Willow River State Park Campground

4.0
Nice park, but expensive and needs better signage and dump facilities. Our price was $63 for out of state. Electric only; no FHU! We camped in site 121 which was very flat and allowed good Starlink reception. Bath house was very nice so showered there instead of our rig. Great trails and waterfall is spectacular. One more big negative beside price…only one dump station for three camp areas and it is not marked on any road sign. So keep the map they give you. The wait to dump was three deep on Friday at noon, so plan carefully. - Neal Carney

Willow River State Park Campground Introduce

For local users seeking an outstanding "camping near me" experience, Willow River State Park Campground, located at 020-1009-70-000, Hudson, WI 54016, USA, presents a compelling option. Situated within the scenic Willow River State Park, this campground offers a blend of natural beauty and essential amenities for a memorable outdoor getaway. You can reach them at (888) 947-2757 or their mobile number +1 888-947-2757 for inquiries and reservations.

Willow River State Park Campground falls squarely within the "camping near me" category, providing a local escape into the heart of Wisconsin's natural landscape. Based on feedback from fellow campers, the park boasts several attractive features, including spacious and private campsites. Many sites are described as very large, offering ample room to spread out and enjoy your surroundings. The presence of mature trees and shrubs around the campsites contributes significantly to privacy, creating a more secluded and enjoyable camping experience, especially when the foliage is in full bloom.

One of the key highlights of Willow River State Park is its stunning natural environment. The park is known for its beautiful scenery and, most notably, its spectacular waterfall. Several walking paths and trails wind through the park, offering opportunities for exploration and enjoying the picturesque landscapes. A highly recommended experience is taking the blue trail from the 300 campground to the falls. According to visitor reviews, the waterfall is more impressive than anticipated and well worth the walk. The trails themselves are described as wide and mostly shaded, making for pleasant hikes even on warmer days.

For those who enjoy bringing their furry companions along on their "camping near me" adventures, Willow River State Park is pet-friendly. This allows you to share the beauty of the park and the enjoyable walks with your dogs. One reviewer specifically mentioned the approximately 1.5-mile walk to the falls being a positive experience for their dogs, indicating that the trails are suitable for pets.

In terms of services and features at the campground itself, it's important to note that the campsites mentioned in the reviews are equipped with electric hookups (20/30/50 amps). However, it's explicitly stated that these are "electric only" sites, meaning there are no full hookups (FHU) that include water and sewer connections at the individual campsites. For water and waste disposal, campers rely on the park's facilities.

The park does offer a "very nice" bathhouse, which many campers find convenient for showering. This amenity adds a level of comfort to the camping experience, especially for those who prefer not to use the facilities in their own RV or camper. The availability of a well-maintained bathhouse is a significant plus for any "camping near me" location.

However, some aspects of the campground's infrastructure have received critical feedback. One notable concern is the limited number and potentially inadequate signage for the dump station. Reviews indicate that there is only one dump station serving three campground areas. Furthermore, this crucial facility is reportedly not clearly marked on road signs within the park, making it difficult to locate without the map provided upon arrival. This can lead to inconvenience and delays, as evidenced by a reviewer who experienced a three-deep wait to use the dump station on a Friday at noon. Local users planning a weekend stay, in particular, should be mindful of potential wait times and plan their departure accordingly.

Another point to consider is the cost of camping at Willow River State Park. According to customer reviews, it is perceived as "a little pricey." There is a requirement to have a Wisconsin State Park sticker, which costs $38 annually. On top of this, the camping fee for a site with electricity is $33 per night. For out-of-state visitors, the total cost for a single night with electricity could amount to $71 (sticker prorated or purchased for the year plus the nightly fee), as one reviewer mentioned paying $63 for an out-of-state stay with electric only. Even for day visits to the park, there is an entrance fee of $10 for in-state residents and $13 for out-of-state visitors. Local users who are already Wisconsin residents and possess a state park sticker will find the nightly camping fee to be the primary cost.

Despite the concerns about pricing and dump station logistics, visitors generally enjoy their stay at Willow River State Park Campground. The large, private campsites, the well-maintained bathhouse, the pet-friendly environment, and the spectacular natural attractions, especially the waterfall and the hiking trails, contribute to a positive camping experience. The availability of electric hookups is also a significant convenience for many campers.

For local users considering Willow River State Park Campground for their next "camping near me" trip, it's advisable to factor in the additional costs of the state park sticker and the nightly camping fee. It's also crucial to obtain and keep the park map handy to locate the dump station and plan for potential wait times, especially during peak season or on weekends. The good Starlink reception reported at at least one site (site 121) might be a bonus for those who need to stay connected.

In summary, Willow River State Park Campground offers a beautiful natural setting with spacious and private electric campsites. Local users can enjoy great hiking trails, a stunning waterfall, and a pet-friendly environment. While the cost might be a consideration and the dump station facilities and signage could be improved, the overall experience of camping within this Wisconsin State Park is generally positive. For a convenient and nature-filled "camping near me" getaway, Willow River State Park Campground is definitely worth considering. Remember to call (888) 947-2757 or +1 888-947-2757 for reservations and the most up-to-date information.
