For local residents seeking a picturesque "camping near me" experience directly on the shores of Flathead Lake in Montana, Big Arm Campground presents an attractive option. Located at 45143 Big Arm State Pk Boat Launch, Big Arm, MT 59910, USA, and reachable at (406) 849-5256 or +1 406-849-5256, this campground offers a blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Situated within Big Arm State Park, it promises a rejuvenating escape into the heart of Montana's stunning landscapes.
The environment at Big Arm Campground is a key highlight, as emphasized by multiple reviewers. It is described as being "located on the serene shores of Flathead Lake," the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi in the contiguous United States. The presence of "towering pines" suggests a shaded and picturesque setting, contributing to a sense of tranquility and immersion in nature. The campground offers a "perfect blend of tranquility and adventure," appealing to those seeking both relaxation and outdoor activities. The campsites are designed to provide "a sense of privacy," allowing guests to feel secluded and connected with the natural surroundings. Furthermore, many sites offer "views of the lake and the surrounding mountains," enhancing the visual appeal and overall camping experience.
The services and features at Big Arm Campground cater to a variety of outdoor interests. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities directly accessible from the campground, including "swimming and fishing in the crystal-clear waters" of Flathead Lake. The lake is renowned for its clarity and offers opportunities for various water-based activities. Additionally, the campground provides access to "nearby trails that showcase the area's stunning landscapes," appealing to hikers and nature enthusiasts who wish to explore the surrounding terrain and enjoy panoramic views. One reviewer specifically praised their stay in the "Mission Yurt," highlighting it as "affordable and comfortable" with surprisingly "good beds!" This indicates that Big Arm Campground offers unique accommodation options beyond traditional campsites, providing a comfortable alternative for those seeking a glamping-style experience.
The helpfulness of the campground staff is also noted, with one reviewer mentioning "helpful camp hosts who made nightly rounds," suggesting a level of attentiveness and security within the campground. The availability of lakefront sites is another significant feature, as one reviewer mentioned that "our friends had awesome site on water," providing direct access and stunning views. The campground is also described as "one of the more private campgrounds," which can be a significant draw for those seeking a more secluded and intimate camping experience.
However, some drawbacks were also mentioned by a reviewer, providing a balanced perspective. One significant concern was that "fishing licenses were very expensive," which unfortunately deterred the reviewer's husband from fishing with their son. This is an important piece of information for those planning to fish in Flathead Lake, as it suggests that the cost of fishing licenses might be a factor to consider. Another noted drawback was that there were "no camp fires despite surrounding areas having them." This restriction could impact the traditional camping experience for those who enjoy campfires for cooking or ambiance. Lastly, the restroom facilities varied, with "toilets closest to sites pit" toilets, while there was "one nice flush bathroom/shower in the middle." This information is crucial for campers to know regarding the convenience and type of restroom facilities available at different locations within the campground.
Currently, the provided reviews do not include any specific promotional information for Big Arm Campground. The availability of unique accommodations like the Mission Yurt adds to its appeal. While the cost of fishing licenses and the restrictions on campfires are points to consider, along with the varying types of restroom facilities, the overall experience of privacy and natural beauty makes Big Arm Campground a highly recommended destination for those seeking a lakeside retreat in Montana. Oct 27, 2024 · J D (JD)Loved our stay in the Mission Yurt. Affordable and comfortable. Beds were even good! Beautiful location. Helpful camp hosts who made nightly rounds. Our friends had awesome site on water. Our kids swam for hours. One of the more private campgrounds. Only drawbacks were 1. Fishing licenses were very expensive. Bummer for my husband to not have the experience of fishing with my son since cost was so insane 2. No camp fires despite surrounding areas having them. 3. Toilets closest to sites are pit and there is one nice flush bathroom/shower in the middle.
Aug 11, 2024 · Angela RajnusAbsolutely beautiful. Great view, sun rise and sun set. The staff offer a bundle of fire wood for $6 and a bag of ice for $3 for those who run out. Showers available and restroom for natural campers. Definitely will be visiting again. And of course pets are welcome. Remember your dog leashes 😉
Jun 29, 2021 · Sha'TeriaAwesome campground right off the water and 10ish minutes from Polson. Good number of campsites but it didn't feel over crowded. Great access to Flathead Lake and good amenities on site as well.
May 12, 2024 · Josh DemersThe staff were just excellent. The Lake is stunning. You should be aware this campground is best for tent campers. Water is located down near the lake, often not in reach for RVs. Sites have limited parking, your camper takes it all, no room for your truck. $28 for non-Montanans, and showers cost $3 for 6 minutes. No dump station either. Great for tent campers!
