Aliklik Campground Introduce
Aliklik Campground, situated on Hungry Valley Rd, California 93023, USA, is a dedicated campground located within the expansive Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA). For individuals and families searching "Camping Near Me" with a strong inclination towards off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation, Aliklik Campground is a premier destination. It provides a structured yet adventurous camping experience, offering convenient access to over 130 miles of diverse trails for motorcycles, ATVs, dune buggies, and 4x4 vehicles, making it a hub for off-road enthusiasts of all skill levels.
The environment at Aliklik Campground is intrinsically linked to the surrounding Hungry Valley SVRA, a vast landscape of approximately 19,000 acres characterized by rolling hills, canyons, and open spaces. The terrain offers a mix of easy, flat trails suitable for beginners and challenging, steep routes for experienced riders. Within the SVRA, and accessible from Aliklik, are specialized areas such as a "Four-Wheel Drive Area" with eight man-made features to replicate backcountry conditions, a "Mini-Track" for beginners on smaller motorcycles and ATVs (90cc or smaller), and a one-mile "Motorcycle Track" for more experienced riders (100cc or larger). This diversity of terrain ensures a dynamic and engaging riding experience for all visitors.
Aliklik Campground itself provides a more developed camping environment compared to primitive sites. It features "trees for shade" and "shade ramadas" at campsites, offering relief from the California sun, which is particularly beneficial during warmer months. The sites are generally "flat, level and generally accessible," making it easy to set up camp. While primarily an OHV park, the natural surroundings still offer scenic views of the mountains. Temperatures can range from 30°F in winter to 90°F in summer, with spring and fall being the most popular times to visit due to more moderate weather. The presence of rangers ensures an orderly and safe environment.
The park's location, accessible via the Gorman exit from I-5, makes it a convenient "fun place" for a getaway from both Los Angeles (approximately 1 hour 12 minutes drive) and Bakersfield (approximately 1 hour 2 minutes drive).
Aliklik Campground is designed to support a comfortable and safe OHV camping experience. While it is a semi-developed campground, it provides essential amenities that are highly valued by campers:
- Clean Restrooms: A standout feature, specifically mentioned by reviewers as being "clean restrooms" and even having "little air fresheners in the bathrooms." This attention to cleanliness significantly enhances the camping experience, with one reviewer stating, "the bathroom can make or break a whole trip so thank you to all that work there." These are typically vault toilets.
- Cell Phone Service: A crucial amenity in a more remote outdoor setting, allowing campers to stay connected.
- Campsite Amenities: Each of the 150 campsites features a "shade ramada, picnic table, and a fire pit." This provides a comfortable individual space for campers to set up, cook, and relax. Trash containers are also provided for refuse disposal.
- Practice Tracks: Adjacent to Aliklik Campground, a 10-acre 4x4 practice area is available for off-road enthusiasts to test their vehicles. Nearby, a mini-track and motorcycle track further enhance the riding opportunities.
- Ranger Supervision: A significant feature highlighted by reviews is the presence of "rangers supervised." This ensures a safer environment, with enforcement of rules like "Don't drink and drive rangers are strict" and "No riding ATV without helmet." This oversight contributes to a "fun place" where "folks tend to really push the envelope with safety and fun," but are kept in check.
- Water: It is important to note that "neither drinking nor non-potable water is available anywhere within the recreation area - water will need to be in containers and brought into the park." Campers must be self-sufficient regarding water supply.
- Fire Rings and Regulations: Fires are allowed only in provided fire rings, and open ground fires are prohibited. Campers must purchase firewood locally, as collection within the park is not allowed. It is essential to check current fire restrictions, which can vary seasonally and impact the use of fire pits.
Reservations are required for campsites and can be made one day to four months in advance via ReserveCalifornia.com or by phone (661-248-7007). Sites are limited to six people, three tents, and two vehicles (or one tent and one RV), ensuring reasonable capacity per site. Quiet hours are observed from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., with generator hours from 7-9 a.m. and 6-8 p.m.
For local users searching "Camping Near Me," Aliklik Campground is promoted as the ultimate destination for a safe, fun, and well-managed off-road camping experience in Southern California. Its appeal is multi-faceted:
- Premier OHV Destination: The vast network of trails and dedicated practice areas, combined with direct access from the campground, makes it ideal for dirt bikers, ATV, UTV, and 4x4 enthusiasts.
- Clean & Functional Facilities: The consistently praised clean restrooms are a significant draw, ensuring comfort even in a rugged setting.
- Safety & Supervision: The active presence of park rangers contributes to a secure environment, enforcing rules that promote responsible recreation. This is a critical factor for families and those concerned about safety in an OHV park.
- Convenient Location: Its proximity to I-5 makes it an accessible weekend getaway from major urban centers like Los Angeles and Bakersfield.
- Shade & Basic Amenities: Picnic tables, fire pits, and shade ramadas at each site enhance the comfort of a dry camping experience.
The positive reviews, such as "Love this place" and "Fun place," strongly endorse the experience. The emphasis on safety, such as mandatory helmets for ATVs and strict rules against drinking and driving, underscores the park's commitment to responsible recreation. This makes it an attractive choice for families and organized groups who prioritize safety.
While there are no specific "goods for sale" mentioned directly at the campground, the "service" provided is the access to a meticulously managed OHV park. Campers will need to bring all their own supplies, including water, food, and firewood (purchased locally). The nearby town of Gorman can provide essential supplies and fuel.
In conclusion, Aliklik Campground offers a well-structured and highly regarded camping experience within the Hungry Valley SVRA. It effectively combines the thrill of off-road adventure with the comfort of clean, semi-developed facilities and a strong emphasis on safety. For local users seeking "Camping Near Me" that caters specifically to the OHV community, Aliklik Campground stands out as an excellent choice for a memorable and secure outdoor excursion.

Sep 11, 2018 · jahaziel avitiaFun place.. and Im glad its rangers supervised.. As folks tend to really push the envelope with safety and fun ..Remember... must play nice with others
Jan 18, 2019 · Lea LeaNice area to come use ur atvs, razors etc this week, we came a little more busy than others it was Halloween week. it was just me and my husband. we got to explore more than we normally do when we come with our kiddos. There's a lot of trails. It's pretty awesome that we got our season pass, so we will be coming more often. But people do need to clean up after themselves. Don't ruin it for others. Also, be mindful of others, and when kids are present, follow rules . There's always that one crowd or individual that doesn't care about others' safety.. I'm glad that the rangers here are very strict and check on you very often. Also, no helmet, no riding, and you need flags on your quads, rzrs.
Sep 05, 2023 · Magaly L.It was a great place to ride. There needs to be a patrol out at night. People just come in and ride all night. They don't know there is quiet time. Rude 6 individuals on Saturday night until 1:30 Sunday morning riding through camp tearing up the place and left their trash.
Aug 25, 2019 · Denise SenenfelderGreat place to camp and enjoy off-roading! One of the few spots available with cellular service FYI! I'm with Sprint service BTW... Trailer dumping and filling for free available at rest stop one exit up from Frazier Park exit. Dump station is all the way around the back of rest stop towards the exit of the area on left side with hose hookups and wash down. Must go North to next exit and turn around if heading back to Gorman OHV area. But well worth it.
