Ash River Campground

Orr, MN 55771, USA

4.0
Small campground with limited sites and tons of mosquitos. I didn’t want to believe the other reviews about the mosquitos but please do not take them lightly and heed their warning. They are relentless. We were going to stay for two nights but left early because we were covered in welts from the bugs. There are two composting toilets that are clean and maintained very well and the fire rings are quite nice as well. No frills, close to primitive. - Janna M

Ash River Campground Introduce

For local users seeking "camping near me" in a potentially more rustic setting, Ash River Campground, located in Orr, MN, offers an option to consider. Situated in the vicinity of Orr, which serves as a gateway to the stunning Voyageurs National Park, this small campground appears to provide a more "no frills," close-to-primitive camping experience. The address for Ash River Campground is Orr, MN 55771, USA. Based on available user reviews, it's important for potential visitors to have a realistic understanding of what this campground offers.

The environment surrounding Ash River Campground is likely characterized by the natural beauty of northern Minnesota. Being near Orr, it is reasonable to assume proximity to forests, waterways (potentially the Ash River itself or nearby lakes), and the general wilderness that makes this part of the state appealing to outdoor enthusiasts. You can probably expect a setting conducive to experiencing nature, with opportunities for wildlife observation and enjoying the quieter aspects of the outdoors. However, one significant aspect of the environment, highlighted in user reviews, is the presence of a substantial mosquito population. Multiple reviewers strongly caution about relentless mosquitos, suggesting that potent insect repellent and protective clothing are essential if you plan to stay here, particularly during warmer months.

In terms of services, based on the user reviews, Ash River Campground seems to offer a limited set of amenities, leaning towards a more primitive camping experience. One positive aspect mentioned is the presence of two composting toilets that are reported to be clean and well-maintained. Additionally, the campground features fire rings at the campsites, which is a standard and appreciated amenity for those who enjoy campfires for cooking and ambiance. However, the reviews also indicate a lack of other frills, reinforcing the "close to primitive" description. There is no mention of amenities like showers, potable water hookups at sites, or electrical hookups. One concerning point raised by a reviewer is the apparent practice of individuals leaving large RVs unoccupied for extended periods, seemingly as a way to "reserve" sites, which can be frustrating for other travelers seeking a place to stay. Another mentioned issue was the noise from generators running all night and woodcutting starting early in the morning, which could impact the peacefulness of the camping experience.

The features of Ash River Campground, as gleaned from the limited information and user reviews, include its small size and limited number of sites, which could appeal to those seeking a more intimate camping experience away from larger, busier campgrounds. The clean and maintained composting toilets and the nice fire rings are also features worth noting. However, the overwhelming presence of mosquitos, as consistently highlighted by reviewers, is a significant factor that potential visitors must consider. The proximity to the natural environment of the Orr area and the potential access to outdoor activities associated with it (though not specifically detailed for the campground itself) could also be seen as features, provided one is well-prepared for the insect situation. The reviews also indirectly highlight a potential issue with the informal "reservation" of sites by leaving unoccupied RVs, which could impact site availability for genuine travelers.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Ash River Campground in the provided data. Given its small size and more primitive nature, it's less likely to have formal promotions. However, for local users looking for "camping near me" who are prepared for a more basic experience and the reported mosquito issue, Ash River Campground might still serve as an access point to the surrounding natural attractions of the Orr area and Voyageurs National Park. It is advisable to check with any relevant local authorities or online camping resources for information on availability, fees (if any), and any specific regulations before planning a visit.

In summary, Ash River Campground near Orr, MN, offers a small, more primitive camping experience with limited services, including clean composting toilets and nice fire rings. However, potential visitors should be aware of the consistently reported issue with a large and relentless mosquito population. Additionally, there have been mentions of potential issues with site availability due to unoccupied RVs and noise disturbances. While the campground provides access to the natural environment of the region, those considering "camping near me" at Ash River Campground should weigh the basic amenities and the natural setting against the reported challenges with insects and potential campground management issues based on user feedback.
