Camp Liahona Redwoods Introduce
For those actively seeking "Camping Near Me" in the picturesque Northern California region, Camp Liahona Redwoods stands out as an exceptional and unique destination. Situated at 27010 Skaggs Springs Rd, Annapolis, CA 95412, USA, this campground offers a truly immersive experience within the majestic redwood forests, providing a perfect blend of natural beauty, comfortable accommodations, and a range of engaging activities. While it serves as a youth camp primarily for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it also welcomes families and other groups for retreats and reunions during non-peak times, making its facilities accessible to a broader audience looking for an unforgettable outdoor adventure.
The environment at Camp Liahona Redwoods is its most compelling feature. Guests consistently rave about the "wonderful setting" and the breathtaking "scenery that can't be beat." Nestled deep within the ancient redwood and pine forests, the camp provides a profound sense of tranquility and connection to nature. The air is fresh, and the cool breezes, even in summer, contribute to a comfortable and restful sleep. The property spans 440 acres and straddles the Gualala River in Sonoma County, offering picturesque views and ample opportunities to explore. Reviewers speak of the ability to "retreat to the redwoods" and how the location feels "SO far removed from our daily lives and yet is only a few hours away," making it a perfect escape for recharging and recuperating. The presence of a 2,400-year-old redwood tree within the camp adds to the awe-inspiring natural beauty of the area.
Camp Liahona Redwoods provides a variety of services and features designed to enhance the camping experience. While it is a campground, it goes beyond basic tent sites by offering comfortable "cabins that are great and facilities that are great." These cabins, though described as "comfortable but basic," provide a more sheltered and convenient lodging option, typically equipped with bunk beds and storage shelves. They offer a "glamping" experience with real beds, running water, and showers, which is a significant upgrade from traditional camping for many. The camp also boasts a "main lodge" and a "spacious dining hall" with a large commercial kitchen, making it ideal for group gatherings and prepared meals. For those who enjoy cooking, the ability to have wonderful, home-cooked meals prepared by attending families is a unique highlight, offering a communal dining experience.
Beyond accommodation, the recreational services and features are abundant. Guests have enjoyed the "playing field," which is suitable for baseball, soccer, and general outdoor fun. The "swimming hole" on the Gualala River is a popular spot for cooling off and enjoying the water. Other activities mentioned include kayaking, canoeing, archery (guests need to bring their own equipment), horseshoe pitching, volleyball, and extensive hiking trails. The camp also features two amphitheaters, one with a small stage for skits and talent shows, fostering a sense of community and entertainment. There's even a craft shack with a pottery kick wheel for creative pursuits. The availability of campfires in approved campfire rings (subject to local fire marshal directives) adds to the quintessential camping experience. Attentive and helpful camp hosts are on hand to assist guests, further enhancing the welcoming atmosphere.
A distinctive feature of Camp Liahona Redwoods is its spiritual aspect, being owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While not mandatory for all guests, attending church services on Sunday mornings is an option, and some guests have found it to be a "sweet experience." The camp's primary mission for youth groups focuses on spiritual growth, service, skill-building, and appreciating God's creations, which subtly permeates the camp's overall ethos of respect and community. Rules regarding personal conduct, dress, and prohibited substances align with the Church's standards, contributing to a respectful and family-friendly environment.

Camp Liahona Redwoods Reviews
Amazing experience, cabins were great and facilities were great. The scenery can't be beat.
Jul 07, 2018 · Joshua ThayneWonderful setting and attentive, helpful camp hosts. We enjoyed the playing field, swimming hole, and having campfires. The cabins are comfortable but basic—bunk beds and storage shelves. If possible, attend church services on Sunday mornings!
Aug 31, 2021 · Paul JarvisIt a great location, incredible staff, awesome setup. Only issue I saw was there is a road curve on the main and only road out there that goes between some of the cabins and the rest of the camp. Which logging trucks and others go through fairly quickly so be extra careful with young kids as they cross since it could be very hard to see them. Also you will be in the mountains surrounded by trees so don't expect cell service or even frs/gmrs radio to go far. For me that's kind of the appeal. Nice swimming, canoeing and kayaking, rock climbing walls, etc. Plus power with heated cabins with full kitchens and running hot and cold water all over. So even away from it all your not ruffing it at all. We used it for a family reunion and it was amazing, especially for the price. It is an LDS camp site so no drinking, smoking, or bikinis, so that could be a downer for some.
Dec 31, 2017 · Peter StanleyIt is so good to hear that this camp still exists and carry’s on the spiritual enrichment tradition. As a YMCA camper starting in 1947 ( age 9 ) through 1955, I received my basic spiritual training and values in this beautiful location.
Jun 27, 2020 · James FlemingA very peaceful and serene place to go and become one with nature. Lots of trails to hike and a beautiful river to swim in during the summer. Beautiful cabins and lodges to rent for you family and groups activities.
