Lake Como Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a tranquil and picturesque "camping near me" experience in the stunning landscapes of Montana, Lake Como Campground, located near Darby, MT 59829, USA, offers an idyllic retreat. Situated close to the beautiful Lake Como and surrounded by nature, this campground provides a wonderful setting for both RV and tent campers. With its clean facilities, access to recreational activities, and a peaceful atmosphere, Lake Como Campground is an excellent choice for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in the beauty of western Montana.
One of the most appealing aspects of Lake Como Campground is its proximity to the pristine Lake Como. As one reviewer aptly described, "What a pretty lake." This immediate access to the lake opens up a range of recreational opportunities for campers. Whether you enjoy swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply relaxing by the water's edge and taking in the scenic views, Lake Como offers a beautiful natural playground just steps from your campsite. The campground's location within walking distance of the lake is a significant draw for those who prioritize waterfront activities during their "camping near me" excursions.
The campground itself offers a variety of camping options, including RV spots with electric and water hookups. One reviewer who stayed in RV spot 1B for a night noted the "nice amount of space" available at the site, suggesting that campers can expect comfortable and well-proportioned areas for their setups. For RV travelers, the availability of partial hookups (electric and water) provides added convenience and comfort during their stay. The campground also seems to accommodate tent campers, although specific details about tent-only areas are not mentioned in the provided reviews. However, the overall positive feedback suggests a welcoming environment for all types of campers.
Beyond the individual campsites, Lake Como Campground boasts "great walking areas" and access to "lots of trails to explore." This makes it an ideal destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll around the campground or a more adventurous hike through the surrounding woods, the area offers ample opportunities to get out and explore the natural beauty of Montana. The presence of "very clean trailhead bathrooms" further enhances the experience for those venturing out on the trails, providing convenient and well-maintained facilities.
One reviewer specifically highlighted the experience of finding a spot at Lake Como Campground over the Fourth of July weekend after a negative experience at another nearby campground. They stayed in spot 6 and noted that it felt "like we were all by our selves," indicating a sense of privacy and seclusion within the campground. This is a significant plus for campers who value a peaceful and quiet environment. The reviewer also mentioned "large paved sites that required very little leveling efforts," which is particularly beneficial for RV owners, making setup quick and easy.
The hosts at Lake Como Campground also received high praise, being described as "wonderful." Positive interactions with campground staff can greatly enhance the overall camping experience, making guests feel welcome and well-cared for. The fact that the campground operates on a "FCFS" (first-come, first-served) basis for partial hookup sites at a rate of $25 per night is important information for local users planning a visit. This policy encourages spontaneity but also means that securing a spot, especially during peak season, might require arriving early.
A notable feature mentioned by one reviewer, which might be a significant draw for some and a consideration for others, is the lack of cell service at Lake Como Campground. The reviewer described "no cell service" as "a great plus for us!" This suggests that the campground offers a true escape from the digital world, allowing visitors to fully disconnect and immerse themselves in the natural surroundings. However, for those who need to stay connected, this lack of service is an important factor to consider. One reviewer mentioned using Starlink and experiencing obstructions but still being able to watch TV and take calls, indicating that satellite internet might be an option for some, although it's not a standard amenity provided by the campground itself.
The location of Lake Como Campground is also convenient, being "only 4 miles off hwy 93 and close to both Darby and Hamilton." This provides a balance of peaceful seclusion in nature with relatively easy access to nearby towns for supplies or exploration. Darby and Hamilton offer local amenities, shops, and potentially other attractions for visitors to explore during their stay at the campground.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the available reviews. However, the positive feedback regarding the clean facilities, beautiful lake access, spacious sites, and wonderful hosts serves as an implicit endorsement of the campground. The reasonable price of $25 per night for partial hookups, as mentioned by one reviewer, also suggests good value for the location and amenities offered. Local users looking for an affordable and enjoyable "camping near me" option in a scenic setting should definitely consider Lake Como Campground.
In conclusion, Lake Como Campground near Darby, Montana, offers a fantastic opportunity for local residents to enjoy a relaxing and nature-filled "camping near me" experience. Its picturesque location by Lake Como provides access to water activities and scenic beauty. The campground offers spacious RV sites with partial hookups and likely accommodates tent campers as well. With clean bathrooms, access to walking areas and hiking trails, and wonderful hosts, it provides a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The lack of cell service can be a bonus for those seeking a digital detox. Its convenient location just off Highway 93 and close to Darby and Hamilton offers a good balance of seclusion and accessibility. For a peaceful and scenic camping getaway in western Montana, Lake Como Campground is a highly recommended choice. Remember that partial hookup sites are first-come, first-served, so plan your arrival accordingly.

Lake Como Campground Reviews
What a pretty lake. We stayed in RV spot 1B for one night (electric and water). Nice amount of space. Great walking areas. Very clean bathrooms. We used our Starlink and had obstructions but we're able to watch TV and take calls.
Aug 11, 2024 · Michelle McClureAfter abruptly leaving Camp Sula in Sula MT due to their horrible host we were lucky enough to find a spot here 4th of July weekend! We were in spot 6 and felt like we were all by our selves. Great little campground with wonderful hosts. Partial hookups for $25 a night, FCFS. Large paved sites that required very little leveling efforts nestled in the woods. You can stay here for up to 7 days and it's within walking distance of the lake. Lots of trails to explore. Very clean trailhead bathrooms. We will definitely be back! No cell service which is a great plus for us! Only 4 miles off hwy 93 and close to both Darby and Hamilton.
Jul 08, 2024 · Jena CorriganBeautiful setting. Campsites are spacious with Ponderosa pines and bushes for privacy. Nice hiking trail around the lake. Camp hosts, Betty and Bill, are so very kind and helpful. Vault toilets clean and well maintained. Drinking water available. I planned to stay for only a few days but it's such a great spot I'll be staying the full 16 days allowed.
Jun 27, 2019 · Denise ZboznyGorgeous lake! We camped at the three frogs campground. Tons of trails and camping spots available. Convenient location to amenities. Clean vault toilets. We had a great time!
Jul 02, 2022 · Nicole EldredCamped here for 7 nights. We were lucky to score a site with water and electric. It's all non-reservable. Ten sites in a small loop. There's no dump station. We drove into town and paid at a private campground to dump tanks and take showers. There was zero internet with our Verizon service.Walking distance to the lake and beach. Many, many trails and gravel roads to explore in the area. Nice camp host. Loved it there.Three Frogs Campground is another loop of Lake Como that offers primitive camping, so it's an option if you can't get a serviced site.
