Beckley Parks & Recreation

401 Adair St, Beckley, WV 25801, USA

We stayed at the RV park to tour the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine, and I was a bit disappointed. We stayed 2 nights, and in that time saw no attendant at all. Our site was littered with trash and appeared that someone threw up near the picnic table, which was old and junky. The fire pit was just a ring of stones and was chuck full of ashes and cigarette butts. The restrooms were closed for COVID the sign said, but come on! Covids been over for two years. The little park office hadn't been used for months it seemed like by all the dead bugs on the desk inside and the daily checklist hadn't been updated since last October (this is May). The sites were paved though and the power and water were on and each site had a trash receptacle on it. Honestly, this is too nice of an RV park to let go like this, it needs daily maintenance and energy by someone who cares. Better signage is needed to get to the RV park, we had to have a stranger show us where it was. The entrance is challenging, but we saw a huge motor home do it. BTW- our site was LOADED with ticks, so be aware! - Matthewseven13

Beckley Parks & Recreation Introduce

For local users in and around Beckley, West Virginia, who are searching for "camping near me," Beckley Parks & Recreation, located at 401 Adair St, Beckley, WV 25801, USA, offers an RV park option that is conveniently situated for those interested in visiting local attractions such as the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and the coal train museum. You can contact them by phone at (304) 256-1747 or mobile phone at +1 304-256-1747 for inquiries. However, recent customer reviews present a mixed picture of the campground's current condition and accessibility, which potential visitors should carefully consider when planning their stay.

The environment of Beckley Parks & Recreation RV park is described as a "cool little spot behind the coal train museum," indicating a potentially interesting location with proximity to local heritage sites. The fact that the sites are paved is noted as a positive aspect, suggesting a level and stable surface for RVs. Additionally, the availability of power and water hookups at each site is a significant convenience for RV travelers. Each site also has a trash receptacle. These basic infrastructure elements suggest that the RV park has the potential to offer a comfortable stay. However, the negative feedback regarding the cleanliness of individual sites, with one reviewer noting litter and what appeared to be vomit near the picnic table, raises concerns about the current maintenance standards.

In terms of services and features, the reviews highlight both potential and current shortcomings. The restrooms were reportedly closed due to COVID-19, a situation that one reviewer found perplexing given the timeline. This lack of accessible restrooms would be a significant inconvenience for campers. The park office appeared to be unattended and unused for an extended period, further suggesting a lack of on-site management or regular maintenance. The fire pit at one site was described as a simple ring of stones filled with ashes and cigarette butts, indicating a lack of upkeep. On the positive side, the proximity to the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and the coal train museum could be considered a feature for those interested in these attractions, offering convenient access without extensive travel. However, the operational status and cleanliness of the campground itself seem to detract from this locational advantage.

One significant concern raised by multiple reviewers is the challenging entrance to the RV park, particularly for larger rigs and in adverse weather conditions or darkness. One reviewer with a 30ft toy hauler described the "vertical entrance road" as "miserable" in the dark, even requiring the use of 4x4 in a heavy-duty truck due to rain causing the tires to spin. This suggests that larger RVs, especially those over a certain length or weight, might find accessing the campground difficult and potentially hazardous, particularly in wet conditions. The reviewer recommended that larger rigs should consider the nearby National Park Service campground as an alternative. The need for a stranger to provide directions to the RV park also indicates a lack of adequate signage, which could lead to frustration upon arrival.

Another critical issue highlighted in a review is the heavy presence of ticks at the campsites. One reviewer explicitly warned to "be aware" as their site was "LOADED with ticks." This poses a significant health concern for campers and their pets, requiring them to take extra precautions such as using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and thoroughly checking for ticks after spending time outdoors. This environmental factor could deter potential visitors, especially during warmer months when ticks are most active.

The lack of an attendant during a two-night stay, as reported by one reviewer, further underscores the apparent lack of on-site management and maintenance. The overgrown grass and the absence of a mowed path to the bathhouse (even if closed) also point to a general state of neglect. The old and junky picnic table mentioned in one review adds to the impression of a facility that is not being adequately cared for.

Regarding promotional information, the provided reviews do not mention any current discounts or special offers for Beckley Parks & Recreation RV park. Given the concerns raised about the condition and maintenance of the campground, it would be prudent for potential visitors to inquire directly about the current rates, the operational status of amenities (especially restrooms), and any specific policies or warnings (such as the tick issue) before making a reservation. It is possible that the rates might not reflect the current state of the facilities, as suggested by one reviewer who felt they overpaid for the limited services and conditions encountered.

For local users searching for "camping near me" in Beckley, while the location of this RV park offers proximity to some attractions and the sites have paved surfaces and utility hookups, the significant concerns raised by recent reviews regarding maintenance, cleanliness, restroom availability, challenging access for larger RVs, and the presence of ticks cannot be ignored. Potential visitors should weigh these factors carefully against the convenience of the location. It would be advisable to contact Beckley Parks & Recreation directly to get the most current information on the status of amenities, maintenance efforts, and any advisories regarding access or environmental conditions.

In conclusion, Beckley Parks & Recreation RV park offers a location near local attractions with paved sites and utility hookups. However, recent feedback indicates significant issues with maintenance, cleanliness, restroom closures, difficult access for larger RVs, and a heavy tick presence. Local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of these potential drawbacks and are strongly encouraged to contact the park directly for the most up-to-date information before planning their stay. The discrepancy between the potential of the RV park and its current reported condition suggests that improvements in maintenance and management are needed to ensure a positive experience for visitors.
