Antelope Island Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Midvale, Utah area, seeking a unique outdoor experience with access to nature and wildlife? Antelope Island Campground, located at 6887 S 1050 E, Midvale, UT 84047, USA, offers a distinctive camping environment on the shores of the Great Salt Lake. Based on recent reviews, this campground provides a blend of natural beauty and essential amenities, although visitors should be prepared for certain environmental factors.
The environment of Antelope Island Campground is characterized by its proximity to the Great Salt Lake and the unique landscape of Antelope Island State Park. Campers can enjoy being within "fairly walking distance to the lake shore," offering opportunities for scenic walks, birdwatching, and enjoying the expansive views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The island is also home to free-roaming bison, which many visitors find to be a "very cool" and memorable sight. These majestic animals can often be seen in the distance, adding a wild and natural element to the camping experience. However, it's crucial for visitors to maintain a safe distance and respect the wildlife.
In terms of services and features, Antelope Island Campground appears to offer well-maintained facilities. One reviewer noted "a nice paved way for parking," which is a significant convenience, especially for those with multiple vehicles or larger trailers. The campground provides designated camping spots suitable for various setups, as one visitor mentioned accommodating "2 vehicles, and a 6 person trailer" comfortably. Communal amenities include a "pavilion," which could serve as a gathering space or provide shelter from the elements. Additionally, each campsite seems to be equipped with a "campfire area with a pull down grill for the fire pit," allowing campers to enjoy traditional campfires and outdoor cooking.
However, the reviews also highlight some environmental factors that campers should be aware of. Both reviewers mentioned the presence of insects, specifically "lots of flies." It is strongly recommended to "not forget your bug spray this time of year," as insects can be prevalent, especially near a large body of water. One reviewer suggested that "with bug spray or a net shouldn't be too big of an issue," indicating that while flies are common, they are manageable with the right precautions. Campers should come prepared with insect repellent and potentially netting to ensure a comfortable stay.
Another environmental factor mentioned was the presence of smoke from a nearby fire during one reviewer's visit. They noted that it was "really smokey," which obscured the full view of the surroundings. While this is an external factor beyond the campground's control, it's a reminder that air quality can vary depending on regional conditions, and visitors might want to check local fire conditions before their trip, especially during dry seasons.
A practical piece of information for visitors is that "all buildings (concession, visitors center etc) closed at 5pm." This means that if campers need supplies, information, or access to visitor services, they should plan to arrive early in the day. The early closing time suggests that the campground operates with limited services outside of standard daytime hours, so self-sufficiency and early planning are advisable.
Considering the positive aspects, Antelope Island Campground offers a unique camping experience with its lakeside location, paved parking, pavilion, campfire facilities, and the opportunity to view free-roaming bison. The negative aspects primarily revolve around the presence of insects, particularly flies, and the potential for external factors like smoke to impact the experience. Additionally, the early closing time of facilities requires campers to plan accordingly.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. To learn about current camping rates, availability, reservation procedures, or any special offers, interested individuals should contact Antelope Island Campground directly at (800) 322-3770 or +1 800-322-3770. It would also be beneficial to inquire about any specific guidelines or recommendations for dealing with insects and to get more information about the services and amenities available beyond what is mentioned in the reviews.
In conclusion, Antelope Island Campground presents a compelling option for "camping near me" for those seeking a natural setting with wildlife viewing opportunities near the Great Salt Lake. The paved parking, pavilion, and campfire areas provide essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience. However, potential visitors must be prepared for the presence of flies and be aware of the early closing time for park facilities. Despite these considerations, the chance to camp in a unique environment with free-roaming bison makes Antelope Island Campground a destination worth considering for your next outdoor adventure. Remember to pack your bug spray and plan to arrive early to make the most of the available services.

Antelope Island Campground Reviews
Do not forget your bug spray this time of year. Though a nice campground, fairly walking distance to the lake shore. And a nice paved way for parking, we had 2 vehicles, and a 6 person trailer. Nice spot. Has a pavilion, and a campfire area with a pull down grill for the fire pit.
Jun 01, 2019 · Austin MartinWe will definitely return again! Beware of lots of flies, but with bug spray or a net shouldn't be too big of an issue. Very awesome site! It was really smokey when we were there from a nearby fire, so we look forward to seeing the full view at another time, but still thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Bison roamed free everywhere in the distance and was very cool to see. All buildings (concession, visitors center etc) closed at 5pm so come early if you need anything
Aug 30, 2018 · Dawn-Marie HowesSimple pull up camping. Gravel washboard road. It was really windy at night and the dusty gravel was not fun setting up the RV legs. Dawn was spectacular. Lots of birds singing and peaceful.
Jul 04, 2022 · Kevin MapesAbsolutely stunning, scenic, peaceful... the pictures will tell a good story, in person it's even more stunning. From dusk to dawn.
Jun 21, 2018 · Jennifer BagleyVery nice out here indeed. We arrived late so we missed getting off the RV to watch the sunset. But as a consolation, the moon was full and bright and the moon rise was amazing! Flies and other insects were present but not as bad as we expected --not a big deal IMHO.
