Hideaway Lake Campground Introduce
Are you a local user searching for "camping near me" near Estacada, Oregon? Consider Hideaway Lake Campground, located in Estacada, OR 97023, USA. You can reach them at (503) 630-6861 or their mobile number, +1 503-630-6861. Based on recent reviews, Hideaway Lake offers a beautiful lakeside setting, but it's important for potential visitors to be aware of the current operational status and limited amenities.
The environment of Hideaway Lake Campground is centered around a "lovely little lake," which is a significant attraction. One reviewer described the lake as beautiful. The campground is situated in a natural setting that many campers likely find appealing for its tranquility and scenic beauty. The presence of a lake suggests opportunities for lakeside relaxation, and possibly some water-related activities, although these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews. For local users who appreciate camping near water and in a potentially secluded environment, Hideaway Lake could be an interesting option.
Regarding services, the reviews indicate that the campground is currently considered closed by the Forest Service due to a lack of maintenance funding. This has direct implications for the available amenities. For example, one reviewer noted that the "bathroom is closed," and another mentioned that the "bathrooms were locked." This suggests that restroom facilities are not currently operational. Additionally, another review pointed out "zero cell reception," which is something to consider for those who rely on mobile communication. While one review mentioned that some great spots in the campground are still available for use, it's crucial to understand that essential services might be limited or unavailable.
The operational status also affects the reservation system. As mentioned in one review, due to the Forest Service's designation of the site as closed, "no reservations right now, just first come first served." This means that if you plan to camp here, you will need to arrive early to secure a spot. One reviewer recommended arriving early in the day to ensure finding a site, although they also noted that at least one spot remained open throughout the weekend they were there. This first-come, first-served system is a key feature to be aware of.
One significant drawback mentioned by a reviewer was the intense mosquito presence ("Mosquitoes were crazy"), which caused their children to stay inside their tent. This suggests that insect repellent would be essential if you plan to camp at Hideaway Lake, especially during certain times of the year. Another concerning incident reported was that "some guys in trucks came through and shot targets with guns and then left" on the second night of one reviewer's stay. While this might have been an isolated event, it's something to be aware of, highlighting a potential lack of oversight given the site's closure status.
Despite these issues, the allure of the "beautiful lake" remains a key feature. The availability of some "great spots" for camping, even with the limited services, might appeal to more self-sufficient campers who are comfortable with primitive conditions. The lack of cell reception could also be seen as a feature for those wanting a complete disconnect from technology and a more immersive nature experience.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided. However, the mention of a "lovely little lake" and "great spots" still being available could be seen as an implicit invitation to those seeking a lakeside camping experience, provided they are prepared for the current lack of maintenance and amenities. The first-come, first-served nature might also appeal to spontaneous campers who don't want to be tied to reservations.
For local users looking for "camping near me" and drawn to a lakeside setting, Hideaway Lake Campground offers this. However, it is critical to understand that the campground is currently considered closed by the Forest Service due to lack of maintenance funding. This means that amenities like bathrooms are likely unavailable, and you should be prepared for a more primitive camping experience. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so early arrival is recommended. Be aware of potential issues like mosquitoes and the lack of cell reception. If you are comfortable with these conditions and are primarily seeking the beauty of the lake and available camping spots, Hideaway Lake might still be a viable option. It would be wise to call the provided phone number to get the most up-to-date information on the campground's status and any potential changes.

Sep 06, 2023 · Sean GallagherBeautiful lake, but messed up my Subaru bad getting there. Mosquitoes were crazy so the kids stayed in tent. On the second night some guys in trucks came through and shot targets with guns and then left. Zero cell reception. Oh, and the bathrooms were locked.

Aug 11, 2020 · BethAmazing secluded campground. This is a sweet spot to relax and hangout for a couple days. Big crawdads in the lake. You can fish, kayak, and canoe. Sites are close to the lake. The pit toilet was very clean when we there last July.
Jun 15, 2020 · Venture XGreat campground. A little spendy at $19 a night for such a remote area, so I knocked a star for it. That said, the site is well maintained and the pit toilet was not too bad and was clean. Not even one bite from out of the lake. We did land a nice brown up at Shellrock however. Great trails. Skeeters weren't horrible, only two bites from two and a half days and two nights of camping and fishing. Lots of yellow jackets though. No trash receptacles, so you have to pack it out. Plan accordingly. Lots of awesome old growth trees. The place is truly beautiful. The roads to get rough in places due to the log trucks, so take that in to account. I'd go back.
