fence and shells galore. Lots of grass, great for dogs. Ok I stayed 2 weeks I think or close to that paid 30 nightly for nothing but water so just be prepared no electricity or sewed, the electricity has been non- operational for some time. Bummer...But if you have a generator and tons of fuel you're good👍 Not to mention it's really windy.
Jul 19, 2023 · Gretchen LeeI am rating it for what it claims it is and what it is. This is not a famcam, there are no bathrooms, showers that type of thing, just an outhouse. It does have electricity and water as well as a picnic table. It is very basic but very quiet and has a beautiful view. We love it!
Oct 15, 2023 · Gail WagnerBoat ramp is nice and wide. Very steep and has some big hole in the ramp itself. But was able to launch our 32' pontoon boat. People still park in the NN parking area in front of the ramp.
Sep 17, 2021 · Morgan BarrettUpsides--Quiet, clean, great view. Downsides--No bathhouse (does have an outhouse), no shower, no sewer hookup, no dump station (told to go to another campground and use their's for a fee), no handicapped site, and the office is over 5 miles away. Hint to management--not all campers have toilets and showers and there are a lot of disabled people who camp.
