Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Indianola, Iowa area, Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground, located at 7CW5+9H, Indianola, IA 50125, USA, has received some critical feedback from recent visitors. You can contact them at (515) 961-7101 or +1 515-961-7101. Based on the reviews, it's important to be aware that some visitors feel this location is more accurately described as an RV park rather than a traditional campground, and there have been concerns raised about the facilities and pricing.
Environment: Perceived as a "Concrete Jungle"
One of the stark descriptions of the environment at Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground is that it's a "concrete jungle." This strongly suggests that the camping areas are heavily paved, lacking the natural, grassy, or wooded settings often associated with campgrounds. This could be a significant disappointment for those seeking a more traditional outdoor camping experience close to nature. While the name includes "Lake Ahquabi State Park," the immediate camping environment, according to this review, does not reflect a natural park-like setting. Another reviewer echoed this sentiment by stating it is advertised as a campground but is, in their experience, an RV park. This characterization of the environment is a crucial point for potential visitors to consider, especially if they are looking for a more rustic or natural "camping near me" option.
Services and Amenities: "Pretty Gross" Bathrooms and RV Focus
The services and amenities at Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground have also been a point of criticism in the provided reviews. One camper described the "bathrooms" as "pretty gross for the cost of staying here." This suggests that the hygiene and upkeep of the restroom facilities may not meet the expectations of the price charged. Furthermore, the assertion that this is primarily an RV park implies that the services are likely geared towards RVs, such as hookups for water, electricity, and sewer. One reviewer who was biking and camping mentioned having to pay a significant amount of money for an RV hookup spot, which they found to be a shame. This indicates a potential lack of suitable or fairly priced options for those who are not RVers. The limited mention of amenities beyond RV hookups and the negative comment about the bathrooms suggest that the facilities might be basic or not well-maintained relative to the cost.
Features and Activities: Limited for Non-RV Campers, One Youth Group Spot
The features and activities at Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground, based on the reviews, seem somewhat limited, particularly for those not in RVs. One reviewer pointed out that "One camp spot is available only for organised youth groups," highlighting a scarcity of options for other types of campers. This further reinforces the idea that the primary focus is on accommodating RVs. For those looking to engage in typical campground activities like tent camping in a natural setting, hiking directly from their site, or enjoying communal recreational areas, the description as a "concrete jungle" and the lack of mention of such features suggest they might be absent or less emphasized. While the proximity to Lake Ahquabi itself might offer opportunities for water-related activities, the reviews focus more on the nature of the campground facilities rather than the broader state park amenities.
Promotional Information: Proceed with Caution, Consider Alternatives
For local users seeking "camping near me" in Indianola, IA, the reviews for Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground suggest a need for caution and consideration of alternatives. The description as more of an RV park with a "concrete jungle" environment and "pretty gross" bathrooms might deter those looking for a traditional campground experience. The pricing, especially for non-RV campers who might be forced to pay for RV hookup spots, has also been criticized. One reviewer even advises to "Save your money and get a hotel in Indianola," calling it "one of the worst campgrounds in the state." Given this feedback, if you are looking for a natural camping environment with well-maintained facilities, Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground, based on these reviews, may not meet your expectations. It would be wise to explore other options for "camping near me" in the area that might offer a more traditional and satisfactory camping experience, especially if you are not traveling in an RV. If you are an RVer, the availability of hookups might be a draw, but the concerns about the overall quality and cleanliness should still be taken into account. It is recommended to seek further information or recent reviews from other sources before making a decision to stay here.

Lake Ahquabi State Park Campground Reviews
This "campground" is just an RV park. Rename is Aquabi KOA. It's a cross between a really cruddy KOA and a really cruddy campground. Bathrooms are pretty gross for the cost of staying here. It's a concrete jungle. Save your money and get a hotel in Indianola. This is one of the worst campgrounds in the state
May 01, 2025 · Lance HarrisAdvertised as a campground, but it is an RV park. One camp spot is available only for organised youth groups. Riding bikes in and camping, we had to pay $$$ for an RV hookup spot, which is a shame.
