Jolly Park and Campground, located at 1501 Race Track Rd, Alexandria, KY 41001, USA, offers a highly regarded destination. With glowing reviews praising its scenic lake views, exceptionally clean facilities, and a variety of recreational activities, A. J. Jolly Park and Campground provides an excellent option for families, individuals, and outdoor enthusiasts looking for a quality camping getaway. The positive feedback from both first-time visitors and those with fond childhood memories of the park underscores its enduring appeal and commitment to providing a fantastic camping experience.
The environment at A. J. Jolly Park and Campground is frequently lauded for its beauty and natural charm. One reviewer who stayed at site 53 specifically mentioned a "great view of the lake" from their elevated location, along with sightings of deer and birds, indicating a picturesque and wildlife-rich setting. The landscape is described as "very well groomed," suggesting that the park takes pride in maintaining an attractive and pleasant environment for its visitors. The presence of a lake not only enhances the scenic beauty but also provides opportunities for various water-based activities.
A standout feature consistently praised by campers is the exceptional cleanliness of the bathroom facilities. One reviewer stated that the bathrooms were "the cleanest we have ever seen," setting a high standard for campground amenities. Additionally, the layout of the bathrooms, with the toilet and shower combined in one private room, is highly appreciated for offering "complete privacy" and a sense of security that is often lacking in more open-style campground bathhouses. This thoughtful design contributes significantly to the comfort and convenience of campers during their stay.
A. J. Jolly Park and Campground offers a variety of campsites to cater to different preferences. One detailed review provides valuable insights into specific site characteristics. Campsites in the 20-28 range, particularly site #24 and nearby #23, are highlighted as being among the "absolute BEST" in the park. These sites are noted for their favorable location, proximity to a playground, and a canopy of trees providing shade and some protection from rain. While site #24 has a slight slope, the reviewer found it comfortable for sleeping. Site #23 is mentioned for its sunrise views, while #24 offers sunset vistas. This level of detail from a fellow camper is invaluable for local users trying to choose the perfect spot.
For those interested in fishing, A. J. Jolly Park and Campground offers opportunities, although one reviewer noted that fishing was "a bit rocky" at their specific site. However, their boys and girlfriends did manage to catch catfish (around 8 lbs) and bluegill at the same location, indicating that the lake is indeed stocked with fish. The presence of a fishing pier, near campsite #17, provides another accessible spot for anglers. It's worth noting that while being close to the pier is convenient for fishing, it may come at the cost of privacy due to public access.
In terms of amenities, A. J. Jolly Park and Campground appears well-equipped. The presence of bathhouses, with the highly praised private toilet and shower rooms, ensures a comfortable and secure experience. The campground also features playgrounds, making it a family-friendly destination. A frisbee golf course is available for those looking for a fun outdoor activity, although it is mostly in the sun. Kayaking is also a popular activity on the lake, with many people observed enjoying it. The availability of a shelter for rent, such as the Hummingbird shelter near the entrance and playgrounds, provides a convenient space for group gatherings like graduation parties. These shelters are noted for being clean and near the water or easily accessible to it.
The reviewer also provided helpful information regarding campsite selection based on location relative to the bathhouse and exposure. Sites further up in number (past #30) are described as being more exposed and farther from the bathhouse, potentially involving steeper paths. Sites 15-17 have the convenience of on-site portapotties, with #17 being located at the fishing pier. This detailed, firsthand account allows local users to consider their priorities – such as proximity to amenities, sun exposure, and privacy – when making their campsite reservations.

A. J. Jolly Park and Campground Reviews
We absolutely love this campground. We chose site 53, which sits high up and allows a great view of the lake. We saw deer and birds. Very well groomed landscape. The bathrooms were the cleanest we have ever seen. I like that they have the toilet and shower together in one room. Complete privacy!! I wish we lived closer.
Sep 22, 2024 · Kelly JohnsonBest camping trip!!! I used to camp and fish at AJ Jolly back in the 80's, when I was a kid. So, naturally, I wanted to give my own kids a great camping experience. The last trip we took was awful (Caesar's Creek) so this time I did my homework and hoped AJ was still as awesome as I remember. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!Making reservations online can be confusing, you don't SEE what you're booking. Well I'm here to give you a bit of info. First off, the absolute BEST spot in this entire park is campsite #24. The whole clump (20-28) is great honestly, and has a playground in it, but that corner is amazing. The ground is a bit sloped, but me being 45 I slept on that ground for 3 nights and never woke up sore. It rained briefly, but the canopy of trees kept us pretty dry. I'm telling you, #24💕 (or 23, that's right across and about the same. 23 gets the sunrises, 24 gets the sunsets) The fishing was a bit rocky at our site, but my boys and their girlfriends did catch catfish (probably about 8 lbs) and bluegill at our site. This area is about a 4 minute walk to the bath house, and the bath house was always clean. Shower is located in each individual bathroom so it's really nice to be more secure than you see in horror movies. You know what I mean... The open area where anybody can go to the bathroom while you're showering so you never know who's lurking in there. Anyway, depending on the coverage and area you're looking for I'll tell you, out of the 70 some odd sites, the further up the number, the more exposed and farther from the bath house. Sites 15-17 have portapotties right on site. #17 is located at the fishing pier, which anybody can use, so it's cool to be close to the pier, but not if you want privacy. I drove through the whole place and I'll be honest, I didn't pay a great deal of attention to any site past #30 because they were not what I was looking for. Whether the path be too steep to drive up and down, the area be too open and sunny, or the space be too cramped for my party. I cannot say anything negative about those sites, we are not all looking for the same experience.I also rented a shelter (hummingbird, right at the entrance by the 2 playgrounds) for a graduation party and all the shelters I looked at were clean and near the water or close to it, so keep that in mind if you have littles. My boys definitely enjoyed the Frisbee golf course many times ( mostly in the sun) and there were tons of people enjoying the kayaks. I will ABSOLUTELY be going back many many times to enjoy this campground.
Jul 10, 2024 · Liv McCauleyOur site was absolutely beautiful. It was a great quiet campground during the week, but on the weekend there was a lot of very loud music late into the night. We loved the disc golf and the playgrounds. My only complaint in that regard is there is no where for the kids to walk to and hang out. You have to drive to everything, which requires us not enjoying our down time as parents.Check out my photos to see how beautiful our spot was!
Oct 29, 2023 · K DOriginally booked a site on 35, when got there had a big slope to level out on. Asked if had anything available, ended up getting a little better site, but also had a good slope. The next morning talked with Billy in the office, she did some rearranging and set us up on site7 across lake by the horse stall side, flat ground, alot of space. Turned out to be great. Playground right outside the camp spot. Fire put right off site. Nice view of the lake. Clean bathrooms, no garbage around. Was worth the trip. Thank you Billy Sue. Turned our trip out for the better.
Jul 07, 2024 · Jamie HowardBeautiful park, but rv spaces are mostly uneven, some more steep than others, which would make it difficult to level properly. Access to water is sporadic to each site, so inconvenient. Rarely did we see spots with their own dumping ability, making it inconvenient by needing to move each time you need to dump. Yet the beauty of the park may be worth the trouble.
