Sunstrip Campground Introduce
For local residents of Oregon seeking "camping near me" along the scenic Clackamas River, Sunstrip Campground, located on Clackamas Hwy in Eagle Creek, OR 97022, USA, presents a riverside option with some appealing features, although it also has certain drawbacks that potential visitors should consider. Based on recent customer reviews, Sunstrip Campground offers direct access to the river and some pleasant campsites, but it also experiences issues with noise, cleanliness, and basic amenities.
The environment of Sunstrip Campground is characterized by its proximity to the Clackamas River. Reviewers consistently mention the easy river access, with one specifically noting that site #4 has particularly good light, open space, and direct river access, making it ideal for enjoying the waterfront and observing wildlife. The allure of camping right next to the river is significant, offering opportunities for relaxation by the water, potential fishing, and enjoying the natural sounds of the flowing river (though this might be somewhat offset by highway noise).
However, a major environmental drawback highlighted by both reviewers is the significant noise pollution from the adjacent highway. The campground is located "right next to the road" (Clackamas Hwy), and the noise is reported to persist "all night long," severely impacting the tranquility of the camping experience. This lack of a privacy buffer from the highway is a considerable downside for those seeking a peaceful natural retreat.
Another environmental concern raised by a reviewer is the cleanliness of the grounds, with a complaint of "lots of trash all around." This suggests a potential issue with site maintenance or visitor responsibility regarding waste disposal, which could detract from the overall enjoyment of the natural setting.
In terms of services and features, the information from the reviews indicates basic amenities. Restrooms are described as a "chest toilet" which one reviewer found to be less than satisfactory, stating they had seen cleaner outhouses. The water source is mentioned as an "old water pump," suggesting a potentially rustic or less reliable water supply. Potential campers might want to inquire about the functionality and potability of this water source before relying on it.
One reviewer noted that fire pits were not open during their stay due to a fire warning, which is a common safety precaution during dry conditions. However, the unavailability of fire pits can impact the camping experience for those who enjoy campfires for cooking or ambiance. It's advisable for potential visitors to check the current fire restrictions before their visit.
Despite these drawbacks, one reviewer mentioned that the spot they rented was "nice," and the general proximity of all spots to the river is a notable feature. The open space and light at some sites, like #4, can also be appealing. The campground is described as a "little place to stay," suggesting a smaller, perhaps more intimate setting compared to larger campgrounds.
Promotional aspects of Sunstrip Campground could focus on its direct river access and the potential for enjoying the Clackamas River. Highlighting specific sites like #4 with good light and open space could attract certain campers. The smaller size of the campground might appeal to those seeking a less crowded environment. Additionally, its location along the Clackamas River could be promoted for its scenic beauty and potential for river-based activities (though the noise might need to be acknowledged). If the campground is pet-friendly, this could also be a promotional point for local users traveling with animals.
However, any promotion would need to be balanced with the significant drawbacks mentioned in the reviews. The persistent highway noise, the reported lack of cleanliness on the grounds, and the basic and potentially unhygienic restroom facilities are crucial pieces of information for potential visitors. The reliance on an "old water pump" and the potential unavailability of fire pits due to fire warnings are also factors that could influence a camper's decision.
One reviewer concluded that while their stay was enjoyable enough to consider returning (albeit with a reservation about the fire pit), they also noted that "there are better campgrounds along the Clackamas river." This suggests that local users exploring the "camping near me" category in this area have other options that might offer a more peaceful, cleaner, and better-equipped camping experience.
In conclusion, Sunstrip Campground near Eagle Creek, Oregon, offers the appealing feature of direct access to the Clackamas River and some pleasant, open campsites. However, local users considering this campground should be prepared for significant highway noise that persists throughout the night, potential cleanliness issues on the grounds, and basic, possibly subpar, restroom facilities with an old water pump. The availability of fire pits may also be restricted due to fire warnings. While the riverside location has its charms, potential campers should weigh these pros and cons carefully and consider exploring other campgrounds along the Clackamas River that might offer a more comfortable and tranquil experience. Checking recent reviews and possibly contacting the campground directly for current conditions and policies would be advisable before making a reservation.

Sunstrip Campground Reviews
Stayed in site #4, which, to me has the best light, open space & river access. I enjoyed sitting by the river, watching for wild life. Drawbacks.. no privacy or buffer from highway noise, it goes all night long. Wish the grounds were cleaner (lots of trash all around). Otherwise an enjoyable little place to stay, but there are better campgrounds along the Clackamas river.
Aug 19, 2018 · T FranklinThe spot we rented was nice, they didn't have the fire pits open cause of fire warning. All spots are next to the river they are also right next to the road. During the day it noisy cause of cars, after 8pm it quiets down. They have chest toilet (i seen cleaner outhouses) and old water pump. I enjoyed my time there, they would get one more star if we where allowed to use fire pit.

May 20, 2019 · Kaurine BassettPros:- Small campground, not very much noise from other campers.- Large sites.- Easy river access, many sites have open view of the river.Cons:- Could be better cleaned. We noticed random trash around the campground.- No privacy between spaces 5 & 6, our tents were maybe 50 feet apart.-Lots of highway noise!
