Crossroads Ranch Campground and Cabins Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the vicinity of Lucas, Iowa, Crossroads Ranch Campground and Cabins, located at 50526 Hwy 65, Lucas, IA 50151, USA, presents itself as a potential option. With a listed phone number of (641) 217-1188 and a mobile number of +1 641-217-1188, it suggests a point of contact for inquiries and reservations. However, it's crucial for prospective campers to consider the mixed feedback received from recent visitors to make an informed decision.
The environment of Crossroads Ranch Campground and Cabins appears to be characterized by open spaces with limited natural shade, primarily found along the tree line. One reviewer noted that campers are "out in the sun all the time," which might be a consideration for those seeking cooler, shaded campsites, particularly during the warmer months. On the positive side, another camper with a 38' fifth wheel mentioned "plenty of room" and "great open spaces," suggesting that the campground can accommodate larger RVs comfortably without issues of low-hanging branches or tight maneuvering.
In terms of services and features, the information available presents a somewhat contrasting picture. One long-term seasonal camper reported issues with a full hook-up sewer line backing up, which took approximately six weeks to be resolved after multiple requests to the owner. This raises concerns about the responsiveness and maintenance of essential infrastructure. However, another reviewer specifically praised the "fantastic" showers, indicating that at least some of the facilities are well-maintained and appreciated by visitors. The availability of full hook-ups (water, electricity, and sewer) is implied for some sites, catering to the needs of RV campers.
One of the more significant features mentioned is the availability of seasonal sites, which suggests that the campground has catered to longer-term stays in the past. However, the experience of one seasonal camper was largely negative, citing a decline in the owner's involvement, leading to issues such as un-mowed grass and a proliferation of ticks. The presence of cows within the campground, leaving behind waste, was also a major concern raised. These issues point to potential inconsistencies in the upkeep and management of the property.
A particularly concerning feature reported was the owner's decision to close the campground for a weekend for a family reunion after collecting seasonal fees, effectively denying access to paying campers. This action was followed by confrontational behavior towards the seasonal campers who voiced concerns, including accusations of anonymous online postings. Furthermore, there were allegations of inconsistent rule enforcement, such as allowing one camper to have a golf cart while prohibiting others. These accounts paint a picture of potentially unreliable management and a lack of consistent standards.
On a more positive note, the reviewer who stayed with a 38' fifth wheel described the owner, Rob, as "very responsive." This suggests that interactions with the owner can be positive and helpful in some instances, particularly for short-term visitors. This contrasting feedback highlights the potential for variability in the guest experience depending on the nature and duration of the stay.
Promotional information is limited, but the fact that the campground offers both RV sites with hook-ups and cabin rentals suggests a dual focus to attract different types of campers. The positive mention of "plenty of room" and "great open spaces" could be seen as a promotional point for RV owners seeking spacious sites. Similarly, the praise for the "fantastic" showers might encourage those who value clean and modern facilities.
However, the negative experiences shared by the seasonal camper serve as a significant warning, particularly for those considering a longer-term commitment. The reported lack of maintenance, issues with essential services, inconsistent management, and the unexpected closure weekend are serious factors that potential campers should carefully consider. The reviewer explicitly advised others to "think about it" before getting a seasonal site there, highlighting the financial loss and unwelcome feeling experienced by their parents.
It is also important to note the information provided by the disgruntled seasonal camper that the owner stated the campground would be closing for good at the end of the 2023 camping season due to struggling occupancy. While this information is from a specific point in time, it raises questions about the current operational status and long-term viability of Crossroads Ranch Campground and Cabins. Local users considering this campground in the current year (2025) should verify its operational status and any changes in management or services.
In conclusion, Crossroads Ranch Campground and Cabins near Lucas, Iowa, offers the potential for spacious RV sites and cabin rentals in an open environment. The responsiveness of the owner was noted as a positive aspect by one reviewer, and the shower facilities were praised. However, significant concerns have been raised regarding the maintenance of the campground, the reliability of services like sewer hook-ups, inconsistent management practices, and a past announcement of a potential closure. Local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh these contrasting experiences carefully and are strongly advised to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about the current conditions, services, and operational status before making a reservation, especially for seasonal or longer stays. It would also be prudent to seek more recent reviews from other sources to get a broader perspective on the current state of the campground.

Crossroads Ranch Campground and Cabins Reviews
My parents had a seasonal site down here for 2 years. It was pretty dead most weekends they were there. Of 7-10 seasonal sites that were occupied, there was only 2-3 that were there on a regular basis. There isn't any shade there besides up by the tree line so you are out in the sun all the time. The first year wasn't too bad. They had some issues with their full hook up sewer backing up. Ended up the sewer pipe had broke and took about 6 weeks for the owner to finally get it fixed after they asked numerous times. The second year was when things went bad. The campground owner became less and less involved in the campground and it was showing. The grass wasn't mowed most weekends that my parents were there, so the ticks were horrible. There would be cows in the campground leaving huge piles of poop for you to step in. The owner decided that after he collected the money for the entire season, he was going to close down the campground for a weekend because " he was going to have a family reunion" there and didn't want to "deal" with the campground that weekend. The owner then became very confrontational after that weekend and started accusing my parents of posting anonymously on various FB groups saying it wasn't looking too good for them. He then was going to pick and choose which rules people had to follow by saying that he wasn't going to allow golf carts there, but another camper was allowed to have there golf cart there. He went on to say that at the end of the camping season in 2023, he was going to be closing the campground for good. It had been struggling both years that my parents had been there by the lack of campers there on any given weekend. The owner made my parents feel very unwelcome there and they packed up the very next weekend and pulled out the 3rd week in August. They had a very nice site and put in a lot of money to make their site nice. They had already been looking for a new campground to go to after this season anyways, just wanted to warn others so they don't get screwed over and loose out on money like my parents did.So if you are thinking of getting a seasonal site there, think about it.
Dec 26, 2023 · Brandon HouskaGreat place! We have a 38' fifth wheel. Plenty of room, no low limbs, great open spaces. The owner Rob is very responsive. The showers were fantastic! We will be back.
Sep 03, 2023 · Trent MillsThe owner is a great guy to work with. The bathroom/showers are unbelievable and cleanest ones I've been to. It's a nice peaceful rural setting. Nice sitting out under my awning having coffee and the light rain coming down. Will be staying here in the future. Thanks for everything.
