Glade Creek Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a beautiful and nature-rich camping experience in the vicinity of Beaver, West Virginia, Glade Creek Campground, located on an Unnamed Road in Beaver, WV 25813, USA, offers an amazing and lovely option within the "camping near me" category. Praised for its abundant quiet nature and proximity to the river and the wonderful Falls Trail (likely referring to Glade Creek Trail and its waterfalls), this campground provides a fantastic setting for outdoor enthusiasts. The reviews highlight its large, established sites, the unique benefit of free camping on a first-come, first-served basis, and the availability of accessible facilities, making it an inclusive and attractive destination for a variety of campers.
The environment of Glade Creek Campground is consistently described as beautiful and rich with nature. Situated right next to the river, the campground offers fantastic views of the river from a beach area. The presence of plenty of mature trees provides ample shade and opportunities to hang a hammock for relaxation, as enjoyed by one reviewer. The campsites themselves are noted as being big and large, offering generous space for setting up camp. Additionally, there are flat spots available for tents, catering to those who prefer tent camping. The sound of the river can be heard from the entire campground, creating a soothing and immersive natural ambiance.
A significant and noteworthy feature of Glade Creek Campground is that camping is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. This eliminates the need for reservations and can be particularly appealing for spontaneous weekend getaways or for those who prefer a more flexible camping schedule. The first-come, first-served system, however, can also mean that the campground can get packed, as mentioned by one reviewer who experienced a full campground on their first night. Therefore, arriving early, especially on weekends or during peak seasons, is advisable to secure a desirable campsite.
Glade Creek Campground also caters to campers with accessibility needs. The campground offers proper facilities that meet accessibility requirements, including accessible parking, bathrooms, and campsites. This commitment to inclusivity ensures that more individuals can enjoy the natural beauty and camping experience offered at Glade Creek.
Each campsite at Glade Creek Campground is well-equipped with essential amenities for a comfortable stay. Reviewers mention that each site includes a fire ring for campfires and cooking, a grill for barbecuing, and a picnic table for outdoor dining and gathering. These provisions enhance the camping experience and make it easier for visitors to enjoy outdoor cooking and communal meals.
The layout of the campground offers different types of camping experiences. The drive-in spaces are noted to provide more privacy compared to the walk-in campsites. This is a valuable consideration for campers with different preferences for seclusion and convenience. Walk-in camping is also available, catering to those who might prefer a more secluded spot away from vehicles or who are backpacking and exploring the area.
The facilities at Glade Creek Campground include well-maintained bathrooms. One reviewer specifically mentioned that the bathrooms were kept in good condition, which is an important aspect of any campground experience. Clean and functional restrooms contribute significantly to the comfort and satisfaction of campers.
A major highlight of Glade Creek Campground's location is its proximity to the wonderful Glade Creek Trail and its waterfalls (referred to as "Falls Trail" by one reviewer). This offers campers easy access to scenic hiking opportunities right from the campground. The trail likely follows Glade Creek, leading to beautiful waterfalls and through the surrounding natural landscape. One reviewer mentioned that while the creek was super high and didn't look safe for swimming during their visit, the proximity to the trail was a significant positive aspect of the campground.
However, one notable drawback mentioned by a reviewer is the noise from trains during the night. The reviewer, a light sleeper, found the train noise to be significant and a detractor from an otherwise 5-star experience, leading to a 4-star rating. This is an important consideration for potential visitors, especially those who are sensitive to noise while sleeping. Bringing earplugs might be advisable for light sleepers.
Despite the train noise, the overall sentiment in the reviews is overwhelmingly positive, emphasizing the beauty of the location, the spacious campsites, the free camping aspect, the accessible facilities, and the proximity to natural attractions like the river and Glade Creek Trail. These factors make Glade Creek Campground a highly desirable option for local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize natural beauty, accessibility, and a more traditional, less structured camping experience.
As Glade Creek Campground operates on a free, first-come, first-served basis, there is no specific promotional information or need for booking in advance. However, the high popularity of the campground, as indicated by it being packed on one reviewer's first night, suggests that arriving early is the best strategy to secure a good campsite, especially during weekends and holidays. Local users should be aware of this and plan their arrival accordingly.

Its stunning natural environment along the river, the accessibility of the beautiful Glade Creek Trail and waterfalls, the spacious and well-equipped campsites, the inclusive accessible facilities, and the unique benefit of free, first-come, first-served camping make it a highly attractive destination. Sep 01, 2024 · Kimberly MoonThe campground is beautiful. Fantastic views of the river from the beach area. Each campsite is nice and includes a fire ring, grill, and a picnic table. Plenty of trees to hang a hammock (like we did) and flat spots for tents. The drive in spaces are great with more privacy than the walk in spaces. The bathrooms were well maintained. You can hear the river from the entire campground. 4☆ because of all the trains in the night, definitely not good for light sleepers, it was a lot of noise and because this campground seems to be very popular. The first night were were there it was packed. Loved that Glade Creek Trail is close by (although the creek was super high and didn't look safe for swimming while we were there).
Sep 01, 2021 · Alyssa SaldivarSites are first come first served. Dirt roads camp sites are ok roughing it. Class B and tear drops or tents. Hiking trails or bikes close by. River is within a stones throw. Fishing kayak rafting ! Some beautiful hiking 🥾
Mar 08, 2024 · Randy Kunath. AfterAnotherAdventureAbsolutely fabulous trail. The trail was not crowded on an April weekend even with a great weather. Google map gives the correct direction and other apps not that reliable. When on route 41, watch out for NPS’s Glade Creek sign just before the bridge that crosses New River. Continue on gravel road for six miles and there will be a single car only wooden bridge. The parking lot at the trailhead is large. The campground has restroom facilities. Make sure to trek to Kates falls, through a little spur off the main trail. We want to visit in summer and enjoy the swimming holes on the creek. There were a few nice camping sites on the trail. Ideal for spending an entire day and enjoy the awesome scenery.
Apr 03, 2022 · Sundaram DoraiThis is not quite up to the quality of most National Park Campgrounds yet. I appreciate the primitive sites, and this one has much to value, such as access to a wide and slow moving New River. The sites are fine, and the new pit toilets are clean. The site is remote, and without a campground host, I wasn’t completely sure about safety / security. And there is a train across the river that passes through regularly, no horn but lots of rumbling. It woke me several times in the evenings.
