Backwoods Campground and RV Park Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" that caters to both RVers and those seeking cabin stays? Backwoods Campground and RV Park, located at 15609 Co Rd 344 in Savannah, Missouri, offers a variety of accommodation options and amenities for outdoor enthusiasts. Based on recent customer feedback, the park presents a mixed experience, with some guests highlighting positive aspects while others encountered significant issues. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the environment, services, features, and some promotional considerations based on these reviews.
Environment: Spacious Grounds with Diverse Amenities
According to one positive review, Backwoods Campground and RV Park boasts "plenty of places to walk and see," suggesting a spacious environment conducive to exploration. The mention of a pool, a playground, a dog park, and a couple of ponds indicates a setting designed for varied recreational activities suitable for families, pet owners, and those who enjoy leisurely strolls. The reviewer who stayed in an RV noted that the RV spots are "spacious enough" to accommodate a 43' fifth wheel, a 14' cargo trailer, and two trucks, highlighting the generous size of the sites. This suggests that the park can comfortably handle larger vehicles and offers ample space for guests to set up. The same reviewer described the property as "beautiful and peaceful," indicating an environment that many might find relaxing and enjoyable. However, a contrasting review paints a different picture, particularly concerning the upkeep and condition of certain areas, especially the cabins. This suggests that while some parts of the campground might offer a pleasant environment, others may not be as well-maintained.
Services and Amenities: A Range of Offerings with Inconsistencies
The positive review highlights a range of services and amenities at Backwoods Campground and RV Park, including full hookup RV spots, cabins, a pool, a playground, a dog park, and event areas. The availability of full hookups is a significant advantage for RV travelers. The mention of cabins suggests an alternative to tent or RV camping. The presence of a pool and playground indicates family-friendly features. The dog park caters to those traveling with pets. However, the negative review points out significant service issues experienced by a group renting the "campgrounds" and "event space." These issues included no running water in the kitchen of the event space, only one working shower in the entire campground, and the absence of a promised golf cart. For cabin renters, there were issues with the condition of the cabins, such as a lack of mattresses in the lofts, uncleanliness, and a collapsing bed. The negative review also mentions a lack of responsiveness from the owners prior to arrival. Conversely, the positive reviewer had no issues contacting one of the owners when needed and appreciated the forwarding of a package after their departure. This suggests that while some guests have experienced positive interactions and appreciated the available amenities, others have encountered significant shortcomings in both the facilities and the service.
Features: Something for Everyone, but Quality Varies
The features of Backwoods Campground and RV Park appear diverse, catering to different types of travelers. For RVers, the spacious full hookup sites are a notable feature. For those not traveling with an RV, the availability of cabins offers a different camping experience. The presence of recreational amenities like a pool and playground adds to the appeal for families. The dog park is a valuable feature for pet owners. The event areas suggest the park can host larger gatherings. However, the stark contrast between the two reviews indicates that the quality and reliability of these features can vary significantly. While one reviewer enjoyed the "freedom" of the campground and found it peaceful, the other described the property as a "damn dump" due to numerous maintenance and service-related problems. This discrepancy highlights the importance of considering both positive and negative feedback when evaluating the features of Backwoods Campground and RV Park.

Backwoods Campground and RV Park Reviews
My family of 3 loved it here. There is plenty of places to walk and see, a pool, a playground, a dog park, a couple ponds, cabins, rv spots, event areas, probably more, but thats what i remember. We were in the area for work, and a city employee introduced us to the campground when we had called 15 other places around listed on Google Maps, with no luck because They were booked through the labor day weekend and we were going to have to "be kicked out" for the weekend, or they didn't have the space to accommodate our camper and trailer. So, We were both thankful and actually considered ourselves lucky to have stumbled upon this gem because they had availabilities even through the holiday weekend and the space! We stayed for 3 weeks, got to meet both owners, and did not have any issues at all getting in contact with Katie, one owner, when needed, i feel the need to specify because I have seen reviews stating they had that problem, however we did not. We paid for a month, @$550, anticipating my husband's job was going to last the full month but it only lasted 3 weeks, but paying for the month saved us a little $ vs. paying per week @ the weekly rate. The rv spots are full hookups and spacious enough for our 43' fithwheel, our 14' cargo trailer, and our 2 trucks right beside. So, it is very spacious compared to other campgrounds. We didn't have any issues with the owners, also no issues with the property itself, it was beautiful and peaceful in our opinion and we also really enjoyed the freedom of this campground, we travel the country for work and believe me when I say most campgrounds have a page of rules for you to sign and agree to, here you are just expected to be a decent human and you will not have any problems. It was a very "you do you" place, and everyone else who was staying there just minded their own business and did their own thing. The owners even went as far as forwarding us a package that showed up after we left, so that was awesome of them. They were both really kind and great conversation.
Sep 20, 2024 · Nikki ThrasherIt is very rare that I give a negative review for anything, anywhere, beyond a few words and at least 3 stars (I do allow for mix-ups and things that I just don't prefer). However, Barnes Acres DOES deserve this review and a whole lot more. This past weekend my non-profit group rented the "campgrounds" and "event space" for an annual event. We knew that most of the populace of our event would either be camping or hoteling, though some (like my friends and I) decided to rent cabins for the weekend. At $117 for the 2 nights, we figured that's a pretty good deal. Knew that the cabins did not have running water, nor any bathroom facilities IN the cabins, but as most of us normally tent camp, that was considered luxury. The problems began upon arrival. The check-in point for our group had NO idea who to contact nor if the cabins were open for those of us that did rent a cabin. And I didn't, either - because of the 4 times I tried to get ahold of the camp owners, zero times were they responsive (turns out there was a reason for that - we'll get to that in a moment). BUT we persevere - up to the cabins we went!Thankfully, we found our cabin - Cabin 6. How? Well, there was no number on the cabin, but we extrapolated that our cabin was between cabin 5 and 7. Turns out cabin 1 didn't exist, but that's neither here nor there. Along with the pile of trash in the stinky trash-can outside our cabin door (which was left open and there was a sticky drink cup on the railing), we found it just fine. Next came the surprises - per the website we were promised "2 double beds on the main floor with 2 lofts above. The lofts sleep 2-4 kids on each side (depending on the size of the kids)." Now, to us, that mean there'd be mattresses up in the lofts as well as the two double beds below. Fortunately, it was only the 3 of us in the cabin because there were no mattresses in the lofts. And what were in the lofts - dirt, grime, random refuse from what we assume were small animals, no one would want to sleep in.But it was okay - the 3 of us (a married couple and myself) made it work. We thought. Imagine our surprise when 20 minutes into finally getting to bed (we moved the stinky trash can, found a lightbulb in a neighboring cabin - because the lamp that we had in our cabin didn't have any, and decided that the permanent resident behind the cabin probably was okay to be around - we hadn't seen him and he seemed fairly quiet), the bed collapsed under my friends! I don't think I have to tell any of you dear readers that this does not a good night make. We ended up moving their mattress to the floor and spent a very stressed out night trying to get some sleep. In the morning, we went to the main event space to find out that there were several other issues our group was dealing with:1) no running water in the kitchen.2) only one shower working on the whole campground.3) the promised golf cart was not in evidence (though WAS a part of our contract when our group decided to run the event from this space - there are a LOT of hills on this place)4) dogs being locked up in one of the cabins - that had been reserved (along with the endless defecation that dogs tend to do when being locked up); frankly many of us were a little concerned about the dogs being locked up5) the site not being cleaned up from a wedding a few days before our event6) one of the owners being in jail for check fraud (oh no - did I let the cat outta the bag??)7) no one answering any of our texts, calls, requests, anythingI don't think I need to go on. If you want a good place to rent out for camping, a wedding, an event, or anything else in Savannah, MO - look elsewhere. This place is a damn dump.
Sep 10, 2024 · Trisha Wisebaker (trishafurrbaker)Last minute trip for Memorial weekend. Lots of fun in a friendly atmosphere. The pool is a decent size and even gets to 10'. The pond is beautiful and a nice place to kayak/canoe. The activities alone are worth it, both for kids and adults. We had 7 kids ranging from 9-18 which none of them had complaints(that's rare).
May 31, 2021 · Jaclyn TimmAbsolutely one of my FAVORITE locations for photography sessions! Always are super accommodating, the owners are easy to work with and great communication! 10/10 recommend for camping/weddings or even a photo session!!
Jun 28, 2024 · Pasture PortraitsThis site could have been great. However the site owner ghosted us, double booked the venue for a child's birthday party, and left it absolutely trashed.Additionally, the kitchen/bar area has no running water, the sinks are not connected to drain lines so if you pour out something, it just falls into the cabinet. The showers don't work and had used bloody tampons on the floor, half the bathrooms didn't work, the cabins were not as advertised. They only had 1 bed and 1 futon, not the 4 double beds as advertised. One of the platforms that they called a bed was broken. I paid for a cabin for 2 nights with a golf cart rental, paid for it all, and when I got there, the room stunk of pee, there were bugs everywhere, there was trash everywhere inside and piled on the front porch. It was completely unusable. Our guests of honor drove 6+ hours for this event only to find out they didn't have the cabin they paid for because there was already someone living in it who supposedly had it booked for a week with two large dogs. On the one occasion I met the owner in person, she promised me a refund, but never followed through. We will never host an event here again. They should be shut down for fraud.
