Bailey Cove Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the stunning Shasta Lake region of Northern California? Bailey Cove Campground, located on Bailey Cove Rd, Lakehead, CA 96051, USA, offers a picturesque lakeside setting that might be just what you're looking for. You can reach them at (530) 275-8113 or +1 530-275-8113 for inquiries about availability and regulations. This campground provides access to the beauty of Shasta Lake and opportunities for various outdoor activities.
Bailey Cove Campground is situated in a beautiful area, primarily known for its proximity to the pristine waters of Shasta Lake. The environment is characterized by the natural beauty of the lake and the surrounding wooded landscapes, offering a scenic backdrop for camping and recreation. The easy access to the lake makes it a potentially attractive destination for those seeking a "camping near me" experience centered around water activities and natural beauty.
Environment and Location:
The primary draw of Bailey Cove Campground is undoubtedly its location on the shores of Shasta Lake. This large reservoir is known for its clear waters, numerous inlets, and surrounding forested hills, creating a stunning environment for camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. The "beautiful lake" mentioned in a review underscores the scenic appeal of the area. Lakeside camping offers the convenience of direct access to water-based activities and often provides beautiful views.
However, one review highlights a significant environmental factor to consider: the potential for a high concentration of spiders, particularly in early May. The reviewer described "dozens-even hundreds of spiders in the bathroom" and "spiders all over the ground like a swarm." They also noted learning that bugs are "incredibly active near the lake this time of year." This suggests that while the natural environment is beautiful, potential visitors should be aware of seasonal insect activity, especially during the spring months, and come prepared.
The campground also appears to be located near or connected to hiking trails, as one review mentions a "beautiful easy hike" accessible from the area. This adds to the recreational opportunities beyond the lake itself, appealing to those who enjoy exploring the natural surroundings on foot.
Services and Amenities:
Limited information is available regarding the specific services and amenities offered at Bailey Cove Campground. The mention of a bathroom facility, despite the spider issue reported, indicates the presence of at least basic restroom facilities. The review also mentions a "nice picnic area," suggesting that the campground provides designated spaces for day use and potentially for campers to enjoy meals outdoors.
The fact that dogs are required to be leashed indicates that the campground is pet-friendly, which is a significant feature for many seeking "camping near me" who wish to bring their animal companions. However, specific amenities for pets, such as designated dog runs, are not mentioned.
One concerning aspect raised in a review pertains to fee enforcement. The reviewer mentioned paying a fee for parking to access a hike but observed other cars not paying without apparent intervention from the "camp host." This suggests potential inconsistencies in fee collection, which might be a point of frustration for those who do pay. The fee mentioned was $12 for parking associated with a 3-mile hike.
The presence of a "camp host" implies some level of on-site management and assistance for campers, although the review regarding fee enforcement raises questions about the effectiveness of their oversight in all areas.
Features and Activities:
The primary features of Bailey Cove Campground revolve around its lakeside location and the natural environment. Access to Shasta Lake provides opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing, and other water-based activities. The beauty of the lake itself is a major draw.
The presence of hiking trails offers another significant feature, allowing visitors to explore the surrounding landscape and enjoy scenic views. The "easy hike" mentioned suggests that trails suitable for a variety of fitness levels may be available.
The picnic area provides a convenient space for meals and gatherings, enhancing the overall camping and day-use experience.
The dog-friendly policy (with leash requirement) is a notable feature for pet owners seeking "camping near me" where they can include their dogs in their outdoor adventures.
Important Considerations and Potential Drawbacks:
The most significant potential drawback highlighted in the reviews is the seasonal insect activity, particularly the apparent abundance of spiders in early May. This is a crucial factor for potential visitors during the spring months to be aware of and prepare for.
The reported inconsistency in fee enforcement could be a concern for those who adhere to the rules and pay the required fees. It might also indicate a broader issue with park management or oversight.
The limited information about specific amenities and services makes it difficult to provide a comprehensive assessment of the campground's offerings. Potential campers may need to contact the campground directly to inquire about specific facilities such as water hookups, electrical connections (if any), fire pits, and waste disposal.
Promotional Information and Call to Action (With Caveats):
If you are searching for "camping near me" with direct access to the beauty and recreational opportunities of Shasta Lake, Bailey Cove Campground offers a potentially attractive option. Its lakeside location provides stunning scenery and access to water activities. The presence of hiking trails and a picnic area further enhances its appeal for outdoor enthusiasts.
However, prospective visitors should be aware of the potential for significant insect activity, particularly spiders, especially during the early spring. It is advisable to inquire with the campground management about the typical seasons for insect prevalence and to come prepared with appropriate insect repellent and precautions.
If you plan to hike, be aware of the $12 parking fee mentioned in a review and ensure you understand the payment procedures. It might be beneficial to clarify the fee structure and enforcement policies with the campground in advance.
For those traveling with dogs, Bailey Cove Campground's pet-friendly policy (on leash) is a plus. Be sure to bring appropriate supplies for your pet and adhere to the leash requirement.

Bailey Cove Campground Reviews
Beautiful lake, beautiful campground - however- we came here in early May, and there were so. Many. Spiders. Spiders all over the ground like a swarm, dozens-even hundreds of spiders in the bathroom. We learned later that the bugs are apparently incredibly active near the lake this time of year.
May 01, 2025 · Carey NorlandIt's a beautiful easy hike. Nice picnic area. Dogs need leashed. We paid the fee to use .... but other cars didn't and the camp host didn't seem to care. 12$ for parking for a 3 mile hike 😕
Mar 03, 2024 · kimber LeannThis place was great I stayed the full 15 days and the camp host Brian was amazing and kind so deserves a raise or something for how wonderful and on top of stuff he was there is so many vistors in and out and he keeps up with them all if I could would rate it ad 10 stars our dog passed her because of her old age and other medical complications and Brian was so compassionate and kind thank you again
Mar 30, 2025 · Zeek “The Burb Nest”(8/15-8/18) Nice tucked away clean campground. Honestly the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen/smelled at a campsite in my life, props to the host staff. The day-use launch ramp nextdoor had been lifted a couple days before we got there so there was minimal public traffic and no noise but the nearby highway (I never noticed it much). We rented a boat at Holiday Harbor and preferred a smaller campground than theirs, and Bailey Cove delivered, less than half a mile from HH campground. Shasta Caverns was a dope way to spend a few hours. No ants, yellowjackets were easily distracted with a bottle trap, very few mosquitos. We'll definitely be back on a future trip up to Shasta Lake.
Aug 20, 2024 · CJ BalangueGreat stop for a night when on a road trip, not the prettiest campsite but the location minutes from the interstate can’t be beat. Some people complain about the highway noise but it didn’t bother us.
