Batona Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around Tabernacle, New Jersey, who are searching for "camping near me," Batona Campground, located in Tabernacle, NJ 08088, USA, presents a potential option for an outdoor experience, particularly for those interested in accessing the renowned Batona Trail and the surrounding natural attractions of the New Jersey Pinelands. When utilizing platforms that categorize "camping near me," this address serves as a local point of interest for those seeking campgrounds in the southern part of New Jersey, known for its unique ecosystem and recreational opportunities.
Based on the limited information available, which includes the campground's name, address, phone numbers ((609) 561-0024 and +1 609-561-0024), and two customer reviews, an objective introduction to Batona Campground requires a careful examination of the provided feedback to offer a balanced perspective for local users considering this location.
One reviewer described Batona Campground as a "Great, quick spot off season." This suggests that the campground might be particularly appealing for short stays, especially during the less crowded off-season. However, this positive initial impression was tempered by the observation that "Sites are small" and that there are "NO picnic tables, only fire rings." This information is crucial for potential campers to consider, as it indicates a more primitive camping setup where they would need to bring their own tables and be prepared for potentially limited space at their chosen site. The absence of picnic tables might influence meal preparation and overall campsite organization.
The second reviewer, who had "Passed thru here several times when I hiked on Batona Trail," offered a generally positive impression, stating that the campground "Seems nice." This suggests that the overall ambiance and setting of Batona Campground are aesthetically pleasing to those exploring the area. The reviewer specifically highlighted the "pump well," indicating a source of water, which is a significant feature for any campground, especially those catering to hikers and potentially more self-sufficient campers. The enjoyment of "watching people riding beautiful horse gracefully" suggests that horseback riding is a common activity in the vicinity, and potentially accessible from or near the campground. This could be a significant draw for equestrian enthusiasts.
Furthermore, this reviewer emphasized the campground's strategic location for accessing the extensive trail network of the Pinelands, noting, "From here you can hike to almost everywhere thru the trail, with Apple Pie Hill Fire Tower just miles away, and lots of crystal-clear lakes!" This highlights a major feature of Batona Campground: its prime location for outdoor adventure. The proximity to the Batona Trail, a 53.5-mile long-distance hiking trail that winds through the Pinelands, makes it an ideal basecamp for hikers. The mention of Apple Pie Hill Fire Tower, a well-known landmark offering panoramic views of the Pinelands, and numerous "crystal-clear lakes" indicates the rich natural environment surrounding the campground, offering opportunities for exploration, scenic vistas, and possibly water-based activities.
However, the second reviewer also included a crucial warning: "But be careful not to get your truck/car stuck in the deep sand right past the camp site." This suggests that the terrain immediately adjacent to the campground might present a challenge for vehicles, indicating the sandy soil characteristic of the Pinelands. Potential campers, especially those with heavier vehicles or those unfamiliar with sandy conditions, should take this warning seriously and exercise caution when navigating areas near the campsite.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Batona Campground appears to be natural and well-suited for those interested in exploring the New Jersey Pinelands, particularly hikers and possibly those with horses. The presence of a pump well suggests a basic level of service for water access. However, the small site sizes and the lack of picnic tables indicate a more rustic or primitive camping experience. The proximity to the Batona Trail, Apple Pie Hill, and nearby lakes are significant features for outdoor enthusiasts. The warning about deep sand highlights a potential environmental factor to be aware of when accessing or moving around the campground area.
The limited information does not provide details about other potential services or features such as restrooms, showers, fire regulations beyond the presence of fire rings, or specific campsite amenities. Local users interested in these details would need to contact Batona Campground directly using the provided phone numbers: (609) 561-0024 or +1 609-561-0024. Direct inquiry would also be the best way to ascertain site availability, pricing, and any specific regulations or recommendations for camping at this location, especially regarding the sandy conditions mentioned in the review.
Similarly, no information regarding promotional offers or special deals at Batona Campground is available in the provided data. It is possible that the campground offers off-season rates, given the positive mention of an "off season" visit, or other promotions to attract visitors. Local users should inquire directly about any such offers when contacting the campground.
In conclusion, Batona Campground in Tabernacle, NJ, offers a potentially convenient and well-located option for local users seeking "camping near me," particularly those interested in hiking the Batona Trail and exploring the natural attractions of the Pinelands, such as Apple Pie Hill and nearby lakes. The environment seems natural and appealing to outdoor enthusiasts. However, potential campers should be aware that the campsites are reported to be small and lack picnic tables, with only fire rings provided, suggesting a more primitive camping experience. Additionally, caution should be exercised regarding deep sand in the area surrounding the campsite. For more detailed information about services, features, and any promotional offers, local users are advised to contact Batona Campground directly using the provided phone numbers.

Feb 24, 2020 · Angela Z-FraceWent camping here for the weekend. It was great but hard to find the camp site as most of the sites were not labeled. Great hiking!
Sep 13, 2022 · Alex Leadbetter (Ally or Alex)If you like to be out in nature, then this is for you. No electricity but there is an outhouse and a well. (Not for showering or cleaning of cookwares) 3$ a night is crazy cheap! Barely get a cup of coffee for that. They will want you to go to the main office first, but ask for the sales number and keep a screenshot of your payment and you won't have to go out of your way first. Super quiet and tons of trails to explore. Nixon is 5 miles up the road. A great conveint store with good food. Enjoy!
