Black Bear Campground

Hamilton, MT 59840, USA

4.0
Secluded, rustic, and free campsite by Skalkaho Creek. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit. This campsite is first-come, first-served. We arrived here around 6:00 on a Friday night in June and plenty of spots were still available. The sites feel very private. There were groups staying at the sites on either side of us, but we barely heard them. My one complaint is that there’s only one vault toilet, so a lot of sites are far from the restroom. - Ana Alonso

Many reviewers highlight the secluded nature of the campsites, allowing you to feel connected to the outdoors without being crowded. Imagine setting up your camp next to Skalkaho Creek, with the soothing sounds of the water enhancing your experience. One of the notable features of Black Bear Campground is that it operates on a first-come, first-served basis. This adds an element of spontaneity to your camping plans. According to a recent visitor who arrived around 6:00 PM on a Friday in June, there were still plenty of spots available. This suggests that even during potentially busier times, you might still find a lovely spot to set up camp. The reviewer also mentioned the private feel of the sites, noting that despite other groups camping nearby, the separation between sites ensured a sense of peace and quiet.

However, like any natural campground, there are a few things to be aware of. One camper pointed out that there is only one vault toilet available, which might mean that some campsites are located quite a distance from the restroom. If having close proximity to facilities is a high priority for you, this is something to consider when choosing your site upon arrival.

Another piece of feedback, while less about the campground itself and more about the journey, mentioned concerns about the safety signage and an incident involving trees being set on fire along the way to Black Bear Campground. While this feedback doesn't directly reflect the campground's environment or services, it's a reminder to remain aware of your surroundings while traveling and camping in any natural area. It's always advisable to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

In summary, Black Bear Campground offers a free, rustic, and secluded camping experience alongside the picturesque Skalkaho Creek. Its first-come, first-served policy encourages spontaneous adventures, and the provision of picnic tables and fire pits at each site enhances the camping experience. The private nature of the campsites allows for a more intimate connection with the natural surroundings.
