Barnes Park Campground Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in the vicinity of the popular Torch Lake in Eastport, Michigan, Barnes Park Campground, situated at 12298 Barnes Park Rd, Eastport, MI 49627, presents a lakeside camping option. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground offers a unique environment with direct water access but also presents certain limitations and considerations that local campers should be aware of. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the campground's environment, services, and features as gleaned from the available feedback.
One of the most frequently mentioned aspects of Barnes Park Campground is its beautiful waterfront location. One reviewer explicitly stated, "This park is beautiful and I love that it’s right on the water." This suggests that the campground boasts scenic views and potentially direct access to a body of water, likely connected to or near Torch Lake, which is renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. For local users who prioritize waterfront camping experiences, the allure of Barnes Park Campground's location could be a significant draw, offering opportunities for swimming, boating, and enjoying lakeside relaxation.
However, the experience of another user highlights a potential point of confusion or miscommunication regarding pet policies. This reviewer specifically inquired about the campground being "dog friendly" before booking and was assured that it was. However, upon arrival, they discovered that "no dogs are allowed on the beach!" This discrepancy caused significant disappointment as their dog enjoys water, and leaving the dog in a hot tent while they enjoyed the lake was not a viable option. This feedback underscores the importance for local users traveling with pets to obtain clear and specific information about pet policies, including any restrictions on beach access or other areas within the campground, directly from the management at the provided phone numbers: (231) 599-2712 or +1 231-599-2712.
The same reviewer also noted that the only available option for them was "walk-in tent sites." This implies that Barnes Park Campground may offer different types of campsites, and availability might vary. Local users planning to tent camp should inquire about the nature of these walk-in sites, including the distance from parking, the terrain, and any specific requirements or limitations associated with them. Additionally, those with RVs or a preference for drive-up sites should specifically ask about the availability of such options.
A significant concern raised by the same reviewer was the lack of privacy at the walk-in tent sites. They described the experience as having "zero privacy" and feeling like they were "practically camping on top of our neighbors." The reviewer even mentioned being able to hear their neighbor snore throughout the night. This feedback suggests that at least some of the tent sites might be closely spaced, which could be a deterrent for local users who value seclusion and a sense of personal space during their camping experience. It would be advisable to inquire about the layout of the campground and the spacing between campsites when making a reservation.
In contrast, a returning visitor who comes "every year multiple times a year and travels very far to get to it" offers a much more positive perspective on the overall experience. This level of repeat visitation suggests that Barnes Park Campground has a strong appeal for certain campers, likely due to its beautiful location and perhaps other positive attributes not explicitly detailed in this review. However, even this loyal visitor mentioned that "the showers leave something to be desired," although they somewhat dismissed this as part of "the fun of camping." Local users who prioritize clean and modern shower facilities should be aware of this potential drawback and might want to inquire further about the condition and maintenance of the bathhouses.
The returning visitor also echoed the sentiment about the dog policy, stating, "I also wish dogs were allowed on the beach because we always have to go somewhere else during the day to take our dogs to play." While they acknowledged understanding the reasons behind the restriction, their wish highlights that the no-dogs-on-the-beach rule is a notable limitation for dog owners who otherwise enjoy the campground's offerings. Local users traveling with dogs will need to consider this restriction and plan accordingly for their pets' enjoyment of the water.
Based on the available reviews, specific details about other services and features of Barnes Park Campground are limited. Local users should inquire about essential amenities such as the availability of drinking water, restroom facilities (beyond the showers), fire pits or grilling areas, picnic tables, and waste disposal. Information about additional recreational opportunities beyond beach access (if any), such as hiking trails, boat launches, or playground areas, would also be beneficial for local families or those seeking a more diverse camping experience.
Promotional information is not provided in the given text. Local users interested in Barnes Park Campground should contact them directly at the provided phone numbers to inquire about current rates, seasonal offers, reservation policies, and any other relevant promotions that might be available. It would also be wise to ask about the best times to visit and any specific regulations or guidelines for campers.
In conclusion, Barnes Park Campground in Eastport, MI, offers a potentially attractive "camping near me" option due to its beautiful waterfront location near Torch Lake, which appeals to returning visitors. However, local users should be aware of potential drawbacks such as the no-dogs-on-the-beach policy, the possibility of closely spaced and less private tent sites, and potentially less-than-ideal shower facilities. Clear communication with the campground management regarding pet policies, campsite availability and privacy, and the condition of amenities is crucial before making a booking. While the beauty of the location is a significant draw, addressing the potential limitations will help local campers determine if Barnes Park Campground meets their specific needs and preferences for a "camping near me" experience.

Barnes Park Campground Reviews
We come here every year multiple times a year and travel very far to get to it. It’s something we look forward to every single time. This park is beautiful and I love that it’s right on the water. The showers leave something to be desired but that’s the fun of camping I guess. I also wish dogs were allowed on the beach because we always have to go somewhere else during the day to take our dogs to play. I understand why they’re not allowed however it would just make this campground all the more better.
Jan 25, 2025 · Kayla SmithWe needed a place to stay near torch lake and unfortunately only this campground was available. We booked it but before doing so we made sure this place was dog friendly. The man said absolutely we are very dog friendly. We get there and no dogs are allowed on the beach! Our dog loves water and you can't really leave your dog in a hot tent while you go play in the water. Also all they had available were walk in tent sites. NEVER AGAIN!!! Zero privacy we were practically camping on top of our neighbors and I heard our neighbor snore literally all night long! We will most definitely be finding a more accommodating campground next time.
Aug 01, 2024 · Morgan MillerGot one of the off grid camping sites. Site 42 to be exact and all I have to say is I hope you know the people around you because your basically all in the same area. No trees or privacy separating the spots next to you at all. Place is very busy and noise level is pretty high. Overall don't think I'd book it again. Update, they have an overwhelming amount of roaches so be careful packing your stuff up to take home 🤮
Aug 15, 2024 · Madison CooperCampground is affordable and very well maintained. Great location. Loved having beach access to swim and watch the sunset at night. Camping is a little too close together in the woods areas but other than that, the amenities we're great!
Aug 11, 2024 · Ray ShermanBeautiful Lake Michigan shoreline is a short walk. Sites may be smaller for some and it can get busy with families. The buildings and grounds were clean and adequate. Most spots have trees. I would recommend it because of the location.
