Woodside Campground Introduce
For local users searching "Camping Near Me" within the picturesque Northern California landscape, Woodside Campground at Salt Point State Park in Jenner, CA, offers a unique and highly appealing option. Unlike its coastal counterparts in the park, Woodside provides a more secluded, forested experience, making it an excellent choice for those seeking tranquility amidst the towering trees. Located at 25050 CA-1, Jenner, CA 95450, USA, with direct inquiries possible at (707) 847-3221 or +1 707-847-3221, this campground promises a distinctive escape.
Environment:
Woodside Campground distinguishes itself from the coastal bluffs of Gerstle Campground by being situated on the inland side of Highway One within Salt Point State Park. This positioning places campers directly within a beautiful forest environment, characterized by various tree species, including redwood and Douglas fir. This setting offers a significantly different ambiance—one of greater shade, natural tranquility, and a deeper connection to the inland forest ecosystem. The reviews highlight this distinction, with one customer noting the "beautiful" campground with "open spaces for bigger groups or the quite and secluded areas for people that want peace and quite." This suggests a diverse layout within the campground, accommodating both those who prefer a more social setting and those who desire solitude.
While the ocean's presence is still felt through the cool coastal air and occasional fog, Woodside Campground provides a more sheltered environment from the direct coastal winds, making it potentially more comfortable for those sensitive to brisk ocean breezes. The rich forest floor offers opportunities for observing various plant life and perhaps some woodland creatures. The transition from the dense forest to the rugged coastline of Salt Point State Park is just a short journey, allowing campers to easily access both environments.
The general climate, typical of the Northern California coast, includes cool mornings and evenings, often with fog, which usually burns off by midday, revealing pleasant temperatures. The natural setting here encourages quiet contemplation and immersion in the sounds of the forest rather than the crashing waves, offering a truly peaceful retreat.
Services:
Woodside Campground offers developed campsites designed to accommodate both tents and recreational vehicles (RVs). As part of Salt Point State Park, it adheres to the park's standard services and regulations. While specific site counts for Woodside are not provided, it is understood to be a well-maintained facility with essential amenities for campers. These typically include:
- Picnic tables: Available at each campsite for outdoor dining and activities.
- Fire rings: Designated areas for campfires and cooking, promoting safe fire practices.
- Food lockers/boxes: Essential for secure food storage to prevent wildlife encounters.
- Water spigots: Access to potable water is available within the campground loops.
- Restroom facilities: Clean and regularly maintained vault or flush toilets are provided. It's important to note that, typical of many state park campgrounds, showers and full RV hook-ups (electrical, water, sewer) are generally not available directly at the campsites.
Reservations for Woodside Campground are highly recommended, especially during peak seasons (spring, summer, and fall weekends), and can be made up to six months in advance through ReserveCalifornia.com or by calling 1-800-444-7275. Given the popularity of Salt Point State Park, securing a reservation well in advance is advisable. Check-in time is generally 2:00 PM, and check-out is 12:00 PM.
One notable service, highlighted by a customer review, is the helpfulness of the staff. The review mentions "Checkin staff Inna saved me, by lending me some items to take the chill off, well done and thanks again!" and another states, "The staff here are always friendly and more than happy to help." This indicates a high level of customer service and a welcoming atmosphere, which significantly enhances the camping experience. This is a valuable aspect for "Camping Near Me" platforms, as positive staff interactions can greatly influence a camper's satisfaction.
Firewood is typically available for purchase within the park, usually from 4 PM to 7 PM, for a fee (e.g., $10 per bundle, with discounts for multiple bundles). As with all state parks, gathering downed wood is prohibited to preserve the natural ecosystem.
Features:
Woodside Campground's primary feature is its tranquil, secluded forest setting, offering a distinct alternative to the more exposed coastal campsites. This provides a sense of peace and quiet that is often sought by campers. Key features include:
- Forest Immersion: Being nestled in a forest, campers experience a different sensory environment—the scent of pines, the rustle of leaves, and the sounds of woodland birds. This makes it ideal for nature photography, quiet contemplation, and simply unwinding.
- Seclusion and Privacy: The campground's layout appears to offer both open areas for groups and more secluded spots for individual campers seeking greater privacy, as noted in the customer reviews. This flexibility caters to diverse camping preferences.
- Access to Park Trails: While inland, Woodside Campground provides direct access to the extensive network of hiking and equestrian trails within Salt Point State Park. These trails lead through various terrains, including forests, pygmy forests, and eventually connect to the dramatic coastal bluffs and beaches. This allows campers to explore both the forest and the coast with ease.
- Wildlife Observation: The forest environment increases opportunities for observing woodland wildlife, from various bird species to deer and smaller mammals, offering a different wildlife viewing experience compared to the coastal marine life.
- Pet-Friendly Policy: Dogs are permitted in the campground on a leash (no longer than six feet) and under adult supervision. They must be confined to a vehicle or tent at night. However, it's crucial for pet owners to remember that dogs are generally not allowed on trails or most beaches within Salt Point State Park, with a few exceptions like Blind Beach.
- Quiet Hours and Generator Use: To ensure a peaceful environment for all campers, quiet hours are typically enforced from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Generator use is usually restricted to specific hours, often between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
The ability to have "this awesome campground almost entirely to myself" as mentioned in one review, particularly during off-peak times, underscores its potential for truly peaceful and uncrowded experiences. While this might not always be the case, it speaks to the potential for seclusion.

Woodside Campground Reviews
Had this awesome campground almost entirely to myself a few weeks back. Unfortunately, forgot my sleeping bag, so it was kinda uncomfortable those 2 nights. Checkin staff Inna saved me, by lending me some items to take the chill off, well done and thanks again!
Nov 06, 2024 · D AI have never had the pleasure of camping here but I come here twice a week for service calls. The campground is beautiful. It has some open spaces for bigger groups or the quite and secluded areas for people that want peace and quite. The staff here are always friendly and more than happy to help.
Aug 28, 2024 · Casey MonahanWas a great camp area. Flush toilets, clean restrooms, campsites were large and private. Very close to beach area for hiking and picture taking
Oct 31, 2022 · Ken KendziorTL;DR-Beautiful Scenery-Smallish, close together campsites with picnic table, food box, and firepit-No Showers-Little to no cell coverage. This review is for the Upper Woodside Loop Campground, and campsite 108, which I camped in. (**Note: The California State Parks reservation website, does not provide a photo of campsite 108 for some reason, so the (2) photos of the campsite in this review are here for you to see.)--While campsite area is rather quite beautiful, most of the campsites, including 108, are rather quite narrow/compact and close together. Some of the sites have little to no sun exposure, so if it has rain recently the sites may be soggy - I noticed that some sites were blocked off due to this.-- **The bathroom facilities do not include showers** The bathrooms were clean enough for a campground. A communal hand washing sink is just out front from the bathrooms.--There are faucets for potable water sprinkled throughout the campground, and depending on where your site is, you may have to walk a bit to get to them. Faucets are attached to posts with tops painted like red mushrooms to make them easier to see.--Bundles of wood and kindling are available for purchase from camp host.--**There was no cell coverage throughout the campground.** The closest coverage for Verizon was at the middle parking lot at Gerstle Cove. AT&T's nearest coverage was in the Sea Ranch area.--While the campground area is very beautiful, I might only recommend the Upper Woodside sites for 2-3 people with small to medium tents, and after the weather has been dry and warm for at least a week.
Jun 03, 2019 · Daryl ShookWe camped at site #44. Campground was decently sized with fire pit and short walk to toilet. No showers, ok maintained bathroom. Site has great view of starry skies :)
