The Place RV Park Introduce
For local RV travelers seeking "rv parks near me" in the Sloan, Iowa area, The Place RV Park, located at 1866 IA-141, Sloan, IA 51055, offers a budget-conscious option, particularly for short overnight stays. The park can be contacted at (402) 237-2170 or +1 402-237-2170. Based on the available customer reviews, The Place RV Park presents a mixed experience, with positive remarks about affordability and the on-site restaurant, but also significant drawbacks concerning site conditions and amenities, especially for longer stays.
One reviewer found The Place RV Park to be "okay for a night," indicating its suitability for short stopovers. They noted that the sites were "small but sufficient" for a brief stay. However, a significant inconvenience was mentioned regarding the sewer hookup, which was in a "hard spot to reach," requiring the use of two hoses. This suggests potential challenges with the layout or placement of utility connections at some sites within the park, which could be a factor for RVers with specific equipment or longer rigs.
On a positive note, this reviewer praised the lady who runs the park as "very nice" and highlighted the very affordable nightly rate of $35. This suggests that the management is friendly and that the park offers a competitively priced option for those needing a quick overnight stop in the area.
The on-site restaurant received mixed but generally positive feedback. One reviewer described it as "just a little dive" but noted that while the food was "not homemade," it was "good and cheap." The service at the restaurant was also described as "nice." This amenity could be a convenient option for travelers who prefer not to cook or who are looking for an affordable meal during their stay.
The same reviewer who stayed for a night indicated a willingness to stay again for a similar short duration, reinforcing the idea that The Place RV Park might be best suited for transient travelers looking for a budget-friendly overnight stop.
However, a second reviewer provided a much more critical perspective, particularly regarding the value proposition for longer stays. They described The Place RV Park as the "most poorly priced RV park I have ever dealt with," especially considering the lack of a shower house and the gravel sites. The absence of a shower house is a significant drawback for many RVers, as it necessitates relying solely on their RV's onboard facilities. The gravel sites were also mentioned in the context of difficult conditions when it rains, specifically "an awful mess pulling out of there." This suggests potential drainage issues and muddy conditions during wet weather, which could make maneuvering and general site upkeep challenging.
This reviewer further elaborated on the pricing, stating that at $625 per month, they could find "the same conditions living somewhere else for a lot cheaper." This strongly suggests that the monthly rates at The Place RV Park are perceived as excessive given the limited amenities and site conditions. The reviewer also offered a broader negative opinion about the general area, describing it as "a poor place to live in" and suggesting that there are "so much more to the country other than that small town in Iowa." While this is a subjective opinion about the surrounding area, it might influence the overall appeal of the RV park for those considering an extended stay.
Despite the negative comments about pricing and site conditions, this reviewer did acknowledge that the "owners are nice enough" and reiterated the positive aspect of the on-site "nice restaurant and bar." This again highlights the friendly management and the convenience of having a dining and social option within the park.
Based on these reviews, the environment of The Place RV Park appears to be basic, with small gravel sites and potential drainage issues during rain. While there might be some grassy areas (implied by the sewer hose issue), the overall impression is of a no-frills setup. The proximity to Iowa Highway 141 offers convenience for travelers but might also contribute to noise or a less secluded atmosphere, although this is not explicitly mentioned.
In terms of services and features, the park offers water, sewer, and electrical hookups (implied by the sewer hose and electricity deposit). However, a significant lack is the absence of a shower house. The presence of an on-site restaurant and bar is a notable feature, providing a convenient dining option for guests. Wi-Fi availability, laundry facilities, recreational areas, and pet policies are not mentioned in the reviews, suggesting they might not be available or were not significant enough to be commented upon.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. The nightly rate of $35 was mentioned by one reviewer, highlighting its affordability for a short stay. However, the monthly rate of $625 was cited by another as being overpriced for the conditions offered. This discrepancy suggests that the value proposition of The Place RV Park might vary significantly depending on the duration of the stay.
For local users considering The Place RV Park based on its location in Sloan, IA, the key takeaways from the available reviews are:
- Affordable for overnight stays at $35 per night.
- Friendly management.
- Convenient on-site restaurant and bar with good, cheap food and nice service.
- Small gravel sites with potential drainage issues in the rain.
- Sewer hookups may be in inconvenient locations at some sites.
- No shower house is mentioned, which is a significant drawback for many RVers.
- Monthly rates ($625) are perceived as high for the limited amenities and site conditions.
Given these points, The Place RV Park might be a suitable option for local RV travelers needing a budget-friendly overnight stop and who do not require shower facilities or are comfortable with basic site conditions. However, for longer stays, the perceived high monthly rate relative to the lack of amenities and the potential for muddy conditions could make it a less attractive option compared to other "rv parks near me" in the region. Prospective long-term residents should carefully weigh the cost against the provided services and the overall environment.
Local users are encouraged to contact The Place RV Park directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about current rates, site availability, specific amenities, and their policies regarding showers and site maintenance, especially during wet weather. It would also be beneficial to ask about the layout of the sewer hookups on different sites to avoid potential inconveniences. Visiting the park in person, if feasible, could provide a firsthand assessment of the site conditions and overall environment before committing to a stay, especially a longer one.

Jun 23, 2019 · Jordon HargroveMost poorly priced RV park I have ever dealt with doesnt even have a shower house and gravel sites. Its an awful mess pulling out of there when its raining. For 625 a month I could get the same conditions living somewhere else for alot cheaper. Owners are nice enough but that area in general is a poor place to live in. So much more to the country other than that small town in Iowa. Nice restaurant and bar.
Nov 25, 2022 · J DOrdered the fish and chips everything was okay but clearly frozen. Decent price at $6.50 got a good amount of fries and 3 cod planks. Overall decent meal waitress was nice
Jan 06, 2017 · joe mcalexanderFood was top notch. The RV park wasn't that great . Sites are small. Trees need a good trimming. I wouldn't suggest anything bigger than a 36' long as it was difficult getting my 38' 5th wheel though there.
Jun 25, 2019 · Jay HGood and friendly service, been here for months , good average spots , very easy accessible . I was able to get my 42 foot toy hauler around with ease . Out in the country , The restaurant has good food , close to gas station . Good washer and driers at main building . Will stay again when passing threw .
