Purple Point Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" and seeking a picturesque lakeside experience in Washington State, Purple Point Campground, located in Stehekin (address: Stehekin, WA 98852, USA), offers an accessible and scenic camping destination on the shores of Lake Chelan. Situated in a unique and relatively remote area accessible primarily by ferry, private boat, or floatplane, Purple Point Campground provides a blend of natural beauty and essential amenities for a comfortable camping adventure. You can reach the campground by phone at (360) 854-7200 or +1 360-854-7200 for inquiries and reservations.
The environment surrounding Purple Point Campground is truly captivating. Nestled along the northern section of the stunning Lake Chelan, campers are treated to breathtaking views of the pristine lake waters and the majestic Cascade Mountains in the backdrop, including glimpses of Cascade Pass to the north from certain campsites like site 1. The campground's location directly across the street from Purple Point itself provides immediate access to the lakeshore, complete with a dock and ramps for easy exploration and enjoyment of the waterfront. The presence of mature trees and natural vegetation around the campsites contributes to a pleasant and shaded camping environment. The air is likely fresh and clean, typical of a mountain and lakeside setting, offering a refreshing escape from urban life.
Based on customer reviews, Purple Point Campground offers several notable services and features that enhance the camping experience. A significant positive aspect highlighted is the accessibility of a "clean washroom with a flush toilet," a convenience often appreciated by campers seeking a step up from more primitive facilities. For those concerned about wildlife, particularly bears, the campground provides a practical and essential feature: "a bear safe food storage unit for every 2 campsites." This ensures the safety of campers and helps protect local wildlife by preventing access to human food. Each campsite is also equipped with a picnic bench, providing a dedicated space for meals and gatherings, and a fire pit, although its use may be subject to fire bans depending on the time of year and local conditions, as noted in one review.
One specific campsite, site 1, is mentioned for its advantageous location, offering "2 tent spots" and lovely views of Cascade Pass and the northern part of Lake Chelan. This suggests that some sites may be larger or offer particularly scenic vistas, making them highly desirable. However, the review also points out that site 1, specifically the picnic bench area, is somewhat visible from the nearby road. While the reviewer and their group did not find this to be a major issue, often exchanging greetings with passersby, those seeking more privacy might want to consider bringing a tarp to create a screen, as suggested by a friend of the reviewer. This highlights the importance of considering site-specific characteristics when making reservations.
A major feature of Purple Point Campground is its immediate proximity to Lake Chelan and Purple Point itself. Campers can easily cross the street to access a dock and ramps, providing opportunities for walking along the water, enjoying the phenomenal views, and engaging in water-based activities. Swimming in the lake is possible, although the water is noted to be cold. The shallow depth near the shoreline makes it relatively safe for wading and swimming close to the shore. A unique natural feature is a log in the water near the shoreline, offering a spot to swim to or a place to sunbathe. The accessibility to the lake significantly enhances the recreational appeal of the campground, making it ideal for those who enjoy swimming, fishing (if permitted and with appropriate licenses), or simply relaxing by the water.
It's important to be aware of potential ambient noise at Purple Point Campground. One reviewer mentions that early-departing boaters ("voters" likely referring to ferry or other vessel passengers) might be heard, and due to the campground's proximity to the road, some road traffic noise can be expected as people begin their day. This suggests that while the location is scenic and convenient, it may not offer complete seclusion from the sounds of activity in the area. Light sleepers might want to bring earplugs to ensure uninterrupted rest, especially during early morning hours.
Promotional information for Purple Point Campground is not explicitly provided in the given reviews. Typically, campgrounds managed by the National Park Service or other similar entities might have information on their official websites regarding seasonal rates, reservation procedures, and any special programs or events. Local users interested in potential discounts for residents or off-season rates should inquire directly with the managing authority, which is likely the National Park Service given the location within the Stehekin area and the presence of the Pacific Crest Trail nearby. It would be advisable to check the official website for North Cascades National Park or the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area for the most current information on fees, reservations (which are often recommended, especially during peak season), and any alerts or regulations.
In conclusion, Purple Point Campground offers a highly accessible and scenic camping experience on the shores of Lake Chelan in Stehekin, Washington. Its key features include clean flush toilets, bear-safe food storage, picnic benches, and fire pits at each campsite. The immediate access to Lake Chelan with a dock and swimming opportunities, coupled with stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, makes it an attractive destination for those searching for "camping near me" with a focus on lakeside recreation and natural beauty. While some campsites may have less privacy from the road and some ambient noise from early morning traffic and boaters can be expected, the overall positive reviews highlight the campground's convenience and appealing location. Local users are encouraged to contact the managing authority, likely the National Park Service, for the most up-to-date information on reservations, fees, regulations, and any promotional offers to plan their camping trip to this beautiful area.

Purple Point Campground Reviews
Very accessible and a great campground with access to a clean washroom with a flush toilet. My group and I were in site 1 - which had 2 tent spots. We really loved camping here for two nights! There is a bear safe food storage unit for every 2 campsites. Each campsite has a picnic bench as well as a fire-pit(when we visited there was a fire ban, so we couldn’t use it). I really loved site 1 as it afforded views of the Cascade pass in the north and the Northern section of Lake Chelan. One thing though - our campsite was visible from the road - especially the picnic bench; often, we were saying hello or waving to other fellow travelers using the road. It wasn’t a big deal for us - however if that bothers you, I was told by my friend that you can put up a tarp as a screen!
Aug 07, 2023 · SwapWhen you just cross the street to Purple Point there is a dock and ramps that you can walk on and your view is phenomenal. The water is cold but you can swim and it's not very deep and it's nice there's a log that you can swim to or you can sunbathe on it if you want. And it's very close to the shoreline. If voters are leaving really early you might hear them or for sure hear them. And since you're very close to the road you will hear a little road traffic as people start moving about their day ...no sleeping in 🤣🤣!
Sep 27, 2022 · Christine TheubetA scenic free campground that caters to hikers. Best kept secret in Washington State. A definite must stay if taking a zero.
Jul 23, 2019 · Travis RA very short walk from the ferry. Some lake views but it can be noisy in the am. Bear boxes need to be used. Dishwashing station with a flush toilet. No showers. We enjoyed camping here while we explored Stehkin.
