The air is often filled with the sweet, distinctive aroma of ponderosa pine. The campground is nestled on the picturesque shores of the 700-acre Ice House Reservoir, which spans at an elevation of 5,500 feet. This offers stunning mountain views and a scenic backdrop for camping. Some campsites are even right on the shoreline, while others are set back amidst the trees for shade and privacy. The overall atmosphere is clean and well-maintained, with spacious parking pads and plenty of room for camp gear at each site. This attention to detail contributes to a very pleasant and organized camping experience. It's important to note that the campground is located in bear country, a significant environmental factor, and campers are advised to use bear lockers for food and scented items to minimize human-wildlife interactions. While the campground does not typically offer full RV hookups (water, sewer, electric), it is suitable for RVs and trailers, with specific sites accommodating vehicles between 20 and 50 feet. RV-only sites may offer shared cooking areas with tables and grills. Campground hosts are frequently available and attentive, checking on campers upon arrival and being readily available for questions, which adds a valuable layer of support and security. Bear-resistant food lockers are provided at each site, a crucial service for safe food storage in this bear-active area. Firewood is often available for purchase from the host. Reservations are highly recommended, especially during the peak summer season, and can be made through Recreation.gov four days to six months in advance. Three accessible sites are available for persons with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity. Waste disposal facilities are also provided.
The features of Ice House Campground are extensive and cater to a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts. The primary feature is its direct access to the Ice House Reservoir, which offers abundant opportunities for water-based recreation. Guests can enjoy swimming in the "crystal-clear waters," fishing for stocked rainbow, brown, brook, and lake trout, and kokanee salmon. Boating is a popular activity, with a boat ramp on-site (no fee for launching, but a fee for parking applies), accommodating various watercraft from kayaks and paddleboards to jet skis. On land, the campground serves as a gateway to numerous trails. The Ice House Mountain Bike Trail offers 3.1 miles of scenic riding with views of the reservoir and Crystal Range. Hiking is also very popular, with nearby trails leading to attractions like Bassi Falls, a beautiful 1.2-mile hike to a 109-foot waterfall. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring with a grill top, facilitating outdoor cooking and campfires (when fire restrictions allow). The serene atmosphere, free from the "hustle and bustle" of more commercialized parks, is a key feature, making it ideal for those who want to "rest and relax." The recent renovations, noted in reviews, indicate improved facilities and overall campsite quality. The campground's location within the Eldorado National Forest also means campers are surrounded by a diverse ecosystem, offering opportunities for wildlife watching and enjoying the natural beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Single units accommodate one vehicle and up to six people, while double units allow two vehicles and up to twelve people, with additional fees for extra vehicles if the parking spur allows. Pet owners will appreciate that leashed pets are allowed on site.
Promotional information for Ice House Campground would highlight its prime location within the Eldorado National Forest on the shores of Ice House Reservoir, emphasizing the beautiful natural environment and stunning mountain views. The phrase "Fantastic Campground!" captures the enthusiastic sentiment of past visitors. It would be promoted as an ideal destination for those searching "Camping Near Me" who prioritize cleanliness, well-maintained sites, and a peaceful atmosphere. The range of recreational activities, including excellent fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, and mountain biking, would be central to its appeal. The recent renovations would be a key promotional point, assuring prospective campers of modern and comfortable facilities. The presence of attentive campground hosts and convenient amenities like clean vault toilets, potable water, and bear lockers would also be emphasized. A specific message about "Bear Aware" practices would be crucial for safety and responsible camping, educating visitors on proper food storage. The campground would be marketed as a perfect spot for both tent and RV campers seeking an immersive outdoor experience in the Sierra Nevada foothills, offering a blend of adventure and relaxation. The affordability and value, considering the quality of the environment and facilities, would also be a subtle but effective promotional element. Ultimately, Ice House Campground promotes itself as a well-managed, scenic, and activity-rich destination for anyone looking to connect with nature and enjoy a memorable camping trip in the Pollock Pines area of California.

Ice House Campground Reviews
I'm not sure how smart Google is at this point. I can't really rate the rooms and service at a campground. I AM the service, so, I'll give it 5 stars. We surely ate well. Neighbor campers left a cooler out, and a bear made a lot of noise getting into it. Anyway, use the bear lockers for food. Even the drip tray on my Blackstone was in the bearproof lockers. Beautiful campground, clean, host was available for questions.
Sep 19, 2024 · Byron ShawThis campground was fantastic! It seems like it was recently renovated. The campsites are well maintained with spacious parking pads and lots of room for camp gear. There are multiple pit toilets well located throughout the campground, so that no site is very far from a bathroom. The water spigots are similarly well distributed. The campground hosts were on it and checked on us right away upon pulling into our site. The lake has great mountain views and lots of room for recreation. I earnestly look forward to coming back.

Oct 02, 2024 · Jadmin SutoriusI’ve been going to icehouse with my family since I was 8 years old I am now 28 and bring my car 😂All in all it is well kept everywhere you go, they have places to fish, and swim. You can set off in a boat, and usually there are a lot of boats. The rangers are usually nice but they’re just aching to give you a ticket for whatever they can.Had one give my dad a ticket on the way back from a week long trip for a cracked windshield that happened while we were camping so I don’t see how we could have had it fixed before we had even left the forest.
