Aquia Pines Camp Resort

3071 Richmond Hwy, Stafford, VA 22554, USA

3.0
Aquia Pines is a fantastic spot for both short and long stays! The location is unbeatable, with easy access to a variety of stores, restaurants and DC. The owner, Everett, was incredibly accommodating, even working with us to extend our stay without any issues. The park itself is well-maintained, with clean bathrooms and showers, and the laundry facilities were in great shape and reasonably priced. For families, there's a large playground and a basketball court, which were perfect for the kids. There is also a pool, during in-season months. The trails within the park are great for walking, and the dog park is huge, which was a major plus for us and our dog. - Jason Lum

Aquia Pines Camp Resort Introduce

For local residents in Stafford, Virginia, and those in the surrounding areas looking for "camping near me," Aquia Pines Camp Resort, located at 3071 Richmond Hwy, Stafford, VA 22554, USA, presents itself as an option. They can be contacted at (540) 659-3447 or +1 540-659-3447. Based on a review analysis, the resort has received mixed feedback regarding its facilities and management.

One positive aspect frequently mentioned is the convenient location of Aquia Pines. It is described as "unbeatable," offering "easy access to a variety of stores, restaurants and DC." This proximity to local amenities and the nation's capital could be a significant draw for those wanting to combine a camping experience with access to urban conveniences or tourist attractions. The resort is also noted to be open during the winter months, which can be advantageous for year-round campers.

In terms of amenities, one reviewer highlighted several positives. They mentioned that the park is "well-maintained, with clean bathrooms and showers," and that the "laundry facilities were in great shape and reasonably priced." For families, the presence of a "large playground and a basketball court" was appreciated. Additionally, there is a pool available during the in-season months. For pet owners, a "huge" dog park is noted as a major plus. The park also features trails that are "great for walking." This paints a picture of a campground with a range of facilities catering to different needs, from families with children to those traveling with pets.

However, not all feedback has been positive. One detailed review strongly cautions potential visitors, stating, "this is NO RESORT." This reviewer chose the campground for its proximity to D.C. and its winter availability but experienced significant issues. The most prominent concern was the owner's practice of locking the water supply to RVs that were not deemed "winterized," even during a New Year's Day stay. The reviewer reported that the water was not restored until late the following morning, and when this was discussed with the owner, the owner seemed more concerned about his equipment than the campers' welfare. This approach was contrasted with other campgrounds where the practice is to advise visitors on how to prevent freezing by disconnecting and dripping water.

Furthermore, the same reviewer raised "serious concerns as to the safety of patrons" regarding the playground area. They described a slide that appeared to be about three feet off the ground and a large hole with wood around the perimeter located within the playground. These observations, accompanied by a suggestion to look at accompanying photos, indicate potential safety hazards in the children's play area.

The overall impression conveyed by this negative review is that Aquia Pines might be a "dump," and the reviewer alleged a lack of customer service, describing the owner as an "absolute jerk." The practice of locking the water and the delayed restoration were cited as significant inconveniences. The reviewer also mentioned that the owner tends to "victim blame" and respond negatively to unfavorable reviews.

Considering these contrasting viewpoints, local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh the convenience of the location and the presence of amenities like a playground and dog park against the reported issues with water access in winter, potential safety concerns in the playground, and negative experiences with the owner.

To provide an objective summary for local campers:

  • Location: Conveniently located near stores, restaurants, and with easy access to Washington D.C. Open year-round.
  • Amenities: Offers clean bathrooms and showers, reasonably priced laundry facilities, a large playground, a basketball court, an in-season pool, walking trails, and a large dog park.
  • Potential Drawbacks: Limited or restricted water access in winter for non-"winterized" RVs, potential safety issues with the playground, and reports of poor customer service and unkempt appearance.

Given the strong negative feedback regarding the owner's practices and the condition of the campground, particularly the playground, local users are advised to exercise caution. If proximity to D.C. and certain amenities are high priorities, Aquia Pines might still be considered, but potential visitors should be prepared for the possibility of encountering the issues raised in the negative reviews. It might be prudent to inquire specifically about the water policy during colder months and the current condition of the playground when contacting the campground.

In conclusion, Aquia Pines Camp Resort offers a convenient location near Stafford, VA, with access to Washington D.C., and provides a range of amenities. However, potential local campers should be aware of significant negative feedback concerning winter water restrictions, the condition and safety of the playground, and customer service. It is recommended to call the provided phone numbers to seek clarification on these aspects and to make an informed decision based on individual priorities for a "camping near me" experience.
