Big Silver Group Campground

Kyburz, CA 95720, USA

4.0
This is a single reservation group campsite for 50 people, 10 sites all with their own picnic tables and fire rings, three of the 10 sites are walk-in only but are river-side. In the center of the group campground is a single-stall vault toilet (door lock is broken - July 2018), a large bear-proof trash recepticle, and a group area with two BBQ pits, a large group fire ring, and four tables. There is room for 12 vehicles or four RVs and six vehicles. There is no running water, bear boxes, or electricity. The campground is right off busy Ice House Road that can be loud during the day but quiet at night. This campground is next to a stream with somewhat easy access to a 5' deep swimming hole (to the far left of the foot bridge). There are day visitors during the weekend that will walk through the campgrounds to get to the stream but we didn't see a single visitor pass through on the weekdays. If you keep the gate closed, no one will drive in, but they can walk in. It is a quick five minute drive to the pay showers at Fashoda Campground ($1 per minute and you pay with quarters) and there is a mom&pop store next to the ranger station about ten minutes away (south towards 50). There is black bass and brown trout in the reservoir, so bring your fishing gear (no fish in the stream, water level was too low). Also bring plenty of repellent for the biting flies. As a side note, we had no cellular service at this campground. - Michelle Benjamin

Big Silver Group Campground Introduce

For those organizing a large outdoor gathering and searching for a suitable "Camping Near Me" location, Big Silver Group Campground in Kyburz, CA, presents a compelling option. Situated within the picturesque landscapes of the Eldorado National Forest, this campground is specifically designed to accommodate groups, offering a blend of rustic charm and functional amenities for an authentic wilderness experience. Its strategic location off Ice House Road provides relatively easy access while still immersing campers in a natural setting.

The environment surrounding Big Silver Group Campground is characterized by its close proximity to a stream, which offers a refreshing swimming hole approximately five feet deep, accessible by a footbridge. While the stream's water level might be too low for fishing at times, the presence of the water feature adds to the natural appeal of the site. The campground is nestled amidst the diverse flora and fauna of the Eldorado National Forest, offering a rich natural backdrop for camping. Although it's situated off the somewhat busy Ice House Road, which can generate noise during the day, the evenings typically bring a tranquil quiet, allowing campers to fully appreciate the sounds of nature. As part of a forest environment, campers can expect abundant trees providing shade and a natural canopy. The presence of wildlife, including bears, is an important environmental consideration, necessitating proper food storage and waste management practices. The natural beauty of the region, with its potential for scenic views and opportunities for connecting with the outdoors, is a significant draw for groups seeking a "Camping Near Me" option that emphasizes nature immersion.

Big Silver Group Campground is tailored for group camping, providing services and facilities that accommodate up to 50 people across 10 individual sites. Each of these sites is equipped with its own picnic table and fire ring, allowing for individual camp setups within the larger group area. Three of these 10 sites are designated as walk-in only and are ideally situated river-side, offering a more secluded and scenic experience. At the heart of the group campground, communal facilities include a single-stall vault toilet (though it's noted that the door lock may be broken, so preparedness is key), a large bear-proof trash receptacle, and a dedicated group area. This central group area features two BBQ pits, a large group fire ring, and four additional tables, fostering a communal atmosphere for shared meals and gatherings. Parking is available for 12 vehicles or a combination of four RVs and six additional vehicles, providing flexibility for diverse group transportation needs. It is important to note that there is no running water, bear boxes (separate from the central bear-proof trash receptacle), or electricity at this campground, which emphasizes a more rustic camping experience. Campers are advised to bring their own water and be prepared for primitive toilet facilities. Despite these rustic elements, the availability of dedicated group amenities like the large fire ring and multiple picnic tables makes organizing group activities much simpler. The camp host is not mentioned, but the presence of basic amenities supports the concept of self-sufficient group camping. Furthermore, the availability of pay showers at Fashoda Campground, just a quick five-minute drive away, offers a convenient option for personal hygiene, and a mom-and-pop store near the ranger station about ten minutes away provides access to supplies.

The features of Big Silver Group Campground highlight its suitability for large gatherings seeking a "Camping Near Me" option with a focus on group cohesion and outdoor activities. The single-reservation nature of the campground ensures that your group has exclusive use of the entire site, enhancing privacy and facilitating group-specific activities. The presence of a nearby stream with a swimming hole is a distinct feature, offering a natural and refreshing way to cool off during warm days. While day visitors may walk through the campgrounds to access the stream on weekends, maintaining the gate closed can prevent vehicles from entering, preserving the group's space. The campground's location provides access to fishing opportunities in the nearby reservoir, where black bass and brown trout can be found, encouraging campers to bring their fishing gear. However, it's noted that the stream itself may not contain fish due to low water levels. The surrounding area offers "lots of activities around," though specific details are not provided beyond fishing and swimming. For those reliant on connectivity, it's important to note that there is no cellular service at this campground, promoting a true disconnect from digital distractions and fostering deeper engagement with the natural environment and fellow campers. The emphasis on a quiet atmosphere at night, despite the proximity to Ice House Road during the day, allows for peaceful evenings and clear views of the night sky.

For those utilizing "Camping Near Me" platforms, Big Silver Group Campground offers several compelling promotional points. Its primary appeal is its design as a dedicated group campsite capable of accommodating up to 50 people, making it an ideal choice for large family gatherings, organizational retreats, or youth group outings. The rustic nature of the campground, without running water or electricity, can be promoted as an authentic wilderness experience, appealing to those who prefer a more primitive camping style. The nearby stream and swimming hole are significant attractions that can be highlighted in promotional materials, particularly for summer bookings. The proximity to the reservoir for fishing, though not directly at the campground stream, is another strong selling point for outdoor enthusiasts. The relative seclusion of the campground, despite being off Ice House Road, is a valuable feature for groups seeking privacy and an escape from crowded public campgrounds. The lack of cell service can even be framed as a positive, encouraging a "digital detox" and fostering stronger interpersonal connections. The option for pay showers at a nearby campground and access to a local store adds convenience without compromising the rustic feel. Given its specialized nature as a group campground, promotional efforts would likely target event planners and group organizers, emphasizing the ease of booking a single site for a large party and the unique combination of amenities and natural features that facilitate a memorable group camping experience in the heart of the Eldorado National Forest.
