Burns Lake Campground Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience that immerses you in the natural beauty of South Florida? Burns Lake Campground, located at 18495 Burns Rd, Ochopee, FL 34141, USA, offers a clean and well-maintained environment for both tent and RV campers. Situated in the heart of Ochopee, potentially offering access to the unique ecosystems of the Everglades region, this campground provides an opportunity to experience the outdoors. However, based on recent customer reviews, it's important for local users to be aware of potential noise considerations related to RV generators and the level of darkness of the night skies.
As a listing in the "camping near me" category, Burns Lake Campground aims to provide a convenient outdoor lodging option for locals and visitors alike. The reviews highlight the cleanliness and overall beauty of the campground, suggesting a positive experience with the natural surroundings and maintenance. However, the feedback also raises important points about noise levels and light pollution that potential visitors should consider when planning their stay. This introduction aims to provide a balanced perspective on Burns Lake Campground for local users, incorporating both the positive aspects and the potential drawbacks mentioned by recent campers.
Our Environment: Beautiful Natural Setting, Proximity to Everglades
Burns Lake Campground is described by reviewers as "really beautiful" and offering a pleasant natural environment. Its location in Ochopee, Florida, suggests proximity to the vast and unique ecosystems of the Everglades. This could mean opportunities for wildlife viewing, exploring the distinctive flora and fauna of the region, and experiencing the tranquility of a natural South Florida landscape. Campers might expect to be surrounded by diverse plant life and potentially have access to waterways or trails characteristic of the Everglades area.
The cleanliness and well-maintained condition of the campground, as noted in a review ("it was clean and well-maintained"), contribute positively to the overall environment. This suggests that the management takes pride in keeping the grounds tidy and organized for the comfort and enjoyment of their guests. Local users seeking a clean and aesthetically pleasing natural setting for their camping trip might find Burns Lake Campground appealing in this regard.
However, one reviewer mentioned that the night skies are "not very dark" due to light pollution from Miami. This is an important consideration for local astronomy enthusiasts who might be seeking a dark sky location for stargazing. While the campground itself may be beautiful, the surrounding light conditions could impact the visibility of the night sky.
Services and Amenities: Cleanliness and Maintenance, Potential Noise Concerns
The reviews provide limited information about the specific services and amenities offered at Burns Lake Campground. However, the positive mention of cleanliness and being "well-maintained" suggests that basic facilities are likely in good condition. This could include restrooms, trash disposal, and possibly designated camping areas for both tents and RVs.
A significant concern raised by a reviewer is the lack of enforcement of quiet hours by the campground hosts. This resulted in guests being woken up by RV generators at midnight and again at 5:30 am on both nights of their stay. This is a crucial point for local users who value a peaceful night's sleep while camping. The reviewer suggested that RVs needing electricity might be better suited to campgrounds specifically designed for them, implying that the mix of RV and tent camping at Burns Lake Campground could lead to noise conflicts.
The availability of phone contact, both a local number ((239) 695-2000) and a mobile number (+1 239-695-2000), indicates that potential visitors can reach out directly to inquire about specific amenities, quiet hour policies, and any measures in place to mitigate noise from RV generators.
Key Features: Proximity to Nature, Potential for Mixed Camping Experiences
A key feature of Burns Lake Campground is its location in Ochopee, which likely provides access to the natural wonders of the Everglades region. This could be a major draw for local users interested in exploring this unique ecosystem. The cleanliness and maintenance of the campground also stand out as positive features, ensuring a comfortable and organized camping environment.
However, the potential for noise disturbances from RV generators, particularly during nighttime hours, is a significant factor that local users should consider. If you are a tent camper seeking a quiet and peaceful experience, it might be prudent to inquire about the campground's policies on generator use and the proximity of tent sites to RV areas.
For RV campers who rely on generators for power, Burns Lake Campground offers a location within the Everglades region. However, they should also be mindful of noise levels and considerate of tent campers who may be seeking a quieter environment.
The observation about light pollution affecting night sky darkness is another key feature for a specific group of local users – astronomers. If dark skies are a priority for your camping trip, Burns Lake Campground might not be the ideal location due to its proximity to the light dome of Miami.

The appeal of Burns Lake Campground for local users likely stems from its beautiful natural setting and its accessibility within South Florida. Why Consider Burns Lake Campground for Your Local Camping Needs?
If you are a local resident searching for "camping near me" in a beautiful natural setting near the Everglades, Burns Lake Campground offers a clean and well-maintained option. However, it is essential to be aware of the potential for noise from RV generators, especially during quiet hours, and the impact of light pollution on night sky visibility.
For tent campers prioritizing a quiet environment, it would be wise to inquire about the campground's policies on generator use and the separation of tent and RV camping areas. Burns Lake Campground Reviews
Campground hosts aren't enforcing quiet hours, woken up by RV generators at midnight then again at 530am both nights we stayed. RVs need to camp at Monument, just a couple miles to the east if they can't live without electricity, tents need someplace to enjoy without all that racket. RV and tent camping just aren't compatible.Other than the lack of sleep we enjoyed our stay, it was clean and well-maintained
Jan 03, 2025 · Nathan KlausIt is a really beautiful campground. Only downside and a warning to other astronomers, the night skies are actually not very dark. I went here to set up a telescope, and I was very disappointed how bright the sky was towards Miami.
Dec 11, 2024 · joshua schmitNice, simple Campground. The rv space is facing the wrong way, away from the water. Alligators do live in the lake. Not dog walking friendly.
Feb 13, 2025 · Tunde MonetVery quiet, not too crowded, hosts were helpful and friendly, didn’t see any gators or bears. The bugs got really bad right after sundown, but fortunately we had a screened in awning. What are you gonna do? That’s camping in the Everglades. Overall had a great experience.
Feb 18, 2024 · Kyle WoodruffI just drove by as I was braving Route 41, but this is an excellent primitive campground.Huge lake on the center, means fishing the entire day (and eating), plus wild forest all over, great for hunting. They have bear proof food storage, bathroom (no water or electric).Only thing that I didn't like so much is that all camp sites are in wild open areas, so you get the full power of Florida's sun on your tent.
