Winterset City Campground Introduce
For those residing in or near Winterset, Iowa, and searching for a convenient and accessible "camping near me" option, Winterset City Campground presents an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors within a well-regarded city park setting. Located at 225 S 10th St, Winterset, IA 50273, USA, this campground offers a range of amenities and site types to accommodate various camping preferences. You can easily reach the campground for inquiries or reservations by calling (515) 462-3258 or +1 515-462-3258.
One of the key features of Winterset City Campground, as highlighted by visitor feedback, is its beautiful location within a city park. This setting likely provides a blend of natural beauty and accessibility, potentially offering well-maintained grounds and a pleasant environment for campers. The convenience of being located within a city park can also mean easy access to other park amenities, although specific details about these are not provided in the reviews.
The campground offers a significant number of level gravel RV sites, with one reviewer mentioning 40 such sites. This suggests ample space for RV travelers, and the fact that most of these sites are equipped with full hookups is a significant advantage. Full hookups typically include water, electricity, and sewer connections, providing a comfortable and convenient experience for RV campers. For those searching for "camping near me" with RV amenities, the availability of level gravel sites with full hookups at Winterset City Campground is a definite plus.
In addition to RV sites, Winterset City Campground also accommodates tent campers with a few designated tent sites. This makes it a versatile option within the "camping near me" category, catering to both RV and tent camping enthusiasts. The combination of site types allows for a broader range of outdoor experiences.
The presence of restrooms is also noted as a positive aspect by one reviewer. Clean and accessible restrooms are a fundamental amenity for any campground, contributing to the overall comfort and convenience of the camping experience. The ease of reservation over the phone, coupled with helpful and polite service, as mentioned in a review, further enhances the initial impression and accessibility of Winterset City Campground.
However, it's important to consider all feedback to provide an objective introduction. One review raised significant concerns regarding the cleanliness and setup of the men's bathroom. The description of a malfunctioning and unsanitary toilet in the handicap stall, along with the general state of the floor, paints a concerning picture regarding the maintenance and hygiene of this facility. The reviewer explicitly stated that the bathrooms should be checked and cleaned daily and that they did not appear to have been adequately maintained.
Adding to the concerns about the bathroom facilities, the same reviewer described the shower setup as reminiscent of a "1950's locker room," featuring two shower spaces with a common dressing and undressing area. Both the reviewer and their wife, who experienced the women's bathroom with a similar setup, expressed dissatisfaction with this arrangement and suggested the need for separate, complete showers for privacy and convenience. This feedback highlights a potential area for improvement in the campground's amenities.
While the beautiful grounds and sites are acknowledged, the negative feedback regarding the bathroom conditions is a critical point for potential local users to consider when searching for "camping near me." The discrepancy between the positive aspects of the physical environment and the negative experience with the restroom facilities suggests a potential inconsistency in the overall quality of the campground.
For local users considering Winterset City Campground, it would be prudent to weigh the positive aspects, such as the beautiful city park setting, level gravel RV sites with mostly full hookups, and the availability of tent sites, against the reported issues with the cleanliness and layout of the bathroom facilities. The ease of reservation and the helpfulness of the staff over the phone are also positive indicators of the management's accessibility.
Given the feedback, it appears that Winterset City Campground offers a potentially pleasant outdoor experience in a convenient location for local users seeking "camping near me." The availability of full hookups for RVs is a significant draw, and the inclusion of tent sites broadens its appeal. However, the reported issues with the cleanliness and design of the bathroom facilities are important considerations. Potential campers may want to inquire about the current state of these facilities before making a reservation.
In conclusion, Winterset City Campground provides a locally accessible camping option within a beautiful city park, offering level gravel RV sites with mostly full hookups and a few tent sites. The reservation process is reported to be easy, with helpful staff. However, potential visitors should be aware of the concerns raised regarding the cleanliness and layout of the bathroom facilities, as these appear to be areas that may impact the overall camping experience. While no specific promotional information is available, the campground's location and amenities within the "camping near me" category make it a viable option for local outdoor enthusiasts, provided that the concerns about the restrooms are addressed or are acceptable to individual campers.

Winterset City Campground Reviews
Beautiful city park 40 level gravel RV sites most with full hookups, along with a few tent sites. Restrooms are a plus. Easy reservation over the phone, very helpful and polite.
Apr 22, 2025 · Keith ConleyBeautiful ground and sites, but men's bathroom was horrible. The toilet in the handicap stall looked like it plugged and ran over days before, as toilet paper was glued to the floor. As there was a floor drain under the divider to the adjoining toilet the floor there was disgusting too. These bathrooms should be checked and cleaned daily. Didn't look like they had been. There were two shower spaces with a common dressing(and undressing) space. Thought I was back in a 1950's locker room. Make separate complete showers!!! My wife said the women's bath was set up the same. Seriously?!?!
May 01, 2025 · DENNY and CARRIE JOHNSONThis is a beautiful park and well worth a visit, the Maze is aMAZIng, with the sundial in the middle. The area is well manicured, clean, and tranquil. There are tree stump carvings through out the park. The only downside is the park is not very HCA. The trail to Clark tower is a very rough gravel road, the paved road around the park does not have HCA ramps and one side of the Covered Bridge is inaccessible to those in chairs, we needed to go to the far side of the bridge to get in, and both sideswalks end at the bridge. Both pedestrians and vehicle traffic uses the same path around the park. Other than that it's a good place to visit.
Jul 17, 2022 · Nobody SpecialVery convenient access off highway 92 and very easy backin gravel sites with a few pull through...full hookups are available, good water pressure and feels like soft water. Public city park across road with kids play area. Dog Park just down the road.
Aug 08, 2022 · StanWe will now compare all municipal campgrounds to this phenomenal retreat! We were somehow blessed enough to get site 27. All sites are gravel and ours was level. We were close to the bath house but do not use one, as we are totally self contained. We understand that a camper just prior to us complained about the power tower. All I can say is that this tower kept all 3 of our air conditioners running along with the rest of the 40 ft motorcoach. Being certified RV techs, we can tell right away if something is wrong with power to the coach. This was not the case for the week we stayed here. The camp host was always nice and accommodating, especially when asked to pick up some “road kill” in the middle of the campground entry road 👏.Now let’s talk about the entire park…this city park is meticulously manicured and clean! So much to do right within walking distance. First is the covered bridge and stone walkway. Then there are the ash trees that had died, instead of grinding down the stumps they brought in a talented wood carver to create beauty from ashes. The bunny & butterfly is my favorite. The local Rotary club has created a hedge maze that is so cool! So many beautiful day use facilities and last but not least is the trail up to the Clark tower. If you have the opportunity, stay for at least 3-5 days @ $22 a night with FHU, it can’t be beat! Now please allow me to address the beautiful little town of Winterset. All within walking distance from the campground the phenomenal town square has everything to make your heart happy and leave you with nothing but beautiful memories! We came for the John Wayne Museum. But the Ben Franklin and the Rexall Drugs (and their soda fountain grill) will take anyone older than 50 back to their childhood days. Oh! And the Iowa theater, if you can catch a movie while you’re there, do so! It is so cute and quaint. I made it a point to go into every storefront to see what kind of treasures I could find. What I found were the people of Winterset are the true treasure! The Madison County Historical complex is a must see, especially if you like to ring big bells. 😁If you are out for an amazing vacation, put Winterset at the top of your list!I forget to mention the 6 covered bridges of Madison county and all the wonderful parks and trails we hiked while we were here.We attended services at New Bridge Church, more wonderful people, spiritual worship and great message. We won’t say goodbye to Winterset, but see ya later ~ True Americana!
