Island Park Campground Introduce
Looking for a promising "camping near me" experience in Adel, Iowa? Consider Island Park Campground, located at 2400 Nantucket Rd, Adel, IA 50003, USA. Recent reviews indicate a significant positive transformation at this campground, making it a potentially excellent choice for local users seeking a well-maintained and enjoyable outdoor stay. While past experiences may have presented challenges, new management is actively turning Island Park Campground into a highly recommended destination.
One recent review highlights a stark contrast to previous conditions, stating that "very nice people took it over recently and are turning it around." This suggests a significant change in management and a renewed focus on improving the campground experience. The reviewer notes that the park is "already very well maintained" and that previous issues have been "cleaned out." This positive shift is crucial for local users who may have hesitated based on older perceptions. The ease of access to the campground is also mentioned as a benefit.
The campsites themselves are described as "well spaced, level, and clean," which are essential factors for a comfortable camping experience, whether in a tent or an RV. The availability of water and electric hookups at "nearly all" sites is a significant convenience for RV travelers. The reviewer confirmed the presence of at least 30-amp electrical service, and their assessment suggests that even the "biggest of rigs would have no problem getting in," indicating spacious and accessible sites capable of accommodating large recreational vehicles. The campground offers a mix of pull-through and back-in sites, with most being very large, providing flexibility for different types of camping setups.
Beyond the individual campsites, Island Park Campground boasts appealing environmental features. The presence of "very nice fields" and "trails" suggests opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as walking, picnicking, and enjoying the natural surroundings. For families, a "playground for kids" is a valuable amenity. A significant highlight is the campground's location "right on the river," offering potential for scenic views, fishing, or other water-related activities, although specific details about river access and regulations are not provided.
The essential facilities at Island Park Campground also receive positive feedback. The "bathroom and shower house is very clean and nice," addressing a key concern for many campers. Additionally, a "dump station" is available for RV users and includes a "full rinse hose," which is a convenient and appreciated feature. These comments indicate that the new management is prioritizing cleanliness and functionality of the campground's infrastructure.
Despite the positive improvements, one area noted for needing attention is the city-managed website, which the reviewer states "fails completely." This lack of an effective online presence means that potential visitors may not find comprehensive information online. Notably, the reviewer points out that "they do take phone reservations but don’t publish that online or indicate reserved sites." Therefore, local users are strongly advised to "call before going, or at least before parking" to inquire about availability and make reservations.
In terms of pricing, the reviewer mentions a very reasonable rate of "$23-$25 night." This affordability, combined with the positive improvements and amenities, makes Island Park Campground an attractive option for budget-conscious local campers. The reviewer concludes by "highly recommend for a quick overnight, or longer," further solidifying its appeal for various trip lengths.
The surrounding area of Adel also adds to the campground's appeal. The reviewer mentions a "cute town a short walk away" that offers a "great ice cream shop and much more," suggesting that campers have easy access to local amenities and attractions. This walkability to the town enhances the overall camping experience by providing opportunities for exploration and local flavor.
Considering the recent positive changes and the features highlighted in the review, Island Park Campground offers a promising environment and a range of services for local users seeking "camping near me." The riverfront location, spacious and well-equipped sites, clean facilities, and proximity to the town of Adel make it an appealing destination. While the online information may be lacking, the recommendation to call ahead for reservations is crucial. The affordable pricing further adds to its value. Local residents who may have overlooked this campground in the past due to previous issues should take note of the positive turnaround and consider Island Park Campground for their next camping adventure.
In conclusion, Island Park Campground in Adel, Iowa, is undergoing a significant revitalization under new management, resulting in a well-maintained campground with spacious, level, and clean sites offering water and electric hookups. Its location right on the river, along with amenities like clean bathrooms and a playground, makes it suitable for individuals and families. The affordability and proximity to the charming town of Adel are additional benefits. Local users are strongly encouraged to call (515) 993-4525 or +1 515-993-4525 to make reservations and experience the positive changes at Island Park Campground for themselves.

Island Park Campground Reviews
The campground was taken over by sketchy people. They were cussing when they noticed my wife and I were there. There were nails everywhere and the police circled the park 4 different times. It was a nice place besides the other campers there. Sorry but we were definitely discriminated against by the other regular campers there. Bathrooms were clean.
Apr 20, 2025 · Yungclas FamilyVery nice people took it over recently and are turning it around. It’s already very well maintained and the problems that apparently used to plague it are cleaned out. Very easy access, sites are well spaced, level, and clean. Water and electric at (nearly?) all. I had 30amps and assume all are at least that. Biggest of rigs would have no problem getting in. Some pull through, most back in, but very large. Very nice fields, trails, and playground for kids. Great location right on the river. Bathroom and shower house is very clean and nice. Dump station included and has full rinse hose. The city still manages the website and fails completely. Prices are $23-$25 night. Do call before going, or at least before parking, because they do take phone reservations but don’t publish that online or indicate reserved sites. Highly recommend for a quick overnight, or longer. Cute town a short walk away with a great ice cream shop and much more
