Jackson's Hideaway RV Park

I parked my toy box trailer at Jacksons Hideaway for almost 20 years and enjoyed every bit of it. While I no longer have my trailer and toys, I still enjoy visiting the Jackson's and Ocotillo. Harlene and Bill (her son) are like family and they treat their residents that way. Bill manages the park and is a stickler for maintenance, cleanliness and following health and safety requirements. He is constantly looking for ways to improve the RV park. You won't find more generous people than the Jackson's.The park has an amazing location. There are plenty of places to walk your dog or take a hike. You won't find better weather anywhere from Halloween through about Memorial Day. If you have an off-road vehicle, you can ride to your heart's content on BLM property, just a couple blocks west. The gorgeous Anza Borrego state park is a short drive away on the "S2 Highway."Jacksons Hideaway has a huge porch with swings and chairs to hang out on and relax. There's a rec room with an ice machine (free), TV, satellite and quite a few books and DVDs that have been collected over the years. Those are all free for residents to use. They have washer and dryer's and a full-size shower and bathroom available for residents and overnighters. If you plan on bringing your trailer or motorhome out here, every space has full hook ups with a concrete pad, 50 & 30 amp hook ups, Water, and septic.Staying at "the Hideaway" is one of the best deals in the valley. You can either rent one of their nicely maintained, fully outfitted trailers, or bring your own. The pricing on the trailer varies by size. There is a fixed rent for RVs/trailers that need a space. No uplift is charged on the electricity and the rates are less than half of San Diego's electrical rates. I found that it was less expensive to keep my trailer out there on a regular basis them to pay for gas to haul it back and forth to San Diego. The park is just outside of the small town of Ocotillo, but has very easy access off of interstate 8. Just make sure to take the Frontage road (Evan Hewes Highway) as Google and some other mapping programs might send you down a dirt road, where you could get stuck.Ocotillo has recently seen a small burst of business creation. There are at least two places where you can rent off-road vehicles or go on off-road tours. There is a new full service bar that also serves pizza and other food called the "The Great Escape." There is also the "Red Feather" mini market and a café. Breakfast and lunch is served most days. The food is very good. And, of course, the legendary "Lazy Lizard" bar. On the other side of the freeway is a remodeled Chevron gas station that has a well stocked mini market and plenty of clean bathrooms. If you need something for the soul, there are services every Sunday at the "Ocotillo Bible church."If you need a place for your RV/trailer overnight, for a week, a month or longer, I think you will find out what I did, that Jacksons Hideaway if a wonderful place to stay and enjoy the desert. 👍 - steve c

Jackson's Hideaway RV Park Introduce

For local users seeking "RV parks near me" in the Ocotillo, California area, Jackson's Hideaway RV Park, located at 121 Vía De Coyote, offers a welcoming and well-maintained desert retreat. This park, praised for its friendly owners and excellent management, provides a range of amenities and a prime location for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you're looking for a short overnight stay, a week-long getaway, or a longer-term spot for your RV or trailer, Jackson's Hideaway aims to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience in the scenic Imperial Valley.

The environment surrounding Jackson's Hideaway RV Park is a major draw for many visitors. Situated just outside the small town of Ocotillo, the park boasts an "amazing location" with easy access off Interstate 8 via the Frontage Road (Evan Hewes Highway). This convenient access makes it an ideal stop for travelers. The area is characterized by its beautiful desert landscape, offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. For dog owners and hikers, there are numerous places to walk and explore. Notably, from Halloween through Memorial Day, the weather in Ocotillo is often described as exceptional, making it a prime destination during these months for those seeking mild and sunny conditions.

A significant feature of Jackson's Hideaway is its proximity to off-roading adventures. Located just a couple of blocks west of the park is Bureau of Land Management (BLM) property, where off-road vehicle enthusiasts can ride to their "heart's content." This direct access to off-roading trails makes Jackson's Hideaway a perfect basecamp for those with ATVs, UTVs, and other off-road toys. Additionally, the stunning Anza Borrego State Park, renowned for its vast desert landscapes, hiking trails, and seasonal wildflowers, is a short and scenic drive away via the "S2 Highway," offering another significant natural attraction for visitors.

Within the park itself, Jackson's Hideaway provides a range of amenities designed for comfort and convenience. A standout feature is the "huge porch with swings and chairs," offering a relaxing space for guests to unwind and socialize. The park also boasts a well-equipped recreation room, which includes a free ice machine, a TV with satellite, and a collection of books and DVDs available for all residents and overnight guests to enjoy. For added convenience, the park offers coin-operated washers and dryers ($1 per load) and a full-size shower and bathroom facility accessible to all.

For those bringing their own RVs or trailers, Jackson's Hideaway offers full hookup sites, each featuring a concrete pad, 50 & 30 amp electrical hookups, water, and septic connections. The availability of full hookups ensures a comfortable and self-sufficient stay for RV travelers. One reviewer noted that the sites are gravel and not perfectly level, which is something to consider for leveling larger RVs. However, the comprehensive utility connections are a significant advantage.

Jackson's Hideaway also offers a unique option for those who don't have their own RV: nicely maintained, fully outfitted trailers are available for rent. The pricing for these rentals varies by size, providing flexibility for different needs and budgets. For those with their own RVs or trailers requiring a space, there is a fixed rent, and notably, the park does not charge an uplift on electricity, with rates reported to be less than half of those in San Diego. This cost-effectiveness makes Jackson's Hideaway an attractive option for both short-term and long-term stays, with one reviewer finding it more economical to keep their trailer at the park year-round than to frequently haul it to and from San Diego.

The management of Jackson's Hideaway is consistently praised in the reviews. Harlene and her son Bill are described as being "like family" to the residents, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Bill, who manages the park, is noted for his dedication to maintenance, cleanliness, and adherence to health and safety requirements. He is also recognized for his proactive approach to continuously improving the RV park. The owners are described as "generous people," further contributing to the positive community feel of Jackson's Hideaway.

While Jackson's Hideaway is located just outside the small town of Ocotillo, the town itself offers a growing number of conveniences and attractions. Recent business development includes at least two places for off-road vehicle rentals and tours, catering to the park's proximity to BLM land. For dining and socializing, there's "The Great Escape," a new full-service bar serving pizza and other food, as well as the "Red Feather" mini market and café, offering breakfast and lunch. The legendary "Lazy Lizard" bar is another local establishment. Across the freeway, a remodeled Chevron gas station provides a well-stocked mini market and clean restrooms. For those seeking spiritual services, the "Ocotillo Bible church" holds services every Sunday.

One reviewer highlighted the exceptional value of staying at Jackson's Hideaway, noting that for a pull-through site with full hookups priced at $25 (at the time of the review), it offered five-star value despite being "nothing fancy." This affordability, combined with the amenities and location, makes it a compelling choice for budget-conscious travelers. The reviewer also echoed the warning about Google Maps potentially directing visitors onto an unimproved soft sand road, strongly advising to take the Frontage Road (Evan Hewes Highway) to avoid getting stuck.

In terms of "corresponding services or goods for sale," Jackson's Hideaway offers laundry facilities (washers and dryers) for a nominal fee ($1 per load). The availability of a free ice machine is another valuable service provided to guests. While the reviews don't mention a general store or extensive retail offerings within the park, the proximity to the mini market at the Red Feather café and the well-stocked mini market at the nearby Chevron station in Ocotillo ensures that basic necessities are easily accessible. The park's focus appears to be on providing well-maintained facilities and a welcoming environment rather than extensive on-site retail.
