Beaver Lake Campground Introduce
For local users searching the "camping near me" category and considering a stay in Dexter, Iowa, Beaver Lake Campground, located at 35335 Del Rio Rd, Dexter, IA 50070, USA, presents a camping option. However, recent feedback from visitors provides a nuanced picture of the campground, highlighting both potential positives and significant drawbacks that local users should carefully consider before making a reservation. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the available reviews to help local campers make an informed decision.
In terms of the environment, Beaver Lake Campground does offer some potentially appealing aspects. One reviewer noted "lots of green grass and many tall trees," suggesting a setting with ample shade and a pleasant, grassy landscape. This could be attractive to local users seeking a natural environment with greenery. The mention of "Beaver Lake" in the name implies proximity to a lake, although the reviews do not provide details about lake access, activities, or scenic views of the lake itself from the campground. Local users interested in lakeside camping would need to inquire specifically about the lake's accessibility and any related amenities.
Regarding services and amenities, the reviews provide some specific details, though often with negative connotations. The campground offers electric service, but at least in one area, it is limited to 30 amp only. One reviewer who paid $32.10 for a single night with electric and water found it "OVER-PRICED!!!" This suggests that the cost might be a significant factor for local users on a budget. Water hookups are also available, but one reviewer reported a leaking spigot described as a "water fall," indicating potential issues with the maintenance of the water infrastructure. The availability of "pull-thru" sites that are "just long enough" for a Class-A RV and the campground being "big rig friendly" could be a positive for local RV owners looking for easy access and maneuverability.
The interior roads of Beaver Lake Campground are reported to be "all gravel," which could be a consideration for those concerned about dust or the condition of gravel roads. The bathrooms and showers are described as "dated but functional," suggesting that while basic hygiene needs might be met, the facilities are not modern or well-maintained. One reviewer noted a plugged-up toilet in the men's bathroom, further indicating potential maintenance issues. These aspects of the services and amenities might be a significant concern for local users who prioritize well-maintained facilities.
One of the most concerning aspects highlighted in the reviews is the presence of "3 different homeless campers," which one reviewer found "very interesting" and even considered calling the sheriff about. This suggests a potential lack of oversight or security within the campground, which could be a serious safety concern for local users, especially families. The same reviewer also mentioned "loud music, heavy drinking, and challenging conversation" from some campers, indicating a potentially disruptive and uncomfortable atmosphere. Additionally, the issue of "several dogs ran loose within the campground," including one belonging to a homeless individual, raises concerns about pet control and safety for other campers.
Another reviewer echoed concerns about the lack of a quiet atmosphere, stating that if you're looking for a "quiet little campground that doesn't cost a whole lot of money this place might be for you" – implying that Beaver Lake Campground might not fit that description despite the price paid. The experience of having the 30 amp breaker trip multiple times and needing to move the power cord to another lot's service further indicates potential issues with the electrical infrastructure and site maintenance. The observation that "several full-timers spilled over into other sites" suggests potential overcrowding or a lack of clear site boundaries and management.
For local users with young children, one reviewer noted that there is "not much for them to do here" and advised bringing their own entertainment. This lack of dedicated recreational facilities for children could be a significant drawback for families considering Beaver Lake Campground for a local getaway.
Based on the provided reviews, there is no mention of any promotional information or special offers for Beaver Lake Campground. The pricing of $32.10 for a night with limited hookups was considered overpriced by one visitor, so local users should carefully consider the value proposition based on the reported conditions and amenities.
In conclusion, while Beaver Lake Campground in Dexter, Iowa, might offer a grassy environment with mature trees and pull-thru RV sites, the recent reviews raise significant concerns that local users in the "camping near me" category should be aware of. These concerns include potentially high pricing for limited amenities, issues with the maintenance of electrical and water hookups, dated and poorly maintained bathroom facilities, a lack of quiet atmosphere, and potential safety issues related to long-term residents and loose animals. The absence of recreational facilities for children is another factor for families to consider. Local users are strongly advised to contact Beaver Lake Campground directly at (515) 789-4661 or +1 515-789-4661 to inquire about the current conditions, pricing, policies, and any recent improvements or changes before making a reservation. It would also be prudent to seek alternative local campgrounds with more positive and consistent reviews to ensure a safe and enjoyable camping experience near Dexter, Iowa.

Beaver Lake Campground Reviews
Spent 1 night at Beaver Lake Campground at $32.10 for electric (30amp only) & water only (20 PSI). NEVER AGAIN!!! OVER-PRICED!!! The 3 different homeless campers made for a very interesting night. (I should have called the sheriff) 1 slept in his car, another in a utility trailer with no windows and the tenters were the best. Loud music, heavy drinking, and challenging conversation. Several dogs ran loose within the campground (1 dog belonged to the homeless) The campground is 1 ½ miles north of town on a very, very dusty gravel road. The first electrical pedestal I connected to had a ground fault, the water spigot leaked like a water fall and the sites while mostly level have not been cared for in some time. Several full-timers spilled over into other sites. All the sites are pull-thru, just long enough for our class-A and the park is big rig friendly. The interior roads are all gravel. The bathrooms/showers are dated but functional. There is lots of green grass and many tall trees.
Jun 14, 2022 · David RhodesIf you're looking for a quiet little campground that doesn't cost a whole lot of money this place might be for you but after checking in hooking up to their 30 amp service and had the breaker trip four times had to power cord to the next lot power service, the bathrooms weren't maintained very well on the men's bathroom Toilet was plugged up and if you have young kids not much for them to do here. Make sure you bring things for them to do.
Aug 03, 2023 · James NardinWe had a reservation for this weekend (Labor Day) when one of party arrived the campground was found to be a place we didn't want to camp in. Several campers apparently are long term residents. Nothing wrong with long term camping. The conditions of these sites however are not campground friendly. The playground area was not mowed or taken care of. Dogs running at large. All things we find not appealing. We did not even stay. This at one time was a really nice campground that has gone down hill. It's in a beautiful location sad to see the condition of the place. Please check other reviews. IF the owner happens to see these reviews please take them into consideration. We really enjoyed the campground in the past and would like to see it return to how it was before. You are sitting on a beautiful piece of property and with so many people wishing to camp and needing places to go a little spit and polish you would be booked every weekend.
Aug 31, 2024 · Linda HepworthBeaver lake campground was decent. We were just passing through looking for camping last minute. we stopped at the KOA and there wasn't anyone at the office. The campground at this particular KOA was packed with very small lots. we then called beaver lake and the man was very friendly, he took us right back to the campground, let us pick our own spot. it's very quiet, full hookup, the camp dog was really sweet! It came and visited a few times throughout the night. There is also a small playground. The biggest con is the bathroom. granted most campgrounds don't have bathrooms especially ones that flush but it's pretty dirty here.
May 11, 2024 · Helena SunderlandNo frills, just great quiet campground. Small, maybe 15 sites with 3 full while we were there.
