Pinney Bridge State Forest Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in the Mancelona, Michigan area that offers a tranquil and rustic experience? Pinney Bridge State Forest Campground, located in Mancelona, MI 49659, might be an excellent choice, particularly if you appreciate quiet surroundings and are interested in backpacking or hiking. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground is noted for its peaceful atmosphere and the spacing between campsites, although it's also worth considering the nature of the amenities and the potential cost.
Environment and Location: Pinney Bridge State Forest Campground is situated within a Michigan State Forest near Mancelona. This typically implies a natural woodland setting, likely offering opportunities for hiking and exploring the forest. One reviewer mentioned that it's "a bit of a walk to get in," suggesting that the campsites might be somewhat removed from the main access road, which could contribute to the quiet atmosphere. The campground is described as "very nice and quiet" and "nice rustic," indicating a focus on the natural environment and a more traditional camping experience. The spacing between campsites is highlighted as being sufficient to ensure that you "really won't hear anyone," which is a significant plus for those seeking solitude. The fact that "most people are here for backpacking/hiking in general" suggests that the campground is located in an area with trails or access to wilderness areas suitable for these activities. While the immediate surroundings of the campsites aren't detailed in terms of specific flora or fauna, being in a State Forest generally promises a natural and potentially scenic environment.
Services and Amenities: Pinney Bridge State Forest Campground appears to offer basic, rustic amenities, consistent with many State Forest campgrounds. The reviews specifically mention "vaulted toilets" that are "kept in good condition," which is a positive aspect of the facilities available. One reviewer noted having trouble getting the water pump to prime, which might suggest the presence of a manual water pump for potable water, but also the potential for it to be unreliable. It's important to note that one reviewer mentioned "what little the site has to offer," implying that the amenities are limited, focusing more on the natural experience rather than extensive facilities. There is no mention of electrical hook-ups, showers, or other more developed campground amenities, reinforcing the "rustic" description. If you are looking for "camping near me" that provides a more back-to-nature experience with essential but not extensive facilities, Pinney Bridge might be a good fit. However, if you require more amenities, you might need to consider other options.
Features and Atmosphere: The standout features of Pinney Bridge State Forest Campground are its quiet atmosphere and the spaciousness of the campsites, providing a sense of privacy. Its location within a State Forest and the mention of visitors being there for backpacking/hiking suggest that access to trails and opportunities for these activities are likely key features. The "rustic" nature of the campground implies a more natural and less developed camping experience, which can be appealing to those looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in the outdoors. The quietness reported by multiple reviewers indicates a peaceful and potentially more secluded camping environment. If you value tranquility, privacy, and access to hiking/backpacking in a natural setting when searching for "camping near me," Pinney Bridge seems to deliver on these aspects.
Points to Consider: A significant point to consider is the cost, with one reviewer mentioning it being "pretty pricey ($20/night) especially for what little the site has to offer." This suggests that while the environment and atmosphere might be appealing, the cost might seem high relative to the limited amenities. Additionally, the potential issue with the water pump priming could mean that access to water might not always be straightforward. The "bit of a walk to get in" might be a minor inconvenience for some, but as noted, it aligns with the expectation of those visiting for backpacking and hiking. If you are looking for a budget-friendly campground with extensive amenities, Pinney Bridge might not be the best choice. However, if you prioritize quiet, spacious sites and access to nature for activities like hiking and backpacking, and are okay with rustic amenities, the cost might be justifiable for the experience offered.

Pinney Bridge State Forest Campground Reviews
Very nice and quiet campground. Campsites are spaced out enough to were you really won't hear anyone. It's a bit of walk to get in but most people are here for backpacking/hiking in general so you shouldn't be shocked. Vaulted toilets are kept in good condition. Only complaint is that it is pretty pricey ($20/night) especially for what little the site has to offer.
Aug 29, 2024 · Ethan PuschellNice rustic campground. We backpacked in. Out houses were clean. Had trouble getting the water pump to prime. We were the first to get there and had our pick of the sites. It was quite all day and we were surprised that most of the sites were filled with as quite as it was
Jun 20, 2023 · Dan PokriefkaAn excellent place to camp and enjoy the out of doors with just a few simple comforts. When you arrive there will be a central notice board with some envelopes for you to slip cash payment into for your night's stay.In order to park your car at the nearby parking lots you will have needed to have purchsed a recreation pass, or you will need to being the additional money to buy a recreation pass.Fill out the form on the envelope to completion, insert your method of payment, and go to your chosen campsite.Site #3 was great, with some partial tree coverage. That helped because when we went in late August it rained quite a bit. The campsites are dirt/sand and there are restrooms nearby the central notice board, along with potable water, as well as a few trash cans.If you are hiking in make sure to get an early start, as the 18 mile loop, no matter which way you come (couter-clockwise is preferred) will take up several hours to travel over.
