Nelson Ledges Quarry Park Introduce
For local residents seeking "camping near me" with a unique blend of natural beauty, adventurous exploration, and a lively atmosphere, Nelson Ledges Quarry Park, located at 12001 Nelson Ledge Rd, Garrettsville, OH 44231, USA, offers a compelling destination. You can reach them at (440) 548-2716 or their mobile number +1 440-548-2716 for inquiries and information. This park is not just a campground; it's an experience, known for its stunning quarry lake, intriguing cave systems, and as a vibrant venue for music festivals.
One reviewer describes Nelson Ledges Quarry Park as a "Beautiful park" with "lots of very cool caves to explore." This highlights a key feature for adventurous local users: the opportunity for cave exploration. However, the reviewer also provides important safety advice, noting that accessing these caves requires navigating "rather tricky" terrain, including climbing up and down steep rocks, crossing shallow streams, traversing some mud, and maneuvering through tree vines. Due to these conditions, cave exploration is not recommended for small children or for solo individuals unless they are very agile and confident in their abilities. Appropriate footwear, such as incline hiking shoes that can get muddy, is strongly advised for those wishing to venture into the cave areas.
The reviewer points out that the most interesting cave features are not far from the main path horizontally, making them relatively accessible for those comfortable with the required physical exertion. This suggests that even if you're not an experienced climber, the rewards of seeing these unique geological formations are within reach if you are prepared for some moderate scrambling.
In terms of basic facilities, the reviewer mentions the presence of two unisex, single-stall restrooms located at the parking lot. It's important to note that these are described as "basically permanent 'porta potties'" with no running water, only hand sanitizer available. This provides essential restroom access but highlights the somewhat rustic nature of the park's amenities in this area. The parking situation is noted as "very ample" for a park of its size, which is a practical benefit for visitors.
Another reviewer shares their experience attending a music festival at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park, offering a different perspective on what the location has to offer. They found the campsites to be "great! Nice & shady" and appreciated the cleanliness, with "port a johns everywhere" and "lots of trash cans around as well." This indicates that the park is well-equipped to handle larger crowds during events and provides basic camping comforts.
The helpfulness of the staff is also mentioned positively, suggesting a well-managed environment where assistance is readily available. A unique feature highlighted during the music festival experience is the presence of two stages, ensuring that "the music never stops!" This makes Nelson Ledges a potentially exciting destination for local music enthusiasts looking for a festival experience close to home.
The reviewer also raves about the "Beautiful swimming area" at the quarry. This is a significant attraction, offering a natural and picturesque place to cool off, especially during the warmer months. The presence of sand at the stage area further suggests that the quarry lake has a beach-like entrance, enhancing the swimming experience.
For thrill-seekers, the reviewer noted impressive cliffs around the swimming area, stating that they "looked really good" for cliff diving, although they did not personally participate. This indicates that the quarry features dramatic rock formations that add to its visual appeal and adventurous potential (though visitors should always prioritize safety and be aware of any park regulations regarding such activities).
Beyond the natural attractions and event facilities, the reviewer who attended the music festival also emphasized the positive social aspect, mentioning that they "Met some really wonderful people!" and that it "Was a blast!!!" This suggests that Nelson Ledges Quarry Park can be a place to connect with others and enjoy a vibrant community atmosphere, particularly during organized events.
The enthusiastic closing remark, "Looking forward to going back again!!!" from the music festival attendee, speaks volumes about the positive and memorable experiences that Nelson Ledges Quarry Park can offer.
Combining the two reviews, Nelson Ledges Quarry Park emerges as a multifaceted destination for local "camping near me" seekers. It offers the natural beauty and adventurous exploration of caves and a stunning quarry lake, alongside the vibrant and social atmosphere of music festivals. The environment is characterized by rocky terrain, wooded areas providing shade for campsites, and the unique geological formations of the quarry itself.
Services and features include campsites (described as shady and well-maintained during events), portable restrooms, ample parking, and a swimming area with sandy access and cliffs. During music festivals, the park features multiple stages and helpful staff. For cave exploration, appropriate footwear and caution are essential, and it's not recommended for young children or solo inexperienced individuals.

Its beautiful quarry lake provides opportunities for swimming and scenic enjoyment, while its caves offer adventurous exploration for those physically capable. The park also serves as a lively venue for music festivals, creating a dynamic and engaging atmosphere. Nelson Ledges Quarry Park Reviews
Beautiful park, lots of very cool caves to explore if you're able to do some climbing. Some of the terrain you'll need to cross to access the caves and caverns is rather tricky, and I would not recommend for small children, nor to explore them alone unless you're very agile and confident in your abilities. The coolest parts to see are not far from the main path, horizontally. But you need to be comfortable climbing up and down rocks, some very steep parts, over shallow streams, some mud, and tree vines. Wear appropriate shoes for incline hiking that you don't mind getting muddy. Overall, it was very much worth the effort in my opinion. There are two unisex, single stall restrooms at the parking lot. No running water, just hand sanitizer. Basically permanent "porta potties". Very ample parking for a relatively small park.

Met some really wonderful people! Was a blast!!! Looking forward to going back again!!!
Jul 21, 2024 · Patricia TedrickDON'T COME HERE IF YOU WILL BE MAD YOUR CHILD IS AROUND MARIJUANA! This is a "party" campground. I have been coming here since high school. It's beautiful. Tons of trails to hike. The lake is beautiful. It is very clean and the lifeguards take their job very seriously to make sure everyone is safe. Yes, there's a lot of people smoking weed, but most are very respectful about it. If you plan on camping here, don't expect a quiet park. There will be people playing music, partying, etc. I bring my 10 year old here and he loves it. They make children under 12 take a swimming test to go in the deep waters. Don't be mad at the lifeguards, this is for safety as the water gets very deep and there's lots of people there. There's lots of little shops to get food, clothes, etc. This is one of my favorite places to go so if you decide to go please respect the nature.
Jun 25, 2024 · AshleyThis is an amazing spot to go camping and see a concert. The old quarry, now a lake has crystal clear refreshing cold water. Perfect spot to cool down on a hot summer day. You can swim around listening to a band, which I thought was a really unique experience. Beach cold get a little over crowded, but if you take a raft or floaty you'll definitely find a little room out of the water. The life guards do a fantastic job protecting everyone too. Bonus tip, Take ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. The place can get a little loud with all the late night partying. Slight Nock is Staff could do a better job with assigning the campsites from people who want to just party and the people who would like to get some rest at night and actually enjoy the day. Lastly, this place actually has really good food vendors.
Jul 21, 2024 · Robert FerenceIf you want to attend a lowkey musical festival with the option to swim, hike, and more, this is the place. I've never visited on an "off" weekend or week day but I can imagine it's still a great time. There are some beautiful camp sites. The quarry/beach/jumping rock are magical.... and even better if you bring a kayak!I'd recommend that if you plan to bring kids and aren't OK with adults doing "bad things", go during the week.
