Texan RV Park Introduce
For local users searching for "RV parks near me" in the Athens, Texas region, Texan RV Park, situated at 9024 US-175, Athens, TX 75751, USA, presents a location with a mix of appreciated features and some considerations. Based on available customer reviews, the park appears particularly well-suited for individuals attending the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) course due to its proximity. However, it also offers amenities that may appeal to a broader range of RVers, particularly those seeking a longer stay and pet-friendly facilities.
The environment at Texan RV Park boasts beautiful landscaping and includes ponds that are reportedly available for fishing, adding a touch of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The park also features a great community center, which could serve as a hub for social activities or provide a comfortable space for gatherings. The RV pads are generally described as mostly level and spacious, offering a comfortable setup for various sizes of RVs. For pet owners, the presence of two bark park areas is a significant advantage, providing dedicated spaces for dogs to exercise and play. Additionally, the park's location offers proximity to the Arboretum, where guests can walk their dogs and enjoy a beautiful park setting, although this requires a short drive as the RV park itself is noted as being somewhat isolated.
One of the most consistently praised aspects of Texan RV Park is its staff. Reviewers highlight the helpful and happy demeanor of the staff, from the front desk to the landscapers. They are described as genuine, polite, and willing to assist guests, even accommodating requests such as working with departure dates, which can be particularly beneficial for those with flexible schedules or unforeseen circumstances. This positive feedback regarding the staff suggests a well-managed park that prioritizes customer service.
However, it is important to present a balanced view based on all available feedback. One reviewer recounted a less positive personal experience, describing their seven-week stay as "the most boring" period they could never get back, noting the park's isolation with limited nearby attractions beyond a Sonic and a gas station. While acknowledging that the park is one of the "nicer" in the area, they suggest that the rates are potentially inflated due to the convenience for NRVTA students. This perspective highlights a potential trade-off between the park's amenities and its location.
Further detailing the amenities, the reviewer pointed out that unless guests are in a "fancy" pull-thru site, picnic tables, grills, or fire pits are not provided, reportedly due to liability concerns. This lack of standard campsite amenities might be a drawback for those who enjoy outdoor cooking or gathering around a fire. While the ponds are visually appealing, with one particularly noted for its ducks, others are described as dirty. The area is generally considered good for walking dogs, weather permitting, but the two small dog parks have their own issues: one is often muddy, and the other contains rocks throughout. Additionally, the lighting in the dog parks is noted as being very dark at night, which could be a safety concern for pet owners using them after dusk.
On the positive side, the laundry facilities at Texan RV Park are considered good, and a notable amenity is the inclusion of a dog washing machine, catering specifically to pet owners. However, for families traveling with children, it is important to note that there is reportedly nothing specifically geared towards children's entertainment within the park.
The park's management does appear responsive to guest needs, as evidenced by their willingness to work with a guest whose initially assigned site was too small for their RV. They also utilize text messaging for package notifications and park-related updates, primarily concerning the NRVTA school or RV park matters. Food trucks visit the park a couple of times a week, providing some on-site dining options, but planned activities beyond this seem limited. The reviewer felt that the park is not particularly geared towards spouses or partners of those attending the NRVTA school.
The surrounding area of Athens, particularly during the winter months (as per one review), is described as having basic amenities like a Walmart and a few restaurants, but not much in the way of entertainment or attractions. This reinforces the idea that the park is somewhat isolated, and guests may need to travel for a wider range of activities or dining options.
In conclusion, Texan RV Park offers several appealing features for local users seeking "RV parks near me" in the Athens, TX area, including well-maintained landscaping, fishing ponds, a community center, spacious and mostly level RV sites, dedicated bark park areas, and a friendly and helpful staff. Its proximity to the NRVTA course is a significant advantage for those attending. However, potential guests should also consider the park's somewhat isolated location, the lack of picnic tables, grills, or fire pits at non-pull-thru sites, and the reported condition of some of the ponds and dog parks. While the laundry facilities and dog wash are positives, the limited amenities for children and the general lack of planned activities might be factors for some to consider. Ultimately, Texan RV Park appears to be a convenient and well-equipped option, particularly for those associated with the NRVTA, but it may require weighing the benefits against the potential drawbacks based on individual needs and preferences. Local users are encouraged to contact Texan RV Park at (903) 677-3326 or +1 903-677-3326 to inquire further and determine if it meets their specific requirements for an RV stay in the Athens area.

Texan RV Park Reviews
This RV park was really nicely equipped for a longer stay when you are going through the NRVTA course. Two bark park areas, beautiful landscaping, ponds that you can fish from, great community center, and the pads were mostly level and spacious. But the real gem was the staff! Always helpful and happy. From the front desk staff to the landscapers, they were genuine and polite always! They were willing to work with us on our departure date which saved us a lot of time and work to pack up. The location is out there but the Arboretum is nearby where you can walk your dogs and see a beautiful park.
Apr 08, 2025 · Teresa WaltersThe most boring 7 weeks of my life I can never get back.HOWEVER, my spouse really enjoyed the school and learned a lot. In many opinion the solar class was not worth $2000. It’s pretty much isolated, nothing right close by, except for a sonic & gas station. It’s one of the “nicer” rv parks in the area but that’s about it. The over priced rates you pay are really just for the convenience of the school being there. The sites are good sized but unless you’re in a “fancy”pull thru, there are no picnic tables (I was told a liability issue?), grills or fire pits. The ponds are pretty to look at, at least the one with the ducks is, the others are dirty with stuff in them. Good area to walk dogs, as long as it doesn’t rain. There are 2 small dog parks but one is pretty muddy all the time & the other has rocks all thru the middle of it. They need to fix their lighting in them, they’re very dark at night. The laundry is good, we liked they had a dog washing machine. There is NOTHING for children if you plan to bring them. We appreciated they worked with us when initially they put us in a site that was too small for our 44ft toy hauler. There internet is pretty useless & they use tengo so don’t plan on talking to them about it, they’ll just tell you to call them. They will text you if you have a package & also text you about what’s going on but it’s mostly school or rv park related. They have food trucks come a couple times a week, other than that there aren’t many planned activities. It’s not geared for spouses or partners by any means. We were there in the winter so not much going on in the little towns near by but honestly, don’t think there is period. You have your Walmart & basic stores & a few restaurants. It was a long 7 weeks and in our opinion they need to use some of the money they make from the school and the rv park to make it much, much better. All in all my spouse liked the school and teachers very much. Most of the staff were very friendly. The rv park definitely needs a lot of work and really need to amp up their amenities to justify the cost.
Mar 03, 2025 · R SThis is the most beautiful RV park with its lakes and prolific birdlife. We absolutely loved waking up every morning to the lake right outside our door. Our only complaint with the locale is the horrific road noise.Concerns were how long it took to get power back on after it was taken out by the storm ie. 12 hours! And that we had no internet for days. I don't know if this is normal for Texas but it's not like the campground is situated anywhere remote. We really appreciated being moved to a cabin that suited our needs far better, thank you for a great week and very pleasant stay!!
Mar 08, 2025 · Jen HeckRV spot had enough room for our 33-foot 5th wheel, truck, and following car. Park has resident ducks and geese. Nice park to walk around the ponds. Busy mornings because of NRVTA students. 🎓 Laundry is clean and low priced. Food trucks throughout the week. One can hear the highway traffic but it's not horrible.
Dec 11, 2024 · Jaime VHWe loved this RV park. So convenient for the NRVTA. The staff were wonderful! We stayed three weeks, and it felt like home.
