Duncan's Grove R.V. Park

1802 E Chestnut Ave, Duncan, OK 73533, USA

4.0
The park is located just outside of Duncan. There is pavement all the way. Signage is almost non existent. Had we not noticed the RVs in the yard we would never have know we had arrived. There is a sign but it is laying on the ground. Check in was efficient and friendly. The rules are fairly basic. The interior roads are gravel/dirt and in reasonable condition. We chose this park mostly for it’s historic significance. Duncan’s original store was located on the property. It is where the city of Duncan was founded. It is right along side Cow Creek and the actual Chisholm Trail went through the property. Cattle herders probably rested the animals right here. Our site, G2, was a pull through that was plenty long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services (30 amp and water only) were to the left side. Distancing is good for a rural park. There is NO table or fire pit. Our site was sloped front to back but was even side to side. Leveling our coach was easily managed. The park owner explained that if he were to grade the land to level the sites, history would be destroyed as the actual Chisholm Trail ran through the property. Overall the park was bare of any attempted landscaping at all. If you have a dog that is sensitive to sand burrs be aware, this place is loaded with them. There are permanent folks living here. Some of their units are very cluttered and dumpy. Everyone was very friendly and some even offered to help us get set up. That being said, they must also let their dogs run free when there are no transients around as we cleaned up a lot of dog $hit around our site. While we were here, all dogs were tied up but we could tell they weren’t happy. There is NO park included wifi or cable TV. We did find a good number of OTA channels. Satellite will not be a problem.. We did not use the washrooms or showers but we checked and found them clean. There are no restaurants or stores within easy walking distance but just a short drive away you can find food, shopping and convenience stores. We found this park to be an okay base to use while checking out the history of Duncan and it’s Chisholm Trail history as well as Lawton and Fort Sill. . We paid $25.00 per night and we feel we received poor value. Sadly, we would probably choose a different park if we were in the area again. There has been no attempt to promote the history of the land and really, that is all it has going for it. This is a poor excuse for an RV Park but probably a great place to stay as a permanent cheaply. (December 28 2023 Just reviewed my rating. It was given two stars in error.) - Darrell & Jeredene Ollenberger

Duncan's Grove R.V. Park Introduce

Are you searching for "RV parks near me" in the Duncan, Oklahoma area with a unique historical connection? Duncan's Grove R.V. Park, situated at 1802 E Chestnut Ave, Duncan, OK 73533, USA, offers a distinctive experience for RV travelers interested in the history of the region. Located just outside of Duncan, this park holds the significant distinction of being the original site of Duncan's store, marking the very spot where the city of Duncan was founded. Furthermore, the actual Chisholm Trail, a major route for cattle drives in the 19th century, ran directly through the property, with Cow Creek also bordering the site. This historical context offers a unique backdrop for your RV stay.

However, reviews from recent visitors provide a mixed perspective on the park's amenities and overall value. One reviewer noted that while the historical significance is a primary draw, the park itself has minimal landscaping and basic amenities. The signage for the park is described as almost non-existent, with a sign lying on the ground, making it potentially difficult to locate initially. Check-in, however, was reported as efficient and friendly, and the park rules were considered fairly basic. The interior roads are gravel and dirt and were in reasonable condition at the time of the review.

The individual's site, G2, was a pull-through that was adequately long for a large RV and towed vehicle. Services at the site included 30-amp electrical and water hookups, located on the left side. The spacing between sites was considered good for a rural park. Notably, the site lacked a table and a fire pit. The terrain of the site was sloped from front to back but was level side to side, making leveling manageable. The park owner explained that grading the land to level the sites would risk destroying the historical integrity of the Chisholm Trail that runs through the property, highlighting the park's commitment to preserving its history.

Despite the historical significance, the reviewer noted the absence of any significant landscaping efforts, giving the park a somewhat bare appearance. Pet owners with dogs sensitive to sand burrs should be aware that the area is reported to have a significant number of them. The park also has permanent residents, with some of their units described as cluttered. On a positive note, the reviewer found everyone to be very friendly, with some even offering assistance with setup. However, there was an observation of unsupervised dogs leaving waste around the sites when transient visitors were not present, which is a point of concern for cleanliness.

In terms of connectivity, Duncan's Grove R.V. Park does not offer park-wide Wi-Fi or cable TV. However, the reviewer was able to receive a good number of over-the-air (OTA) television channels, and satellite reception is not expected to be an issue. While the reviewer did not personally use the washrooms or showers, they checked them and found them to be clean.

The location just outside of Duncan means that restaurants and stores are not within easy walking distance, but a short drive will provide access to food, shopping, and convenience stores. The reviewer found the park to be an acceptable base for exploring the history of Duncan and the Chisholm Trail, as well as nearby attractions like Lawton and Fort Sill. However, at a rate of $25.00 per night, this visitor felt they received poor value, stating they would likely choose a different park if in the area again, primarily because of the lack of effort to promote the unique history of the land, which they felt was its primary asset. The reviewer initially gave a two-star rating but later corrected it, implying a slightly higher but still less than enthusiastic assessment.

Another reviewer offered a different perspective, acknowledging that the amenities are not "5 star" but emphasizing the quiet atmosphere and beautiful views of the moon, stars, and open cattle fields overlooking the old Chisholm Trail. This reviewer highlighted the minimalist bath/shower house and laundry facility as the only on-site amenities beyond the basic hookups. They suggest that Duncan's Grove R.V. Park is ideal for those seeking an escape from the "grind & hustle & bustle of the busy life," offering a chance to slow down and enjoy the tranquility of the rural setting, including the possibility of hearing coyotes and seeing open views of the full moon. This perspective values the peace and historical ambiance over extensive amenities.

For those searching for "RV parks near me" with a blend of history and a quiet, rural environment, Duncan's Grove R.V. Park presents a unique option. The historical significance of the site, being the birthplace of Duncan and situated along the Chisholm Trail, is a major draw. The minimalist approach to amenities and the lack of park-wide Wi-Fi might be a trade-off for the lower rates and the peaceful setting. Potential visitors should weigh the importance of historical context and a quiet environment against the desire for more comprehensive amenities and landscaping.

To make an informed decision, it is recommended to contact Duncan's Grove R.V. Park directly at (580) 560-0426 or +1 580-560-0426 to inquire about current rates, availability, specific amenities (including the amperage of electrical hookups), pet policies, and any efforts to enhance the park's historical presentation. Understanding the current condition of the interior roads and the park's policy on dog waste would also be beneficial. Given the contrasting reviews, direct communication will help potential visitors determine if the unique historical charm and quiet atmosphere of Duncan's Grove R.V. Park align with their preferences and needs when searching for "RV parks near me" in the Duncan area.
