Situated within a stunning national forest, this campground provides opportunities for fishing, hunting, and RV camping. You can reach them at (936) 344-6205 or +1 936-344-6205 for inquiries and reservations.
The environment surrounding Cagle Recreation Area is a major draw for nature enthusiasts. Being nestled within a national forest signifies a setting rich in natural beauty, likely featuring abundant trees, diverse wildlife, and a tranquil atmosphere. One recent visitor enthusiastically described it as "so beautiful here in the national forest," highlighting the scenic appeal of the location. This environment provides a perfect backdrop for a variety of outdoor activities and offers a peaceful retreat from the urban hustle and bustle for local Houston and surrounding area residents.
One of the standout features of Cagle Recreation Area, as mentioned by a satisfied camper, is the access to both fishing and hunting. This makes it an ideal destination for local users who enjoy these outdoor pursuits. The proximity to a national forest often implies well-maintained areas for these activities, subject to state and federal regulations. Anglers and hunters in the region will appreciate having a conveniently located campground that caters to their interests, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in their hobbies within a beautiful natural setting.
For those who prefer the comforts of RV camping, Cagle Recreation Area appears to be well-equipped. A recent review mentioned that "all the rv camping areas have sewer hookups." This is a significant amenity for RV travelers, offering convenience and ease of waste management during their stay. It's worth noting that the same reviewer mentioned the absence of a dump station, suggesting that while sewer hookups are available at individual RV sites, a separate station for dumping tanks might not be present. This is valuable information for local RV owners planning a trip to Cagle Recreation Area.
The overall sentiment from at least one reviewer is overwhelmingly positive, stating, "We absolutely loved this campsite! It will be a place we come back to." This strong recommendation speaks volumes about the positive experiences many visitors have had at Cagle Recreation Area. The desire for a return visit indicates a high level of satisfaction with the campground's environment, amenities, and overall experience.
However, it's important to also consider a less positive experience shared by another visitor. This review highlights a potential issue with the enforcement of parking rules by a specific camp host. The guest, who was staying for a fishing tournament and had visited the campground in previous years without incident, reported being asked to disconnect their boat or truck despite not being on the grass or blocking any campsite. They also noted inconsistencies in how parking rules were enforced throughout the park. While this seems to be an isolated incident related to a particular staff member, it's something for potential visitors to be aware of. It also underscores the importance of clear and consistent communication regarding campground rules.
Despite the parking concern raised in one review, the positive aspects of Cagle Recreation Area, such as its beautiful location in the national forest, opportunities for fishing and hunting, and the availability of sewer hookups for RVs, make it an attractive option for local users seeking a "camping near me" experience. The strong positive feedback regarding the campsite itself suggests that the natural beauty and overall facilities are highly appreciated by visitors.
For local families, a campsite located within a national forest often provides opportunities for various outdoor activities beyond fishing and hunting, such as hiking, nature walks, and wildlife viewing. The generally positive tone of the reviews suggests that Cagle Recreation Area could be a great place for families to connect with nature and enjoy quality time together in a scenic setting. The mention of returning visitors further reinforces the idea that this campground offers a consistently enjoyable experience for many.
In conclusion, Cagle Recreation Area near New Waverly, TX, offers local users a chance to immerse themselves in the beauty of a national forest with opportunities for fishing, hunting, and comfortable RV camping with sewer hookups. While one review highlighted a concern regarding parking rule enforcement, the overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the location and overall campsite experience suggests that Cagle Recreation Area is a worthwhile destination for those seeking a "camping near me" getaway in a natural and scenic environment. Calling the provided phone numbers might be beneficial for local users to inquire about specific site details, availability, and any current regulations or guidelines to ensure a smooth and enjoyable camping trip.

Cagle Recreation Area Reviews
(1 star gor Lee the camp host/ 5 star for Cagle recreation area) 3rd year staying at Cagle for a fishing tournament and never had any issues until our last stay. We had reservations for Tuesday-Monday (6 nights). When we arrived, we were greeted by a park host named Jesse. He was very friendly and a retired veteran like myself. We talked for a bit, and then he allowed us to finish getting settled in. On Thursday, a park host named Lee drove by and told me that I had to disconnect and leave either my truck or boat in that spot. He said I couldn't have both or I would get a ticket for not being in the lines. I didn't understand, I was not on the grass, nor was I blocking any camp site (first two pics). We had the same camp site and equipment we had in the previous years and there were never any problems. I explained to him that I did not want to park my boat or truck near the boat ramp because it was out of site and had no outlets to charge the boat or proper security. Either way, I followed Lee's orders and did what he asked in fear of getting a ticket or asked to leave. During the rest of our stay, I walked around the park more than a few times, and there were several other boats and cars parked outside the lines (photos attached). I also watched Mr. Lee drive his golf cart around the park and never had them disconnect or threaten them with being ticketed. Truly didn't understand why he was only having an issue with me. No adjacent site had an issue with my parking as many others had the same truck and boat connections. On the last night, our campsite neighbors decided to leave their campsite early and said we could park there overnight. So I stayed connected and parked my truck and boat on their site since it was still reserved. Park Host Lee got mad and said I can't do that. If it wasn't for the other Park Host named Jesse, Lee would have had me disconnected again. I think Park Host Lee needs to use a little more common sense and help accommodate campers that travel with boats instead of harassing them. Or at least be fair with everyone, not just who he wanted to be fair with.
Mar 17, 2025 · Keoni Del RioWe absolutely loved this campsite! It will be a place we come back to.I wish we would have known all the rv camping areas have sewer hookups and don't have a bump station. O well, that's something we will remember next time.We loved being able to fish or hunt. It's so beautiful here in the national forest.
Oct 08, 2024 · Anna RBeautiful, clean park. Dog and I enjoyed the nice hiking trails. There is a lot of space between campsites, but the one we were on had a slight side to side slope. We were able to level, but the last step of the camper was a big one. If we are ever through the area again, I'd definitely stay here.

May 05, 2024 · Giana YKCamping trip Feb 19 thru 22, easy check in to site 47....food level site,20x20x tent pad also was used on this trip. Excellent kept shower/bathrooms. Camp host Lee, is very nice and attentive in upkeep of campground. We were almost directly across from restrooms area. Highly recommend site 47 in Sycamore loop. This is a full hook site...dumpsters are across the road not too far from restrooms. We enjoy the quiet and scenic views of this campground.
