Bidwell Canyon Campground, located at 801 Bidwell Canyon Rd, Oroville, CA 95966, presents itself as a local option for those seeking an outdoor experience. Situated near Lake Oroville, this campground offers a range of amenities and features that cater to different camping preferences. You can reach them at (530) 538-2200 or +1 530-538-2200 for inquiries and reservations.
Based on recent customer reviews, the environment and atmosphere at Bidwell Canyon Campground appear to vary depending on the specific location within the campground and the time of year. One reviewer who stayed at "Big Pine Site number 52" described it as an "awesome spot," highlighting its seclusion, proximity to the water, and ample space. This suggests that certain sites within the campground offer a more private and spacious experience, ideal for those seeking a tranquil retreat. This particular site also benefited from having a table and fire pit, standard amenities across all sites according to this reviewer. Furthermore, the convenience of a nearby gas station and Dollar General for forgotten essentials like wood, charcoal, snacks, and ice was noted as a significant advantage.
However, this positive experience was contrasted by the reviewer's observation that sites in the middle of the campground are "very close together" with "almost no room for anything." This indicates a potential lack of privacy and personal space in certain areas of the campground, which might be a consideration for campers prioritizing seclusion. The reviewer also pointed out that while Lake Oroville offers opportunities for boating and fishing (with boat and kayak rentals available at the marina), it might not be ideal for swimming due to an unpleasant smell in the water.
Another reviewer's experience painted a different picture of the campground's overall atmosphere. This first-time visitor, who was part of a family gathering, described the experience as "definitely not my idea of relaxing camping." Despite acknowledging that the campground was full (indicating its popularity with some), they found it to be located in a residential area and characterized by a lack of peace and quiet. The reviewer mentioned sites being "very close together" and a noisy environment with people playing music loudly, talking and using profanity over the music, children fighting, crying, and throwing tantrums, and dogs barking. Additionally, they noted continuous motorcycle activity around the loop, which contributed to a "festival atmosphere" rather than a relaxing camping experience.
Despite the negative aspects, this second reviewer did acknowledge some positive features. The campground's proximity to the water and the "nice views" were mentioned as appealing aspects. Furthermore, the cleanliness and stocking of the bathrooms were commended, and the availability of showers (accessible via purchased tokens) was noted as a convenient service.
In terms of services and features, Bidwell Canyon Campground appears to offer a range of amenities. Some campsites are equipped with full hookups, including electricity, water, and sewer connections, catering to RV campers. However, the second reviewer pointed out that the daily cost of $45 (plus a $7.99 reservation fee and an additional $8/day for a second vehicle) remains the same even if these hookups are not utilized by tent campers. All sites reportedly include a table and a fire pit. Access to clean bathrooms and showers (for a fee via tokens) is also provided.
Based on the available information, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the reviews. Local users interested in potential discounts or special offers should contact the campground directly at the provided phone numbers. It is advisable to inquire about seasonal rates, multi-day stay discounts, or any other promotions that might be available.
In summary, Bidwell Canyon Campground offers a local camping option near Lake Oroville, providing waterfront access and amenities like boat and kayak rentals. However, potential campers should be aware that the experience can vary significantly depending on the campsite location and the overall occupancy of the campground. While some sites offer seclusion and a peaceful environment, others in the central area may be closer together and experience more noise. The campground provides essential services such as restrooms, showers (for a fee), and some sites with full RV hookups. The proximity to a gas station and a Dollar General adds convenience for campers needing to purchase supplies. For those seeking a quiet and secluded natural retreat, it might be prudent to specifically request sites like the "Big Pine Site" mentioned in the positive review and inquire about their availability. Conversely, those sensitive to noise and seeking a more traditional, peaceful camping experience might want to consider alternative options in the "camping near me" category.

Bidwell Canyon Campground Reviews
We stayed for 3 days at the Big Pine Site at number 52. It was an awesome spot, very secluded, and right next to the water, and had so much space. Stay away from the sites in the middle of the campground, they are very close together and have almost no room for anything. Every site has a table and fire pit. Theres also a gas station and dollar general very close by that has anything you could need if you forgot something. Wood, charcoal, snacks, ice, etc. The camp is very nice, quiet, and we almost never saw anyone, the camp was almost empty despite being end of June. I would say though that it’s not much of a swimming lake. More for boating or fishing. You can rent boats and kayaks at the marina. But the water smells awful, and will make you smell bad too if you swim in it 😭 Some of the sites also have full hookups for RVs and such, but we used it for blow up mattresses.
Jul 02, 2024 · Rayne CutchallFirst time here because meeting family & they picked it. Definitely not my idea of relaxing camping, but since the campground was full, others obviously like it. Campground in located in a residential area. Sites are very close together, very loud with people playing music & then talking/cussing over it. Kids fighting, crying & throwing tantrums. Dogs barking and people riding motorcycles continuously around loop giving rides. Felt more like a festival atmosphere. Cost is $45/day, plus $7.99 for placing reservation and that only includes 1 vehicle. You can have 1 additional vehicle for another $8/day. Sites include electricity, water and sewer, but no discount if you are not using it.With all that said, it is close to the water, nice views, bathrooms were kept clean and well stocked and showers are available to use by purchasing tokens.
Sep 03, 2023 · Ann NelsonAmazing place for the land to water experience if you have a houseboat or know someone who does. $45/night. Full campground wasn't open yet, in March
Mar 22, 2025 · Episodic N FilmsyNo firewood to buy at the Marina. People are ruse with kids there. Pretty place. Lake is full. Sad thing, no beach entry, unless you have a boat.
Jul 05, 2023 · Melissa SkillskyThis place was very relaxing! Bathrooms and showers were clean! This is an amazing camp ground! Pet friendly, kid friendly!!
