Southside RV Park Introduce
Southside RV Park is located at 9820 S Nogales Hwy, Tucson, AZ 85756, USA, and can be contacted at (520) 741-0388 or +1 520-741-0388. For individuals searching for "RV parks near me" in the Tucson area, Southside RV Park offers a location with some nearby conveniences and basic hookups. However, recent customer reviews present a mixed picture, with positive remarks about the host and location contrasted by significant concerns regarding electrical issues and the park's management.
One reviewer who dry-camped with a generator described the host as "great" and noted the quiet atmosphere of the park. They also appreciated the availability of water, power, and sewer hookups. The proximity to a Circle K and Dollar General around the corner was seen as a convenience. While acknowledging that it is "not a 5-star resort," they found it "good enough for a cheap stay in the Tucson area." This suggests that Southside RV Park might appeal to budget-conscious travelers looking for basic amenities and a relatively quiet environment with nearby access to essential supplies.
However, another reviewer who stayed for four weeks experienced significant issues during the latter part of their stay. They initially reported a positive experience for the first two weeks. However, in the third week, after the electric company changed a meter due to "erratic readings," the park's breaker began to trip frequently during a record-breaking heat wave, specifically during the hottest part of the day. When the reviewer informed the park about this issue, they were allegedly told that the problem could not be the park's wiring and must be their "newer campers." This dismissal of a potential park infrastructure issue is concerning.
The situation escalated when the reviewer moved to a different spot, and the problem did not follow, indicating that the issue was likely site-specific within the park's electrical system. However, before the reviewer could inform the management of this finding (due to working overnight and moving after work), the host reportedly cut off their power. The reviewer woke up in a severely overheated camper (120°) and in a state of dehydration. This incident raises serious concerns about the responsiveness and problem-solving capabilities of the park management, as well as their communication with guests.
Adding to these concerns, the reviewer stated that "the owner and caretaker have zero knowledge of electricity or how the park is wired." This lack of expertise in a critical infrastructure area like electricity is a significant drawback for an RV park, as it can lead to misdiagnosis of problems, inadequate repairs, and potentially unsafe conditions for guests.
Further negative feedback was provided regarding the caretaker. While described as a "nice guy" who "rakes rocks real well," the reviewer also stated that the caretaker is "old, deaf, and ignorant." This comment, while perhaps intended to be descriptive of perceived limitations in addressing guest concerns, raises questions about the caretaker's ability to effectively manage park operations and assist guests with their needs, especially those requiring clear communication or technical understanding.
Considering these reviews, Southside RV Park presents a mixed bag for potential guests searching within the "RV parks near me" category. On the one hand, it offers a seemingly quiet environment, basic water/power/sewer hookups, and proximity to some convenient stores, potentially at an affordable price point. The initial positive experience of one reviewer and their praise for the host should also be noted. However, the serious allegations of recurring electrical issues, the management's apparent lack of electrical knowledge and initial dismissal of the problem, and the subsequent cutting off of power to a guest are significant red flags. The concerns about the caretaker's ability to effectively manage the park also warrant consideration.
For local users seeking a reliable and comfortable RV park in Tucson, the potential for electrical problems, especially during hot weather, and the reported lack of management expertise in this area are major drawbacks. While the lower price point might be attractive to some, the potential for significant inconveniences and discomfort due to infrastructure issues could outweigh the cost savings. The contrasting positive and negative experiences suggest that the quality of stay at Southside RV Park might be inconsistent or dependent on the specific site and any unforeseen issues that may arise.
In terms of promotional information, the first review highlights the "cheap stay" aspect and the convenience of nearby stores. These could be considered selling points for budget travelers prioritizing basic amenities and accessibility to supplies. However, the serious negative experiences detailed in the other review significantly temper any potential promotional appeal. The lack of reliable electrical service, especially during peak usage times in hot weather, and the perceived inadequacies of the management and caretaker in addressing such issues, are significant deterrents that overshadow any potential cost savings or locational advantages.
In conclusion, Southside RV Park in Tucson offers a location with basic amenities and nearby conveniences, potentially at a lower price. However, potential guests should be aware of the significant concerns raised in recent reviews regarding recurring electrical issues, the management's apparent lack of expertise in this critical area, and instances of poor handling of guest problems. While one reviewer had an initially positive experience, the more detailed account of electrical problems and inadequate management response should be carefully considered by anyone looking for "RV parks near me" in Tucson. It would be prudent for potential guests to inquire specifically about the stability of the electrical system and the park's procedures for addressing infrastructure issues before making a reservation at Southside RV Park.

Jul 12, 2024 · David AliffHad a great stay at this inexpensive RV park which includes hydro and septic. Larry the manager was very helpful and when he heard we had motorcycles, he was very proud to show off his 1957 Guzman that he had restored. We will be back when in Tucson.
Mar 03, 2024 · Jeff FirkserMs Chris was an absolute life saver!! She was very accommodating in a pinch and we were super thankful. The lot was quiet and tucked off away from the main road. It was clean and spacious. Only issue we had was finding the lot because the entrance was a little odd and easy to miss if you didn’t know what you were looking for. But Ms Chris was SUPER instructive, which was exactly what we needed. Good place for a quick stay while passing through Tucson. Would stay here again.
Jan 17, 2022 · Kim NunezSimple park, but wonderful host! I would like to start by saying I am not associated or affiliated with the owner Chris or the host Larry and had a wonderful stay. We stayed in Feb/Mar 2021 and have been wanting to return just to see Larry, but our travel plans have not brought us back to Tucson yet. He was an exceptional host and we've missed him since. While there is nothing fancy about this park and Chris clearly informs you there is no shower house, washer facilities, or WIFI, we would definitely stay here again. If you only like to stay in the fancy parks with all the amenities and cost, then this is not the park for you. It is Cash only which we had no issues with. We enjoyed the quaintness and you feel as if you have the park to yourself most times. Those of you working from your rig, this is a true blessing. We walked up to the store on many occasions and learned the donuts arrive fresh every evening at 7pm...some of the best donuts on our trip! Doordash also delivers here and we used it many times and they had no issues finding it..just message your driver it's behind the gas station. We were allowed to receive packages and as soon as they would arrive, Larry would immediately walk over and deliver. This occurred several times and he never once seamed annoyed or unapproachable. Larry keeps to himself mostly, but every encounter with him was more then pleasant. He's quite the artist with his woodworking skills if you just make the time to chat with him he may show you. This park does like to escort you and assist you with parking as they like to protect their hookups and make sure you are in the right spot, but once you are positioned, they leave you be unless you need them. Tucson itself can be extremely windy and trash often blows around. We saw Larry on many occasions picking up trash on the grounds. Some of the outskirts can look a bit intimidating, but we stayed for a month and never had one issue. Hookups worked as they should. The road to enter the park is connected to the gas station, just pull in like you are going to the station, then off to the left side you will see a dirt road that leads past the dumpsters. It looks like a private drive, but it is not. You will see a house on the left and Larry's trailer on the right. Stop there and Larry should come out to escort you. If not call. If we ever make our way back to Tucson, this will be our go to park. Great stop for Tombstone and Saguaro National Park. Also check out the Casino up the road. Neighbors have chickens and horses and we enjoyed watching them.
