Worst 'campground' I've ever been to. We would have been better off camping in a ditch. My friend booked 9 spots for this past weekend. A few days before departing, we found out there is NO TUBING. Literally the reason we chose this site. We had 6 campers plus a bunch of people driving in separate to stay with friends. Guess what the first thing they make you pay for when you arrive is? A parking ticket for your car, even if you've PAID for a CAMPING SPOT ALREADY. They hire teenagers so it was taking a good 10+ minutes to get cars checked in. Probably because everyone was arguing paying for a car when they've already paid for a campsite. Once we got everyone in, we had to figure out how to buy over a dozen people tubes, and figure out transportation so we could go tubing on Saturday. The last straw was the electrical breakers kept going out on us so we couldn't even have power in our (small) camper. Would never consider going back to this place. Glad we had good friends to enjoy terrible situation we found ourselves in! - Karla K

Apple River Hideaway Introduce

For local residents seeking "camping near me" with the added allure of river tubing, Apple River Hideaway, located at 712 170th Ave, Somerset, WI 54025, USA, presents itself as a potential destination. Situated along the Apple River, this campground appears to offer a combination of campsites and access to river-based recreational activities, most notably tubing. However, recent customer reviews present a mixed picture, highlighting both positive and negative aspects that local users should carefully consider when planning their visit.

The environment of Apple River Hideaway is undoubtedly centered around its proximity to the Apple River. This suggests a landscape characterized by riverbanks, potentially wooded areas providing shade, and the natural flow of the river itself. The positive review mentions "beautiful" campsites, indicating that the natural setting has the potential to be appealing. The allure of being located directly on the Apple River is significant, especially for those interested in water activities. The river likely provides opportunities not only for tubing but potentially also for swimming and enjoying the riverside atmosphere. The surrounding area of Somerset, Wisconsin, is part of the broader St. Croix River Valley, known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities. Local users might expect to find themselves in a natural environment that offers a break from urban life, with the sights and sounds of the river as a central feature of their camping experience. However, one negative review implies that the campground itself might not be as well-maintained as some visitors might expect, suggesting that while the natural environment of the river is a draw, the campground facilities themselves could vary in quality.

Services at Apple River Hideaway appear to include campsite rentals, with one review mentioning the booking of "9 spots." The negative review also highlights a mandatory "parking ticket" fee upon arrival, even for those who have already paid for a campsite, which was a point of contention for the visitor. This suggests that additional charges beyond the campsite fee may apply, particularly for vehicles. The same review mentions the hiring of "teenagers" for check-in, which reportedly led to slow processing times. This could indicate a younger or less experienced staff, potentially impacting the efficiency of services. Conversely, a positive review praises the "amazing" staff and a "personable and accommodating" owner, suggesting that the quality of service can be variable or that some visitors have had very positive interactions. The positive review also mentions "unlimited tubing with your tube rental," indicating that tube rentals are likely offered as a service associated with the campground. This is a significant feature, especially given that the negative review initially chose the site specifically for tubing but found it unavailable at the time of their visit. This discrepancy highlights the importance of verifying the availability of specific activities like tubing directly with the campground before booking. The issue with "electrical breakers kept going out" in one camper suggests potential problems with the electrical infrastructure at some campsites, which is a crucial service aspect for those relying on electricity during their stay. The positive review's mention of a shuttle service related to tubing, even though they got turned around initially, indicates that transportation for tubing might be provided or coordinated by the campground.

The primary feature of Apple River Hideaway, based on the reviews, is its direct access to the Apple River for tubing. The positive review explicitly states, "There's unlimited tubing with your tube rental," positioning this as a major draw and a potential advantage over other nearby options like "Rivers edge." This suggests that for those primarily interested in tubing, Apple River Hideaway might offer a more comprehensive or convenient experience. However, the negative review's experience of finding "NO TUBING" available at the time of their visit is a significant counterpoint and underscores the need for up-to-date information. Other features mentioned include "beautiful" campsites (according to one reviewer) and "nice" fire pits with "adjustable cooking grates" (from an older review potentially referring to this or a similar campground). The discrepancy in experiences, particularly regarding tubing availability and the additional parking fee, suggests that the features and services might be subject to change or that visitor experiences can vary widely. The fact that one visitor returns annually for a "river trip" indicates a level of consistent appeal for some, likely tied to the river access and tubing. Local users should weigh the positive feedback regarding the beauty of the sites and the unlimited tubing (when available) against the negative feedback concerning unexpected fees, slow check-in, and potential infrastructure issues like electrical problems.

Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the mention of "unlimited tubing with your tube rental" could be considered a promotional aspect, highlighting a specific benefit of renting tubes through the campground. Local users interested in potential discounts or special offers should contact Apple River Hideaway directly using the provided phone numbers: (715) 600-6145 or +1 715-600-6145. It would be prudent to inquire about any package deals that might include camping and tubing, as well as any potential discounts for local residents or for group bookings. Given the contrasting experiences in the reviews, it might also be beneficial to ask about the current status of tubing operations and any potential additional fees, such as the parking fee mentioned. Staying informed about the most recent policies and offerings directly from the campground will help local users make an informed decision. It's possible that the campground offers seasonal promotions or discounts for weekday stays or longer durations, so these are worth inquiring about when contacting them.

In conclusion, Apple River Hideaway in Somerset, WI, offers a "camping near me" experience centered around the Apple River and its popular tubing activity. While one reviewer praised the beautiful sites, amazing staff, and unlimited tubing, another reported a very negative experience due to the unexpected unavailability of tubing, mandatory parking fees for campers, slow check-in, and electrical issues. Local users considering Apple River Hideaway should be aware of these contrasting perspectives. The key features appear to be its riverfront location and the potential for unlimited tubing with a rental. However, it is crucial to contact the campground directly at (715) 600-6145 or +1 715-600-6145 to verify the current status of tubing operations, inquire about all potential fees (including parking), and get up-to-date information on services and amenities. While the promise of a river getaway with tubing is appealing, local campers should ensure that their expectations align with the current realities of Apple River Hideaway based on the most recent information available from the campground itself.
