We had an amazing weekend! Sure was clean and affordable. We had to get 2 sites because it was kinda small for 2 tents and our supplies let alone 2 vehicles. Shower and bathroom area always the cleanest with so much hot water that I’ve never run out! Noise is not an issue and very family oriented. Plenty of fishing areas and even brought our paddle boat and had many areas to use it. The only down side we had was that our site was near a main road that had through traffic so you had to listen and see cars all day and night and the worst was that their was a public dumpster by the bathroom that was near by and for some reason they decide that at 7 am on a Saturday morning is the best time to come and dump it. That was miserable. And I never mind the 5th wheel campers when we are tent camping and to be mixed among them, however this time we were right across from one that had a huge blue led light on the front that stayed on 24/7 and I have a dark room technology tent but it still shined through with that level of brightness so I wouldn’t want to camp next to that again. All and all it was a beautiful weekend but I think we will try and find a more secluded camping spot to go tent camping next time. - Heather Graves

Bailey's Point Campground Introduce

For local residents in Kentucky and surrounding areas seeking a lakeside "camping near me" experience, Bailey's Point Campground, located at Bailey Point Rd, Scottsville, KY 42164, USA, offers a spacious and amenity-rich option on the shores of Barren River Lake. You can reach them at (270) 622-6959 or their mobile number, +1 270-622-6959, for inquiries and reservations. As the largest of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) campgrounds in the area, Bailey's Point provides a peaceful and beautiful setting with a variety of recreational opportunities, although some considerations regarding site selection and potential noise should be noted.

The environment of Bailey's Point Campground is a major draw for visitors. Situated on the expansive Barren River Lake, the campground offers stunning water views and numerous access points for lake activities. One reviewer described the location as "very peaceful, beautiful here on a huge lake!" The presence of ample space between campsites is another significant advantage, contributing to a sense of privacy and tranquility that is often sought after in a camping experience. Some sites are specifically designated for tent camping, catering to those who prefer a more traditional outdoor experience. The majority of the sites are reported to be level and easy to enter, making setup more convenient for both tent and RV campers.

Bailey's Point Campground is also conveniently located about one hour south of Mammoth Cave National Park, making it a potential basecamp for those wishing to explore the famous cave system and the surrounding natural attractions of south-central Kentucky. This proximity adds to its appeal for both local and regional travelers looking to combine a relaxing lakeside camping trip with visits to other points of interest.

In terms of services and features, Bailey's Point Campground appears well-equipped for a comfortable stay. One reviewer specifically praised the cleanliness of the shower and bathroom areas, noting that they were "always the cleanest" and had an abundance of hot water. This is a significant positive for campers who value clean and reliable facilities. The campground is also described as "very family oriented," suggesting a welcoming atmosphere for families with children. The abundance of fishing areas caters to anglers, and the lake itself provides ample space for paddle boating and other watercraft activities, as one guest who brought their paddle boat enthusiastically mentioned.

Recreational opportunities within and around the campground are plentiful. The level terrain and spaciousness between sites make it "great for riding bikes, walking, fishing, swimming..." according to one satisfied camper. The enjoyment of observing local wildlife, such as chipmunks and squirrels, adds to the natural charm of the campground. The overall atmosphere is described as conducive to relaxation and enjoying the outdoors.

However, potential visitors should be aware of a few drawbacks mentioned by a reviewer. One camper who required two sites for their tents, supplies, and vehicles noted that the individual sites were "kinda small." This suggests that those with multiple tents or larger setups might need to reserve multiple sites to accommodate their needs comfortably. The same reviewer also experienced noise issues due to their site's proximity to a "main road that had through traffic," resulting in constant vehicle noise day and night. Additionally, they were disturbed by the early morning (7 am on a Saturday) emptying of a public dumpster located near the bathroom.

Another point of concern raised by the same reviewer was the proximity to an RV site with a "huge blue led light on the front that stayed on 24/7." This light was bright enough to shine through a dark room technology tent, causing discomfort. While the reviewer generally didn't mind being mixed among RV campers, this specific lighting issue was a significant negative aspect of their site. This highlights the potential variability in site quality and neighboring campers' setups within the campground.

Despite these drawbacks, the reviewer concluded that it was "all and all a beautiful weekend," indicating that the positive aspects of the campground and the lake outweighed the negatives for them. However, they also mentioned that they would likely seek a more secluded tent camping spot in the future, suggesting that while Bailey's Point has its merits, it might not be ideal for those prioritizing absolute peace and quiet or those sensitive to light pollution at their campsite.

As a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground, reservations can typically be made through the Recreation.gov website or app. This platform usually provides detailed information about site availability, pricing, and campground rules and regulations. Local users are advised to check Recreation.gov for the most up-to-date information and to make reservations in advance, especially during peak season.

Promotional information for COE campgrounds is generally limited, but discounts may be available for senior citizens or holders of the America the Beautiful Pass. It is worth inquiring about these potential discounts when making reservations through Recreation.gov or by contacting the campground directly at the provided phone number.

In conclusion, Bailey's Point Campground offers a large and well-maintained "camping near me" option on the beautiful Barren River Lake near Scottsville, Kentucky. Its clean facilities, spacious sites (though some might be small for larger setups), and numerous recreational activities like fishing, boating, biking, and swimming make it appealing to a wide range of campers, particularly families. Its proximity to Mammoth Cave National Park is an added bonus for those wishing to explore the region. However, potential visitors should be mindful of the possibility of noise from a nearby road and the potential for disruptive lighting from neighboring RVs, and consider these factors when selecting their campsite. Overall, Bailey's Point provides a solid option for a local lakeside camping getaway, and interested users should consult Recreation.gov for reservations and further details.
