Lakes of the North Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Mancelona, Michigan area seeking a family-oriented camping experience within the "camping near me" category, Lakes of the North Campground, located at 10452 Ponderosa Dr, Mancelona, MI 49659, USA, presents a compelling option. This campground can be contacted by phone at (231) 585-6828 or mobile at +1 231-585-6828. Based on the available customer reviews, Lakes of the North Campground offers a range of amenities and activities particularly appealing to families with children, although one review highlights a potential issue with accessing the lakes for non-campground guests.
The environment of Lakes of the North Campground is implied to include access to lakes, given its name and the initial negative review concerning lake access for non-campers. The presence of lakes suggests opportunities for water-based activities such as swimming, fishing, and possibly boating, although the specifics of lake access for campers and the availability of related facilities (like docks or boat launches) are not detailed. The positive review does not explicitly describe the natural setting beyond its suitability for playgrounds and activities, so local users interested in the specific environment (e.g., wooded areas, proximity of campsites to the lake) may need to inquire directly.
The services at Lakes of the North Campground appear to be geared towards enhancing the camping experience, especially for families. One positive review specifically mentions "excellent staff," which is a crucial aspect of any service-oriented business, including campgrounds. Friendly and helpful staff can significantly contribute to a positive and stress-free camping trip. The same reviewer also highlights the availability of "all the playgrounds and activities for the kids," indicating that the campground is well-equipped to entertain children of various ages. This focus on kid-friendly amenities makes it an attractive option for families looking for a destination where their children will have plenty to do.
A unique service mentioned is the availability of "lots of bikes to use," which the reviewer points out reduces the need to bring personal bicycles. This is a significant convenience for local families who might otherwise have to transport bikes. The inclusion of bikes as a provided amenity suggests a focus on facilitating outdoor recreation within the campground. The positive review also lists "put-put, horse shoes, basketball court" as some of the activities available, indicating a variety of recreational options for both children and adults to enjoy during their stay.
However, the negative review raises a point of concern regarding access to the lakes for individuals not staying at the campground. The reviewer recounts an aggressive interaction with a staff member when trying to obtain a day parking ticket to enjoy the lakes, being told a sponsor (presumably a registered camper) was required. The reviewer also mentions difficulties in contacting the campground prior to this encounter. While this review pertains to lake access for non-campers, it does highlight a potentially rigid policy and a negative customer service interaction. Local users planning to have visitors or who might be interested in accessing the lakes independently should be aware of this reported policy.
The features of Lakes of the North Campground seem to center around its family-friendly amenities and recreational opportunities. The playgrounds are a significant feature for families with young children, providing dedicated spaces for play and interaction. The availability of bikes to use within the campground encourages exploration and physical activity without the hassle of transporting personal bikes. The inclusion of a put-put course, horseshoe pits, and a basketball court offers a variety of engaging activities for campers of all ages, ensuring there are ways to occupy their time and enjoy some friendly competition.
The potential access to lakes is another key feature, although the specifics are not fully detailed. If campers have easy and direct access to the lakes for swimming, fishing, or other water activities, this would be a major draw, especially during the warmer months. Local users should inquire about the proximity of campsites to the lakes, any designated swimming areas, and rules regarding water activities.
The positive review's mention of "excellent staff" suggests that customer service is generally a strength of the campground, potentially contrasting with the negative experience of the individual trying to obtain a day parking ticket. It's important for local users to consider that individual experiences can vary.
Currently, no specific promotional information is provided in the reviews. Local users interested in any discounts for local residents, family packages, or seasonal specials should contact Lakes of the North Campground directly. Many campgrounds offer deals to attract visitors, especially during the shoulder seasons or for longer stays, so it's worth inquiring about any current promotions.
In conclusion, Lakes of the North Campground in Mancelona, MI, appears to be a great option for local families seeking a "camping near me" experience with a focus on kid-friendly activities and recreational amenities. The availability of playgrounds, bikes for use, put-put, horseshoes, and a basketball court offers plenty to keep families entertained. While lake access is implied by the name, local users should inquire about the specifics for campers. One review raises a concern about lake access for non-campers and a negative customer service interaction in that context, which is worth noting. However, the positive review praises the excellent staff. Local residents planning a family camping trip in the Mancelona area should contact Lakes of the North Campground directly to get more details about their facilities, lake access for campers, pricing, and any current promotions to see if it's the perfect fit for their needs.

Lakes of the North Campground Reviews
Staying in this area for a week, so called to get a parking ticket for the day to enjoy the lakes. The woman who answered the phone aggressively told us we needed a sponsor to get a ticket since we aren’t staying at the campground. Tried to explain to her my sponsor and I have been calling for the last 2 days and no answer or call back after we left many messages. This employee was very rude to me saying “someone has been at the desk all week so tell the sponsor to call again and hung up on me.” After this encounter I will not be visiting this lake.
Jun 27, 2024 · EmerlyGreat campground with excellent staff. All the playgrounds and activities for the kids helps them enjoy it even more. There are lots of bikes to use so it makes for much less things to lug with you. Put-out, horse shoes, basketball court are just some of the thingsto occupy your time.
Jun 23, 2023 · AdamFirst off, I'm new to camping, so I was hoping to meet some nice people and I've not been disappointed. Everyone we've met from fellow campers to the AMAZING campground managers, have been so kind and helpful. Honestly, very nice people. I couldn't be happier with my choice to buy property in Lakes of The North, and then deciding to utilize and enjoy the campground while starting to build. If you're thinking of visiting this campground for a weekend or even longer like we are, I very highly recommend it, and I hope to meet you.
