Immerse Yourself in the Everglades Environment
Trail Lakes Campground offers a unique setting within the vicinity of the Everglades, a vast and distinctive ecosystem characterized by sawgrass marshes, cypress swamps, and mangrove forests. While one reviewer noted that the proximity to Highway 41 might detract slightly from a completely secluded natural feel due to passing traffic, another guest described the location as "magical," highlighting the lush greenery during the day and the clarity of the starlit sky at night. The campground boasts a pond, which some campsites are located directly beside, offering picturesque views and opportunities for observing local wildlife. The environment is undoubtedly rich in biodiversity, and while one visitor experienced a significant presence of mosquitos (especially in late April, so be prepared with bug spray!), the overall atmosphere is one of being close to nature. The contrast in reviews suggests that the experience can vary depending on the specific campsite and the time of year. However, for those seeking "camping near me" with the intention of exploring the Everglades and its unique flora and fauna, Trail Lakes Campground places you right at the doorstep of this natural wonder.
Services and Amenities Offered
Based on the customer reviews, Trail Lakes Campground provides a range of services and amenities to enhance your camping experience. The campground offers various types of accommodations, including "Chickees," which are traditional Seminole-style open-sided structures with raised wooden platforms and thatched roofs. One review of Chickee #3 mentioned that it could sleep four, albeit with a somewhat challenging attic sleeping arrangement accessed by a steep ladder, and noted the absence of mosquito netting in the attic area. It's important to note that while the Chickee itself might not have electricity or water, the campsite it occupies does. Standard campsites with fire pits and picnic tables are also available, though one reviewer noted that these were located about 30 feet away from their Chickee. The campground features a bathhouse with separate men's and women's facilities. One review described the men's bathroom as "Ok" but pointed out issues with the shower floors and the presence of cobwebs and bugs, while also noting that the hot and cold water worked fine. This suggests that while basic facilities are provided, the level of cleanliness might be a concern for some visitors. On a more positive note, another reviewer mentioned a laundry room and a well-stocked camp store offering camping and survival essentials, as well as the availability of ice and water. These amenities contribute to a more comfortable and convenient "camping near me" experience, providing necessities and addressing practical needs during your stay.
Features and Unique Aspects
Trail Lakes Campground offers several features that make it a distinctive choice for "camping near me" in the Everglades region. The availability of Chickees provides a unique cultural and architectural element to the camping experience, offering a different kind of shelter compared to traditional tents or RVs. The presence of a pond adds to the scenic beauty of the campground and may attract local wildlife, providing opportunities for observation. The positive review highlighted the spaciousness of the sites and the considerate nature of fellow campers, suggesting a friendly and community-oriented atmosphere. The mention of a well-stocked camp store is a significant convenience, ensuring that campers have access to essential supplies without having to travel far. Furthermore, the campground's strategic location near various airboat tour operators, gator attractions, and hiking trails makes it an ideal base for exploring the surrounding Everglades ecosystem. The proximity to a "well-rated, little restaurant not far down the road" also offers a convenient dining option. The combination of unique accommodation types, on-site amenities, and its location near popular Everglades activities makes Trail Lakes Campground a compelling option for those seeking an immersive and adventurous "camping near me" experience.
Potential Considerations Based on Reviews
While many aspects of Trail Lakes Campground receive positive feedback, it's important to consider some points raised by reviewers. The proximity to Highway 41 might result in noise from passing vehicles, which could be a concern for light sleepers seeking complete tranquility. The review of Chickee #3 highlighted the challenging attic access and the lack of mosquito netting in that specific structure, suggesting that this particular accommodation might be better suited for certain types of travelers. The cleanliness of the bathhouse was also mentioned as an area for potential improvement. The prevalence of mosquitos, especially during certain times of the year (like late April), necessitates bringing adequate insect repellent. These points are crucial for potential visitors to consider when planning their "camping near me" trip to Trail Lakes Campground to ensure they are well-prepared and choose the accommodation and time of year that best suits their preferences.

Trail Lakes Campground Reviews
We stayed in Chickee #3. Sleeps 4 Only if you have one couple and two children who aren’t afraid to climb up a steep ladder sleep in “the attic”. There is little breeze and no mosquito netting up there. We were prepared not to have electricity nor water in the Chickee but the campsite it’s on has both. The fire pit and picnic table are 30 feet away to reduce fire risks. The men’s bathroom was Ok but the shower floors were pockmarked and the walls full of cobwebs and bugs. The hit/cold water was fine. I wouldn’t stay there again. I didn’t feel like I was in the Everglades. It’s too close to Rout 41 with cars and trucks speeding by all night long. Bring bug spray. The mosquitos are relentless. (Late April)
Apr 22, 2025 · Payson3This place is magical. We booked this place last minute on a whim and drove all the way from Texas. When we arrived, we were quickly checked in and there were enough spots to choose our site so we chose the spot right by the pond. It was gorgeous. In the daylight the plants are so lush and green, at night the stars are so clear. All of the sites are close to the bath house, but not so close that you can hear any noise. Our fellows campers were considerate and friendly as well as everyone we encountered that worked there. They have some cool attractions, a laundry room, lots of wildlife, a well stocked camp store with all kinds of camp/survival essentials- ice and water available as well. The location is close to a bunch of air boat tours, gator attractions, amazing trails and there’s even a well rated, little restaurant not far down the road. We stayed at a different campground following trail lakes and we can’t stop talking about how much we miss being here 😂10/10 and we will definitely be returning in the future and recommending to anyone planning a trip to Florida. Thank y’all for a wonderful home away from home.
Mar 09, 2025 · Mariah PesnellI don't like giving them a bad review but I think they earned this one. While camping there we has people playing music and partying un 3:00 in the morning. When we tried to contact someone in te office we got a recording. No one in the management of staff has a phone available after 9:00 pm to answer your call for just this type of situation. When I spoke to staff their answer was "well how would we know?". ITS YOUR JOB!!! We actually left early after complaining because we were worried about the repercussions of turning the people in. We did not believe the staff would do anything to these people if they destroyed our stuff. We felt unsafe afterthis and just left. We will more than likely NEVER camp here again. When we were leaving more people were telling them about it but yet, nothing was done. What a shame.
Feb 09, 2025 · David LibbyWe stayed in a tent for a week. We really enjoyed this place. Has coin laundry and a bathouse. Has a gate and keypad to get in and out. Located right on the Tamiami. I would definitely stay here again.
